Composites, fiberglass or modern laminated? After the amount of bending, they seem true horn bows. What is the ratio arrow mass/ draw weight, what draw length, what brace height and what distance?
At the end of each shot in the beginning I noticed that the string near the siyah seems to be resettled or something I dont know the correct term. Is it due to limb twist or something? because I have a Korean Fiberglass bow that has its string slightly off center of the string bridge/black pad at the base of its siyah.
Yes it is a twist in the limbs, it is one of the first hornbows of the bowyer you see in the vid so it has a few mistakes. After each shot we had to inspect the bow and realign the string. This problem shouldnt exist with a fiberglass bow tho.
Interesting, on my Kassai bow the drawweight is measured at 30"...But on the other side, it´s an enterily other construction than on this turkish bow.
@gokmenpasha WoW! very nice Bows I Was Born in Ukraine But Moved i'm guessing this is a Crimean-Tartar Bow? I was looking for a Bow that was used in my Country and had some similar designs i'm looking to use one For Hunting and Sport and found weight 25-65 And i see you have 100lbs is this because of the String? Where do you get your Bows my friend I haven't used a bow since I was little but looking to go back.
The bowyer strung it, I just shot. It was the same in Ottoman times. They came to the meydan (Flight archery place) in a group like to a boxing match. The bowyer looks after the bow, strings it, controls it after a few shots. The arrow maker might be there too consulting on arrows and finally the sportsman who will concentrate on warming up and on shooting.
I've heard that lower poundage bows often outshoot higher poundage bows in flight archery. Is this because the lighter poundage bows can shoot lighter arrows without the arrow breaking?
Thats true for modern bows and non-hornbows. To achieve a higher drawweight the arms of the bow get too heavy. When releasing, the arms are too heavy to bring the arrow forward. BUT hornbows are built in a different way, a hornbow can be 150lbs and still weigh e.g. 350 gram. That gives the arrow incredible speed because the arms are light but still powerful. Imagine, Ottoman flight archers reached distances as far as 850m..
Thank you for the quick reply, and by the way... very nice bow, the 100lb one you shot. Could really see that it was powerful. Have you ever run your own 92lb Crimean-Tatar through a chronograph?
Thanks. The Crimean Tatar is rather slow as it is a fibreglass/horn mix. It is not fully organic. I didnt measure its speed. I use it more for pulling exersizes than shooting. It should prepare me for heavy hornbows..
great ! its all horn bow or thr ?

@TheLukaszH Hornbow. There might be one Grozer Tatar half horn bow though. You will recognize it.

Do you string the bow with the step-through method, or were you assisted? 100lbs must be hard to string.
TYKKETYKKE 2 years ago
It´s only 100lbs at the end of the drawlength, I guess.

There is a standard to measure the drawweight of a bow, that is at 28 inches.

You are pulling that heavy bow with ease. That is great.
