Hmmm . . . lack of crew discipline, man your station, not the other guys. The coms guy should have dumped the navigator - who seems to be the helmsman - back in his seat.
Even my little daughter noticed something odd about this plot: When the crewman stared at the rapidly growing and faltering tomatoes, does this not mean from the perspective of the tomato that the fellow was standing there for WEEKS and gaping?
(In fact, I pointed out, the bodily functions of the crew members should accelerate like everything else, so indeed no one would notice anything particular about the timeflow. This is a very common mistake in SF.)
It is clear Teresa wasn't trained in higher level education. She should have just skipped the intro and gone straight to the point.
