  • my child has sever autism. he cant not talk or ever live any type of an indapendant life. he will always need the aid of an adult. i'm angry because there is research indicating vaccines are the cause. the polings sued and recieved money for their daughters AUTISM!!! ok if the shots were NOT THE CAUSE then why did they WIN THEIR SUIT????

  • my name is leif i have autism and i love it and i do not need a cure

  • the definition of autism is faulty. Not autism is a problem but ppl who cant accept it,

    Thus the hysteria.

  • @iwin4u2 No, our brains are not damaged, they are just different. How do you explain people like Leonardo Da Vinci having signs of AS??? I don't think there were cellphones in the Renaissance. As well, the rise in autism cases is actually a rise in DIAGNOSED cases!!! AS only became an official diagnosis in 1994, and there wasn't always a distinction between high and low functioning autism - most cases that were diagnosed were only the most obvious, low functioning cases.

  • (at the lady in the video) You don't give a f*** about the kids and what they have to say, you clearly only care about the parents who think of their kids as a burden. You will never eliminate us because we are different, the Catholic church already tried that and failed. WE will fight YOU!!!

  • @aabv63 Amen to that!!! I'm an Aspie and I'm proud!!!!! I don't want to change, I love myself for who I am and I'm not ashamed of that!!! You sound like an amazing mother, keep up the good work!!! :) Your son must love you very much! I am 18 too, by the way!!!

  • Hey Heaton...you want politics out? what if stem cell research could help? What a complete FRAUD.

  • @CodexAlimentarius you may say i got no life but gah!! I seen you in alot of popular autisic vid!!! i mean really stop trying to convence people that toxins are the cause! and Zeolite powder will help cause it doesnt work for every autisic!! so stop spamming this all over videos about autism!!!

  • Autism is not an illness... it does not need to b cured. It is a way of thinking that needs to be accepted and understood by our society

  • @IndieB3 very well said :)

  • Amazing how much she cares about something that directly affects her. As soon as she got political, I can't stand her.

  • THERE IS NO CURE FOR AUTISM - IT IS A BEHAVIOURAL CONDITION !!! I have a form of autism called aspergeous syndrome and I've benefited more by people who understand my condition, who taught me how to behave then any drug could have !! And Austim is well understood because over here in the UK we actually focus on helping kids with austim without medical treatment and you know what.... IT FUCKING WORKS !!!!!

  • @Cyberpit2000 what do you think of the childhood vaccination program? All that aluminium, formaldehyde, mercury etc. Many doctors think this is the cause of autism. Injecting new borns with such chemicals seems dangerous to me, i aint no doctor but i have never been afraid to think for myself. I don't think these vaccines are worth the risk.

  • @Cyberpit2000 excatly i agree i also have AS and over my life i have learnt it adapt into society better. It's pointless looking for a cure for autism because it will never be cured

  • @Cyberpit2000 same with me xx

  • Mercury poisoning can be reversed with zeolite powder and cilantro. Yes they hurt your children with vaccines on purpose and the corporations are making billions on it.

  • actually aspie my son who has Autism life is at stake because part of his Autism his refusing to eat anything solid he has not ate a solid food in almost three years. Unless he gets a gastric feeding tube which his insurance will not cover he is going to starve to death. Research a lot more before u respond.

  • @sammieboi910 Get some cilantro and blend it into a paste and give him 2 tablespoons a day, it chelates mercury and will help his gut. Also don't give him tap water which has fluoride. Get spring water, also order some zeolite powder. But the cilantro will give you positive results within a week.

  • I had Autism.

  • bless her for doing that

  • Autism isn't a disease, it's not something to be fixed, it's to be embraced for what it is - only then will we begin to understand that we are judging a person based on, what we consider to be 'physical/verbal/listening abnormalities'. When really, all is happening is the person is communicating in a non standard fashion. Also check the diet and environment the person is being exposed to on a daily basis, these factors can have a huge impact on their mind/physical state.

  • @bradles1980

People with high functioning autism don't need to be cured. They are special unique individuals that live normal lives. The treatment should be more focused on people with low functioning autism. Like children that can't speak, can't tie their shows or brush their own teeth.

