  • I think it's funny how the black dude at the end said "if Yankees stadium, even though I'm not a fan of them, was about to be torn down id be the first to say no." were were you when they did?

  • how heart breaking

  • I loved this place. It was heaven.

  • I am heading down in a month.. I heard the made a new mini stadium there.. Wonder how accessible it is to get on the field.. Going to at least stop by.

  • the inscription was for war dead not athletes...

  • They should have let her be a Baltimore monument: a place where city high school football games are played, and for other miscellaneous uses. It's strange riding up 33rd St and not seeing her there! It

  • Sie sollten eine Statue des Unitas bei Lucas haben Öl zu , und obwohl er did'nt spielen für Indy, seine Nummer im Ruhestand ist .

  • Better hurry sir..Yankeee Stadium is on its way down...(unbelievable!!!)

  • first game walking up the ramp seeing a sea of green and seeing brooks for the first time. To a child it was magic.

  • The "Outdoor Insane Asylum" the perfect nickname for that Stadium.

  • As a proud Junior Oriole this really brought back memories of bus rides with my dad to root on Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell, Mark Belanger and the rest.

  • Memorial Stadium, Tiger Stadium, Cleveland's Municipal Stadium, Metropolitan Stadium in Minnesota, Three Rivers Stadium, Riverfront Stadium, Veterans Stadium, War memorial Stadium in Buffalo...gone, but will never be forgotten. Too much history and heart in those great buildings. Thank God at least the old films of these great shrines have been preserved.

  • Well some of those stadiums ought to be forgotten, The Vet and Three Rivers were terrible.

  • Oh come on now...those stadiums had charm. So what if the concrete was cracking all over the place and the smell of the bathrooms was enough to make you gag. There was lots of history in those old stadiums. They should have been preserved.

  • @Ninety2q That's because the Vet, Three Rivers, and Riverfront in Cincinnati were cookie cutter stadiums with Astroturf and no personality.

  • @Ninety2q I liked Three Rivers. Glad I got to see it.

  • I remember going to a Raven's game there as a kid once, I was very young so I remember it faintly.

I believe it was opening season.

  • Memorial Stadium is my first baseball memory. As a toddler, I remember sitting in the left field bleachers with my mom and dad yelling "Eddie, Eddie!" When they began demolition, I new I had to buy my father an original wooden seat. Miss you Memorial. Go O's and Ravens!

  • Two words- Elrod Hendricks. I miss his smile and generosity. He was a wonderful person.

  • I have many pleasant memories from while I was growing up of Memorial Stadium. As someone said, it was the worlds largest outdoor insane aslyum. The main problem is, politicians. They could care less about what the people wanted. They could have kept the large memorial wall in the front up. It was a tribute to the fallen war heroes. Instead they tore the whole thing down.

  • amazing that the mayor let this happen. they could have easily kept some of the facade. what is there presently is so ugly.

  • It was the only place in the world where you would hear the loud roar of " Kill Bubba Kill" or see a Home Run described by Chuck Thompson as a ball hit over to Mayberry St ; followed by a " go to war mrs Agnes" It was my childhood in the 60's, it was the place Brooks, Frank, and Unitas built! God Speed to Memorial Stadium!

  • Memorial Stadium was a landmark it was part of our family a few dollars for an afternoon of fun and memories... baseball use to be a family event not it is commerialized no soul or spirit sad to say..... but times cahnge things but never our memories..... Oriole Magic......

  • man camden yards is nice thats where cal ripken jr. broke lou gerhigs record man...sure you will miss it but you will have it in your heart so dont be sad just enjoy the new stadium sure you will miss it but..i love camden yards and i love the orioles but dont bail out on camden yards thats just a shame..

  • i'm depressed i never got to see the stadium...i really wish i could have seen it...

  • I'm a Yankees fan up here in NY and i know how it feels now. I hate to see these relics destroyed only because they don't have enough luxury boxes for the fat cats.

RIP Memorial, Comisky, Tiger, and now Yankee Stadium.

  • i've never been in maryland. i heard most is beutiful.

  • It is, most

  • So Memorial Stadium was a child of necessity over its years, with some lousy sightlines in places (lower deck posts and an invisible endzone for some in the upper deck), and some reconfigurations now and then. In the later years it bordered on dump status, but it was OUR DUMP, not some tourist attraction for Yankees and Red Sox fans. The game, and nothing else, was the thing on 33rd street.

  • It's a truly horrible thing that the City of Baltimore demolished it. But, I am pleased with those many who tried to save it.

This film is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. I just watched it, in its entirety, for the first time, last night. I plan to watch it again and again.

  • my dad was a colts fan ever since a kid.

  • they could have done what the yankees are gonna do with yankee stadium..you dont just tear down the whole thing..could have kept it for a minor league team or something. but oh well... i guess everything happens for a reason.

  • In my opinion, though it was cramped, and showing it's age, it was still a better place to watch a baseball game than Camden Yards. It was loud, raucous, and intimidating to visiting teams, unlike the wine and cheese of Camden Yards.

On the other hand, The Ravens stadium is a magnificent venue for football. It's loud, raucous, and intimidates with all of the modern comforts included.

I will always have a place in my heart for "The World's largest outdoor insane asylum".

  • ironhardt,

I agree with you. You could go see the O's for a few bucks. Sit next to Wild Bill, get a great view from the upper reserve, and the 25,000 fans would make more noise than 40,000 do today. I think Camden yards is full of corporate types and Washingtonians who don't really care.

  • I did not know that Memorial Stadium had been demolished. I recall going to a game, as a Junior Oriole, with a friend in 1965. We both decided to head for the Yankees' bus after a day game. I had my Little League baseball signed by many of the players on the bus that day. I have no idea where that ball is. My memories of those years are vivid and will not fade.

  • I only got to go to Memorial Stadium once when I was 4 years old when it was being demolished. I didn't really understand what it meant to Baltimore then but it was sad to see our very first stadium destroyed. :*-(

  • the cowboys stadium is ugly.

  • this is a great movie or whatever you wanna call it....i have to admit, everytime i watch it, i shed a tear...im only 26 yet i have tons of memories....

  • Miracle on Memorial Street....

Love our old days, but, TRY to embrace the new---we have Unidas and Poe--One who is all Good and All-American, and the other of mystery and darkness..hmmmmmmm.....
