  • Check your facts... The orchestral version was completed by the end of 1960. Barber in 1961 wrote the transcription for flute and piano in 1961.

  • Yes, the fingering from minute 4:11 through 6:17 , and the subtlety of expression, are superb. Anny has understood perfectly, in my view, what Sam wanted us to hear. This work is not just a technical masterpiece, but a deeply emotional statement which only the very best pianists are able to capture. Also. the orchestra never overrides the piano in this recording. Great music. Great playing.

  • i like this movement a lot, but of course it has the advantage of being quite tonal. based on an elegy for flute and piano barber wrote earlier for an amateur flutist, i wonder how it compares to that, there doesn't seem to be a recoding on youtube, the score probably wasn't published.

  • too heavy!!!! at the 4-5 min mark. It's my favorite part ;)

  • @gnuoyfj I agree a little too heavy for my taste at that point. But still masterful overall!

  • Many thanks for your uploarding! It is a rare recording and very nice music. The next movement is so a big contrast with this!