Treatment is need like yesterday for autistic children that can't sit still for more than 3 minutes.

  • @SexyMina07

You are very right on the fact that high functioning autism doesn't need to be cured. But the fact is, no sort of autism needs to be cured, not even low functioning, it just needs to be understood. Same situation with ADD, ADHD and Bipolar, it only needs to be understood, not cured. These children/adults vibrate at a higher level than others, that's why they don't act/think the same way alot of us do - they've come into this world with an evolved level of thinking/being.

  • Fight? Did I hear FIGHT? Getting rid of autism is like getting rid of the taliban, it'll never happen.

  • i loved ELR

    watch my videos

  • I love how people are calling her names just because she doesn't know everything about Autism.

    You people have problems seriously.

Yeah she doesn't know everything about it but for instance Dalektaliban do you know the deffinition of a whore? Obviously not.

    X's

  • the diff between a whore and someone with autism is that either you can recogize a whore, unless he/she doesnt want you to

    autism cant be hidden

ohyeah and being a whore oftenly is a choice (other options usually are available, whether theyre liked or not) autism though isnt a choice

as such its much worse to advertise knowing about autism, then it is to use the word whore as a curse word

  • Can I justask why the heck you have wrote all of this to me?

I know what the difference between the two are.

    I'm not dumb.

I just don't get why people are calling her a whore is all.

Is there something wrong in that/

    X's

  • ah, maybe i misunderstood youre intensions im sorry

the reason she can be yelled at is because she influences public opinion (by appearing on national telly) in a negative way for autistics

to be perfectly honoust, all autistics want is for people to open up to us and hear what we have to say, but thanks to women like her, it gets harder and harder (as if its not hard enough for us allready)

  • that stupid whore doesnt know what autism is. humanity is always afraid of that which it doesnt understand, with anything the slightest bit different grounded into the dirt.

  • parents have been recovering and helping there kids with the same techniques Jenny has used for at least 17 years if not longer.

  • No one has said that the GFCF diet doesn't help. It might for some bowl problems. Many General Practictioners do prescribe diet and proper exercise for many health problems. However, that is not enough for neurological disorders. That is where psychology gets involved. This is because they know that some alternatives are effective but are simply against quack medicine.

  • yea, thats because so many people could tell

its why i got help at such an early age (im nearly 24)

in case you didnt notice: that was sarcasm and youre comments just a load of bull

  • guys you need to lay off abit shes trying to help! she may not know everything about autism but at the end of the day she is only trying to help!!!

  • stop using your cell phone when you are pregnant. case solved

  • What happens when a cure is proven not to exist?

What then, in the near future, surely?

  • "We need to get politics out of the way here because there are people's lives at stake."

No, we need to get celebrities to shut up about crap they don't know about.

  • Our lives are at stake in the sense that if our children keep increasing in numbers with health issues, our future is in trouble. Autism thought process is intelligent, but if they are too sick to contribute to society then where does that leave us?

  • Its not increasing...they are just opening the door on so many who have never been diagnosed...

  • Our lives are not at stake..the numbers are not increasing.. The diagnosis or the recognition of people with autism is more prolific than before. .that is all. The sky is NOT falling LOL ..My family is filled iwth auties and aspies and no one came knocking on our door to recognize our aspie/autiedom for centuries.... I am the only one in my family who went to get an official acknowledgement of my aspergers..others just don't care to do it...

  • Ok- go educate yourself before you speak- no one cares to hear how stupid you can be.

  • Rita grow up. This is the problem is we have incredibly uneducated and immature NTs ...You cannot speak for others... you only represent yourself.

  • We need more people like her to spread the word and if we all work together we can help this issue.

  • oh brother. first why do you want to declare war on autistic are scared. ohh scary autistic they are going take over the world oh no! wh must them. that just stupid! stop being so negative about this condition! it not going to kill you or infect you.

  • Comment removed

  • People lives are not at stake Patricia, quit dramatizing.

  • lol i didnt notice that " Peoples lives at stake " BS 3 of my relatives have autism there not in hospital, there just gonna be dependent on other people for the rest of there lives.

  • That's why celebrities should not be spokespersons for serious issues; they want publicity.

