cai zhenhua? a legend? he used a combination racket - one side was a normal rubber and the other was a long pips one - and twiddled it. and what made matter worse was that both sides were black! he drove the young waldner crazy because of his hidden serves and yet he couldn't manage to win convincingly. if he played today, he would easily have been figured out. he was not a good player. he was a great coach though!
@donluna2000 In twiddling he was not alone, lets not forget Liu Guoliang. Although i loved him and his very unique style his twiddling in service´s, receive´s and in middle of duels could make very good players just simply give up. it took for an exemple Waldner like 5 matches until he figured him out, then he beat him 4 times in a row. Twiddling is still going on but is no longer a winning formula among the world top
@donluna2000 Also, not a very big issue for me some Chinese players still use twiddling but to lesser degree. Often they have european rubber on backhand and thacky & hard on forehand. That sort of mean reptile hard backhand and these...corkscrew forehands that is very hard to handle because of the immense spin they generate that more or less forces the opponent to go in to rallies, were the chinese excel. The twiddling is used according to the opponents distance from the table.
@donluna2000 Chinese hard rubbers are hard, if not impossible to smash with and these are the only times i notice the twiddle the paddles so its not a big issue for me. Maybe they do it on other occations aswell but nothing have taken notice of. And last, maybe i would prefer if they used same kind of material on both sides but atleast we dont have any Cai Zhenhua´s anymore. Thx god for that
Guo Yuehua & Cai Zhenhua is the legend of Table Tennis in 1980s. However, there are only few their good video clip on youtuble. Thanks for your video clip and many fans will enjoy it. Furthermore, do you have clip for LiZhenShi & Xie Saike , those famous penhold short pip players. Thanks.
guo yuehua was truly a beast during his prime. he is the best ever. I heard even persson and waldner acknowledge guo yuehua to be the best ever.
