This work is not just a technical masterpiece, but a deeply emotional statement which only the very best pianists are able to capture. Also. the orchestra never overrides the piano in this recording. Great music. Great playing.
i like this movement a lot, but of course it has the advantage of being quite tonal. based on an elegy for flute and piano barber wrote earlier for an amateur flutist, i wonder how it compares to that, there doesn't seem to be a recoding on youtube, the score probably wasn't published.
Check your facts... The orchestral version was completed by the end of 1960. Barber in 1961 wrote the transcription for flute and piano in 1961.