  • I totally agree. Aspie 101... So glad to meet a reasonable well thinking person.. This has been an issue I have been speaking on quite a bit lately. They are prostituting Autism for their own needs.

  • There is treatment for that.

  • Yes there is treatment for those that can afford it. Many can not afford healthy foods or thousand dollar therapy. ABA alone cost 30,000 per year if not more. Drugs dont work for many and they come with other bad side effects. Patricia is right. Future life is "at stake"

  • Not all drugs come with a lot of negative side effects. And autism doesn't kill anyone the way that AIDS or Cancer does. People's lives are not at stake. Autistic symptoms do not include problems in the digestive system, or seizures.

  • They do include seizures for many children. My son used to have seizures on a regular basis. Problems do include the digestive system. Its called leaky gut syndrome. If your digestive tract is so screwed up it leads to auto immune disease. My mother died from it.

  • Still, those are not autistic symptoms. Auto Immune Disease and Leaky Gut Syndrome are not ASDs.

  • My AS fiance has leaky gut proven by allergy testing. His symptoms are increased agitation, memory issues, anxiety, sleep problems. When he eats autism diets his gut heals decreasing those negative symptoms. They dont all go away. It just helps him function better.

  • Digestive problems are common even among neurotypicals.

  • YEs this is true. So what exactly are you saying? Are you denying something here?

  • I am simply saying that the digestive problems are not a major issue in the autisn debate.

  • Nts have seizures too... Those are all comorbids and not only to Autism... Many NTS have the same digestive tract ..its not ASD only.... Learn the facts

  • I know the facts of my child. I spent thousands on tests to prove his internal issues. Im not wanting his autism gone. I want him happy and healthy and comfortable. SO I know my facts of my child. many parents share the same experience.

  • That's good. I do believe that autistic individuals are exploited by zealots. There are some truly disgusting people that promote dangerous untested treatments such as chemical castration of autistic children.

  • i TOTALLY agree aspie... many are exploiting aspies and auties including their parents.. many mothers are suffering from Munchausen Syndrome by proxy. and many are not educated enough to know when it is an autistic trait and when its a co morbid...

  • People like Jenny McCarthy are a perfect example. The GFCF diet helped Evan's intestinal problems and Jenny believes that it cured autism. She never had to do any real work. Autism should never be a cover story for People magazine or newspaper tabloids. Also, autistics should never be exploited for someone to profit off of it. Many people don't see the bright side of autism.

  • Digestive tract problems are found in all people NT and Auties... Many parents are ignorant. I am an Aspie...so was my mom uncle, couple of aunts , cousins, grandmother etc. No one is saying your child does not have co morbids but its not a part of autism.

  • @aspie101 She may mean people's lives as in the quality of thier lives because people dont understand them :)

  • PMSL@Yetti0!! That's what I thought too.

  • People like her really do this crap because their agent told them that they will be rich and famous once again. Don't trust them.

  • Aspie 101 just like the moron Paris Hilton who when trying to get out of jail, said she would volunteer to help needy children... what a joke.. Celebs have no crebility..Hollywood is a very poor example of an educated group. As my favorite Aspie once said.. "Strip the phoney tinsel off Holleywood and you find the real tinsel" Oscar Levant.

  • Celebrities are only out for publicity. "There are people's lives at stake." drama. Autistics are not dying from autism and can succeed in society if that's what she meant. I think that society promotes the stupidity of celebrities. What's worse; we take up after them.

  • you are the morion.

  • Combat autism? Are you declaring war on us aspies like Einstein, Bill Gates, Spielberg, George Harrison, John Lennon, Emilly Dickenson, Thomas Jefferson, etc? OMG...get real... should we get into military garb? Who are these misguided uneducated Neurotypicals?

  • Harrison AND Lennon? I hadn't been aware they were possibly aspie...Where did you see this?

  • i have aspergers, i am sceptical that all those people you mentioned have aspergers

  • I like Patricia Heaton. Thanks for this video. I made one about a family friend too. If you guys have a second, please check out autismrising-com

  • It IS the vaccinations, but dental "amalgams" are severely poisonous and more so following vaccination poisoning... resulting in any of a dozen or so bogus diagnoses and more vile drugs... URL mercuryxxpoisoned.

