I was lucky enough to attend a workshop that rajaton did near where I live it was amazing.this is a beautiful song and anyone who doesn't think so either doesn't know good music or was crying so much because of the song that they missed the like button
The late great flute player Frankie Kennedy with Altan was the first to put these two tunes together in this way. Only the first tune, a slow air, is actually called Dobbin's Flowery Vale. There are lyrics to it--it's a traditional Irish song from County Armagh. The second tune is a reel played at a slow tempo that's known by several names, including Eddie Moloney's Favorite and The Drogheda Lasses. I hope Rajaton gives Altan credit for the arrangement.
I listened to this song in Vocal class because we were detirming and picking out notes and stuf like that. The first time I heard it, it just sounds so beautiful. I always forget that theres no instruments, because the guys just do the bass so well.
Everytime I hear it, I get chills, like right now.
This is one of the most beautiful things i have ever heard; their voices are just incredible, beautiful! Just listening to the beautiful music gives me chills! :)
This song sounds really familiar but I can't place it. Almost everyone I know agrees with me but no one knows where they might have heard it. Does anyone know?
imagine this: 0:00 a woman walks into a grave yard bring a flower for her lost love. she sing in her man's grave up to 1:58. then the heaven opens at 2:00 to 2:07. after that she see her man climbing down from the sky. at 2:08 the man sing(with the angels) to comfort his love. then at 2:55 the lady said the she can't live w/o the man but at 3:14 they hug and sing together. but at 3:45 it's time for the man to leave. while she is singing he said:" don't worry" at 3:50. then dey say goodby @ 4:02
I sang with Rajaton in May. I came home and found this song. All I could say after for 3 hours was, Oh My Gosh. My parents thought I needed to go to the doctor from shock or something. This is the most amazing talent anyone in music history could have. Mesmerizing. Absolutely mesmerizing.
This song is beautiful in the way the serifs on calligraphy are beautiful - simple and expressive, yet soulful and nuanced by the pure humanity of it. It's so silky and elegant . . . mind blown.
@Escape126 I was gonna yell at you for the stupidness of that, but ehh, DMT is actually the best of choices for drugs so whatever. Sill not all too smart though.
last month i sang with rajaton...they were amazing! i will never forget that! one day i will look back on that day and realize that i really can do anything
I absolutely love rajaton and this song and butterfly have to be my favorites we are singing this song in choir I am so excited, we're also singing unwishing well and butterfly its freaking epic
@bibsa1 :O You get to do a workshop with Rajaton?! UNFAIR! I absolutely would love to. I'm performing Butterfly on sunday night. How did you manage to arrange that?
I know! I'm not exactly sure how they [our conductor and the choral association] arranged it, but I know that we're extremely lucky to get to work with such talented performers. Butterfly is an AMAZING song. It's probably my favourite.
I can still remember the first time I heard this song. At 2:04 when all of their voices open to this beautiful harmonious crescendo, and then at 2:09 when a smooth, milky male voice takes the lead. I was stunned and mesmerized. Absolutely amazing.
Did you see them - wern't they fantastic I got the first tickets to their show I was in The idea of Norths concert when they announced it but the ticket place was closed so i went on my iphone and got the first tickets. i had tears coming down listening to this live as it was just so perfect.
Yes! They were awesome! I was at that same concert of Idea of North when they announced it. I missed out on those tickets. But they brought more out for a Monday night show. I was there for their very last performance here =D
This piece is just unbelievable. The way it starts as a small beauty, eartouching bliss and evolves and grows into mindblowing wall of sound made out of pleasure.
Love this! Way to go, Rajaton! Proud they are from Finland!
This sounds like an adaptation of the instrumental version recorded by Altan, with the flute of Frankie Kennedy. That's why it does not sound like the common folk versions (as lorgain2 commented.) But I like this idea, especially that they sung without words. I do not think they overused or abused anything, as long as there were proper credits to the authors of this arrangement on their own CD. I really enjoyed this, anyway, more than usual non-Irish performances of Irish music...
Our audition choir at school did this song last year! Usually on here, when I mention them, its to say that we did it better...however, no matter how good it sounded when we did it, Rajaton just did it better! That was amazing!
