@robmadore1 IT would have went downhilll regardless as I think Jerry had hit his limit. I'm pretty sure he was going to leave the band after the 95 tour. And you know how that goes. When something that significant comes on, it's been coming. It wasn't a instant thing. Most likely when it became a issue of money and pressure. That I'm sure killed it for him. In part due to his addictions. Money and pressure means less time using.
Brent was just what the band needed after Keith, Keith ticked those lil ivories like nobodies business, but Brent was a nice segue into what was to come electronically/musically. They both have a sweet spot in my soul, and both still give me shivers and make my eyes well up, sometimes at the same time....
Brent was awsome! After he died no could come close to filling those shoes.Ever tried to sing like Brent? Vince/? give me a break sounded like he was playing an organ grinder. Personally I loved the Brent years and I have seen enough shows to know.
watching Jerry's reaction to this song, how psyched he was, how psyched he was on Brent pretty much summarizes the awesomness of 80's and 90 dead. I miss jerry AND brent
@EvacuateTrailer I see these people all the time. They just can't adapt to change. Sure Keith was great in his own way, but it was more of a technical Bach sort of way. Brent has more feeling in one keystroke than Keith could cough up in a whole show. Plus he took all the asshole heads shit. Well, we can say this. Brent did more shows with the band than anybody in the slot. And he took on more than anybody but Pig. I miss him greatly.
thank you for the posting...this song got me through a real hard divorce....real love gone to shit....but this song helps me see it in a different light...
there was no way I would have said this is a grateful dead song if i had heard this in the radio! wow! just wow! every song they play is so alive so deep so awesome!
If, say, all the grateful dead members would split up and start their own band! then each of these band would be so awesome! so if u reverse it it's like saying, "the band 1967" (random year btw) is a band which consists of members like Hendrix, Clapton, J Lennon, and u name it! damn
I love how Brett's keyboards call out to Jerry's solo at 2:56, begging, "Jerry, play the passion, brother." Jerry's glance is then echoed in his guitar work. Perfection blended with passion, that is/was the Grateful Dead!
brent is god. one soulful whiteboy thats for damn sure. dude he's just letting it all out. i love how intense his raps are. to anyone that questions brents importance in the dead and questions who the best keyboardist of the dead was. watch this whole video. you will quickly change your mind. this is just one of many great brent performances that we will look back on like we are now with aw. this doesnt happen anymore. with any band. RIP BRENT.
We were at that show as well.....Brent had a lot to sing abooot his mismarraige, so do I as well... RIP to one of the best keyboardists for one the grAtetest band ever.... I am thankful to had 88-90 to see Brent perform
<3...One of the many reasons Jerry never got over the death of Brent.....Just look at those 2 (RIP) during Blow Away...Fkng MONUMENTAL...I MISS YOU 2 SO MUCH.......
just look at jerry having fun. that's amazing thank you brent for waking him up to the love of music and i love how he can lead this band in a totally new direction...he was never the "new guy"
This version's an all time favorite! It's a treat to see some video of this. Many years ago now like '99 ish I would invite some friends over after work for a session and i would put on this version of this song. Even though none of them were into the Dead they were diggin this song! Not to say they didn't like other Dead tunes i put on but this became a staple in our hang out sessions. One time one of the guys did what brent said and put his fist in the air etc. then we all had to do it lol!
its kinda funny i just got done reading the message you posted like two minutes before brent said it made me laugh and of course i couldnt resist doin it ! lol
AWESOME- MISS YOU BRENT.