  • Good actress! good acting!

  • Actually some parents are useless, mine was... Try spreading awareness with your cash, understanding, patience. Oh and buy a box of tissues.

  • cure it how????? Seriously!!

  • autism = the future

    watch?v=aJZ4ZWSpOqY

  • autism cannot be fought

  • nevermind that, you don't need to answer. Don't mistake my position, those are my opinions of what I think would be best for autistic people and other alike.

  • it's true.

by the way, she 's got a very sexy neck :)

  • autism does not need a cure...the cure is ingorance...

    duh...

i'm autistic...and it does not need to be cured [genetically]

but i am all for therapy and coaching

  • speak for yourself. Not everyone wants to live with autism

  • I have autism, my comments are as good as yours budy. It is wasted money because there will be no cure for having a different way of thinking. Having autism does not make us unable to do great things in life. We just need to get the tools and work hard like everyone else. We are all different, there is no normal way of thinking or seeing the world. I don't feel ashamed to share my views, I have a right to express myself like anyone else.People like you have good intentions, but don't know autism

  • Having aspergers is NOT nearly as debilitating as moderate to severe autism. My son lives everyday his life disabled by moderate borderline severe autism, so dont tell me I dont know autism! I have spent the past year fighting the school system because they have failed to provide a fair and appropriate education for my son. He came home with bruises , services were not delivered when they were supposed etc etc. So NO we are not overeacting, you never will have to face the disadvantages my son

  • ...does. You can voice your opinions and He cant, He's not hopeless but He does need all the resources and educational help he can get. When people who supposedly have autism state things as you do it's its upsetting because you are supposed to understand the struggle but obviously dont

  • Our school system is broken, because it lacks fundings it could use to improve. You say you are fighting against the school system to help your child when my point is by helping our school system you help your child and many. Life is not easy even for a normal person. It takes alot more work for someone with a disability. Would you put billions on people to find a cure that most likely will never be or actually help the schools get funding so they can help your child overcome his difficulties.

  • @Galadhur I have to speak for my daughter who can not speak. I'm sure that she doesn't want to be like this. And if it takes the last breath I have, I will find a way to get her better. Autism DOES NEED A CURE. Ignorance is the ppl that are preventing me from helping her.

  • I Have Autism myself and find it difficult to communicate with others.

  • It must hurt so bad to be an autistic person and hear all of this about how their unique way of thinking is a disease that needs to be cured. If you replace the word "Autism" with "white people" or "females" and listen to rethink some of these statements..it's so dehumanizing for those who live it every day. Think about it "Defeat females now"! We are sending out a message that Autism is wrong and needs to be fixed or cured rather than accepting and embracing it!

  • They're always against stem cells until they need them.

  • i'm glad to see patricia heaton voicing out her concerns for a cause. Like it or not, we could all learn something from her. She always amazes me.

  • The 'Combatting Autism Act' is, in my opinion, the worst bill ever passed in the United States. Look, I'm all for helping Autistics, but how about we try and help those with Autism and their families in the here and now instead of gambling on a cure that may not even exist?

  • A better idea then that bill would be to instead pass a bill that everyone should have access to the same help in schools just like the disabled. Everybody wins & it's money well spent. There is & will be no cure for a way of thinking. The best that can be done is give the tools to those who needs them. The parents are overeacting & try to show off that they are good struggling parents helping hopeless children. They don't get what is autism & that money should rather be spent to education.

  • I agree.

  • You obviously have no clue about what your talking about! Ignorant comments like yours are better kept to themselves!

  • well, atleast she cares! lay off! i have a daughter w/ autism and i don't believe you should take embryos and hack them up for research! there are many ways to help autistic children, besides killing unborn children. aren't they valued the same?

  • What is wrong with this chick? i just saw her in an anti-stem cell advert. does she have a real identity? i guess that's why they are called "Actors".

  • Let me get this straight, she wants to fight for a cure for autism, but she doesn't endorse stem cell research. Stupid bitch.

