I know how "important" her work is, but I still don't get it and I still don't like it . . . and NONE of the menswear fits me at all--not made for big American bodies
Yes, there is a genetic basis to body types, and vast geographic distances usually separates gene pools to some extent. Yamamoto doesn't fit either.
But besides that I think Comme is unflattering on people generally. The saleswomen at the shops just don't look good, the clothes are so fanciful and impractical they make them look like demented little girls.
Well I dont' think the intellectual Japanese labels are for you then. Go back to wearing Armani and Chanel. Comme des Garcons is reserved for the privilged selected few.
Exqueeze me but I have a closet full of Margiela and Westwood and Richmond and Bikkembergs and McQueen and Wong, etc., not necessarily clothes for the general public either. Just because I don't like or can't fit into Kawakubo or Yamamoto doesn't mean my tastes are mainstream or that I don't appreciate or wear thoughtful designs. I just don't understand Kawakubo worship.
i guess some people like it ugly

Honestly I find her work, and she herself, totally frightening. But maybe that's a good thing.