  • She is one of those parents who are over reacting/afraid and think they understand but actually don't. Keep politics out of the way and waste billions. Notice that everybody says the same thing when autism becomes the subject "autism is a disability that is not well understood"... our way of thinking is considered a disability, can't you accept we may be normal? Things are going out of control, you people are afraid of our different personality/intellect, and in the end we all lose. Life is hard

  • how right you are

  • i've read more than 4 books on autism so far. i'm sure that there are some autistics that can't go about normal life without physically feeling bombarded by a lot of their symptoms that distract them... my philosophy is help the person in their daily life as well as help them with the bigger problems too. little problems won't leave (bullies) unless the bigger ones are paid attention to as well (autism)

  • once the medical field knows more about the causes of some of the common problems that *do* interfere with the life of an autisic person, then they need to tell therapists & MD's a way to combat those areas to help them... i'm sure people with sensory integration problems just love not knowing if their feet are on the ground or where objects are in space in relation to them. some people *do* need help/aid for their more 'hindering' problems

  • omg,you guys act like autism is a disease or a disorder when infact its not,its a good thing,we are a very intellegent people and demand the same respect as a normal person would.

  • autism doesn't need a cure, it needs to be understood. I've read many articles on the advanced intelligence and abilities of autistic people, but i'm sure there's more to it than that. Instead of raising funds to stop something for fear of the unknown, first understand what it is that you're fighting.

  • i like her too. autism is on the rise (either being diagnosed more or happening more in kids) and it needs a cure/answer/or an aid in some way.

  • It is diagnosed more because it is more known (still not enough), so it is not clear if there is more cases with autism or if more of those affected are diagnosed. In past and even now people are misdiagnosed. I have autism and I don't need cure, thank you. I would prefer little bit more understanding and tolerance. Instead of treating autistics like if they were ill, the woman in video could fight for correct support and against bullying. It would help more.

  • I am in the middle of reading "understanding the nature of autism and asperger's disorder" by Edward R. Ritvo MD along with "The boy who loved windows" by Patricia Stacey. The first one is completely medical. The 2nd one is a biography sorta about her trying to help her son with sensory integration problems starting round 6 to 9 months old! I know more than you think, and understand more every day from my reading

  • i agree there's little known. that's why i did a speech (one that was too long) in my speech class teaching people a little about it, and urging them to learn more to know the signs to better diagnose and quickly get help.

  • Wow I like her

  • I feel like I can't have a normal romantic relationship even though I don't seem like I have autism. I feel like it stands in the way of pretty much everything I want, and even though I'm a hard worker, I can't seem to do well in college as a result.

I'd like to start a blog with a group of people on Blogger, so if anybody's interested, let me know, because maybe we can change some people's minds.

  • it's the symptoms of autism that get in the way of everyday life, and pckozub - your problem is exactly what i'm talking about. a lot of cures/answers could probably at least help everyone (both those with & without autism) understand how to make those problems easier, or to work around it, or combat it head on and not let it get in the way. it's a good thing you started that Blog to help people!! :)

  • sometimes when i think in marriage or even working i feel so sad ... i think the case i'm living is so strange

i hate even work with people .. i prefer to stay alone even i eat alone

and i wanna be normal i wish i can recover ..amen amen amen

  • autism its awful ..thing makes you isolate from the envirement

im 21 years old annm i'm still infected..somtimes i feel strange ..and i think killing myself..i i recover ..amen

  • Autism can be an large advantage while it can also be a huge disadvantage. I picked up a book and randomly started reading one day before I was even in school, and I learned guitar with ease. However, you do have those odd, repetitive rituals to deal with and are amazingly self-conscious.

  • and yours couldnt be more disorderly lol

  • Ok, autism isn't the same as retardation!!

  • everyone knows him he's they guy that pervs on the kids in the park and your mums a prostitute waiting for guys to come and finger her in the ass whilst other guy fuck her mouth

  • go fuck yer dad up the arse im sure he's no stranger to bein bummed

  • judging by your videos, i think you are the one that has issues

  • To greglocka:

There is a saying I love:

"Your attitude is my child's disability"

I believe this suits your attitude just right.

  • gregjockca, seems to me you are waist of space. Go find something productive to do. You JACKASS!!!

  • Everyone hwo's commented negatively on this page is fuckin' disturbed and twisted!!!! like you for instance gregjocka who the fuck would put autistic childeren into ovens and say that they should be slaughtered?! o.0 dumbass OR even say they're a "drain of resources" with ease like you must've done because IF you DID have a hard time then those comments WOULDN't be here faggot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry to ruin your evening but, I actually have a social life and will be logging off now. One FINAL lesson for you, pathetic one...

Capitalizing a letter is NOT considered "punctuation". HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that is a sentance ending in punctuation!

    Bye!

  • To gregjockca (aka- Jeffrey Dahmer)

"everyone can tell that their autistic retards"......

Here is a grammar lesson for you.... they're = they are...NOT their!

Ha! look who is the "dummy" after all!

  • I REALLY hope that u r NOT 31 y/o (as ur profile indicates) u sorry, pathetic boy! I'm guessing that ur mommy & daddy did not hold u enough when u were a baby & now u r taking it out on the rest of the world! I bet that the highlight of ur day is checking to see what comments people leave u. It's ok though (future Jeffrey Dahmer) I'll pray for u; meanwhile keep hiding behind ur computer with ur "anonymous" screenname making idiotic remarks. u poor excuse for a human being.

  • I hope you know how big a moron you just demonstrated yourself to be to everyone. I have an autistic child, and I'll tell you there's nothing worse than seeing other children pick on him because he doesn't act like they do. That's something you need to think about you little brat.

  • ... no, I don't know where you heard that, but about 70% of autistics are high functioning, meaning we can take care of ourselves, and we make up a sizable part of the genius's in this world, heck, it's been theorized that likes of Einstein, Newton, and Thomas Jefferson were autistic.

We think differently then the average person, and may be because of that difference that many scientific breathrough were discovered.

  • you evil fucking idiot

  • Look whatever, I do have mild autism, and I'm sure some people might see that as a "retardation". The thing I'm trying to say is that it's really not as shit as you think. I know loads of people with autism and none of them need support assistants, adult daipers or whatever the fuck else you've been saying. It really isn't at all that bad of a syndrome.

  • I've just noticed that... now I'm pissed off. All people think about autism is the bad things, it's fucking terrible. All I can say at least is that I've got autism and I'm not "suffering" at all, and neither are most autistic children and teens.

  • I concur with everything you just stated.

  • oooooOOOOOooooo...

  • @ gregjockca

Like I've said before it's only the minority of autistic people that are "damaged". You clearly know nothing so come back when you have a good argument and you know, the slightest possibility of convincing anyone other than a bnp psychopath.

  • this is to 'gregjockca', how dare you be so rude. Im a therapist that works with austistic children and people like you are the ones that need help. What you think it comes easy to them and their families.

To everyone, understanding autism is one thing but if you have no idea learn before you speak. There beautiful and are people like you and me at the end of the day with exception of needing guidance to grow in a world with such ignorant people who only judge.

  • That is digusting! People dont get autism just like that instead of being so rude people with autistic kids go through pain and people with autism dont understand why people like you are so mean. so do us all a favour and jump in front of a car :)

  • Wow.

  • I can't beleive how many of you fuckin people have not the slightest understanding of how autism is a gift in ways. This gifted friend of mine knows just about every street in toronto. He also remember's all the peoples names he talked to in high school and when there birthday is.I could go on for a long fuckin time about how smart my bud justin is but your all just gonna stick with your fucked up bullshit conception.God bless the autistic people,it's a true gift for most who have it.

  • I guess gregjockca ran out of intelligent things to say and if stupidity was a reason to abort a baby, you wouldn't have been born!!!

  • The comments on your profile do you great justice.

  • Grodanz,

Thank you for your time to write and encouragement in uplifting my soul. It's great friends like you who make life better.

YES, we may have disabilities and difficulties but that does NOT make us less than others.

    Stay strong my friend.

We shall over come all odds.

    Regards,

    Gerrie

  • I was also struck by the wording here... Fighting Autism is fighting the person that has it. We can't cure Autism, and attempts to do so are futile. Stop wasting money on it and use it to help the people who have it instead.

Patricia doesn't really seem to care much for the people who have it - This is about her, no one else.

  • I hate to differ, but if your autism was caused by mercury poisoning, then you can be treated.

  • Mercury poisoning does not bring Autism. As simple as that. The symptoms are not the same, and research has shown no indications that they are in any way related.

  • I don't think so.....Accepting our kids has nothing to do with it. My son is with me not in an institution. What it has to do with is the fact that as millions of other parents, I am mad as hell for the damage done to my baby!!

  • Well, believe what you want, but know this: "This hypothesis is controversial, as much evidence suggests that about 90% of autism is explained by genetics. The hypothesis has not been confirmed by reliable studies."

In other words, it's pure speculation.

  • Damage? You cant go back, your child has autism and you should be thinking positive ways in which you can help him grow. I am a therapist working in a university in helping children with autism and the results are amazing. Austism will never go but you can help them with them selves in a positive manner.

  • Why do I want to be cured? i have extremely mild autism, why cure it?

  • I thought you were gay.

    And you still are.

  • I have written books through my son's eyes to help other kids understand Autism. See our video. Troy's Amazing Universe

  • As an ABA therapist and the mother of a child with autism I'd like to thank Patricia Heaton for her voice. These kids (and adults) need all the help and support they can possibly get.

  • My brother and I don't want to be fought against. we are autistic. We would rather be fought for, helped and advocated. We are who we are and want to be embraced.

  • I don't like to think of it as "Fighting Autism". I want to think of it as "Fighting for People with Autism". I am borderline, and I don't want to be fought. My brother is Kanner's autistc, and I don't want him to be fought. why do we want to fight autism? Shouldn't we accept it and embrace the differences?

  • Patricia Heaton is not only an actress, she is a human being. People show emotion when they care about something. For sigendymion to make a crack about that is wrong. In my opinion her reaction shows that she understands how hard it can be for parents. As a mom to three boys on the autism spectrum, I appreciate that immensely!

  • I appreciate the struggles that parents face with kids on the spectrum - not relating to your kids the way you had thought you would can be frightening, especially when experts say autism is a devastating disorder. It's not the kids' faults, nor the parents'.

Since it isn't anyone's "fault" that there are miscommunications (whcih lead to tantrums), autistics would be much better served by understanding of the differences than "curing" autism. Then there would be far less disability aspect.

  • Heh this is an example of one of the advantages of autism: not breaking into tears over a sentimental subject.

She needs to stay focused in a public announcement.

  • Thank you so very much for your help Patricia in helping make more people aware of Autism. Without people like you that really care and are not trying to further their career by speaking about something they could care less about...speaks volumes! Hope it will make a difference!

  • WETAWD!!!!

  • i dont think that autism should be cured because the kids with autism are the most wonderful and beautiful and those kids are the smartest kids ever, i wouldn't be who i am today without those kids in my life...and all my heart goes out to those extremely strong parents whose children have autism, you are the strength of this world...i love you!!

  • Oh how sweet...because autistic kids are sweet and loving, they should not be "cured" in your opinion. My son is autistic - he will never drive, live on his own, get married, or have a normal life, and I will worry terribly about him until the day I die - and beyond, if possible. But hey, because he is sooo sweet and loving, I just would not have it any other way. YOU SOUND ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

  • i do understand your point of view. but autistic kids are the most beautiful kids in this world. just take a minute to listen to what autistic kids have to say, they say the sweetest things and ask autistic people if they really want to change, most will say no, they just want to be understood, not normal.

  • There are some on the spectrum who have the ability to say,"I do not want to change". Fine. stay as you are, you know what is best for you. My child can't talk, can only communicate basic needs through PECS. So I don't think they can speak for my child.

  • Yep. My son is VERY loving - but that does not mean I don't want a different life for him, and he probably would too, if he was aware of the differences and could choose. People just don't get it, and if they don't have autistic children themselves, they should probably keep quiet.

  • Have you seen Amanda Baggs' YouTube videos? She significantly changed my perspectives. I am HFA and anti-cure, but I used to think a cure for LFA people would be a good thing. Ms. Baggs cannot talk, but she writes well (often better than I do) and communicates through an electronic device. She is anti-cure. While I am anti-cure, this does not mean that I'm against all therapies. I am in speech therapy myself, as I am significantly impaired in this area.

  • AuRatio is an example of the grand diversity within our spectrum. We are not diseased! We are just different.
