Art Monk will always be my favorite athlete. A hero to those who value modesty over imbecility. Results over talk. How much could the loud mouth, end zone dancing (team down by 14), idiots, who for some reason get cheered on by the fans, learn from watching the way this guy carried himself on and off the field, and in the locker room? Ochocinco, Owens, etc, couldn't clean Art Monks jock strap. All that and he was also, bar none, the greatest possession receiver to ever play the game. HAIL 81
i grew up in the washington area and must admit i'm a cowboys fan. that being said, i sure do miss the great rivalry of the 70s and 80s. i hate that it's just not the same. i must give all props to art monk - awesome, awesome receiver. i still remember "WE WANT DALLAS. WE WANT DALLAS". i also want to say there was never a better broadcaster than Frank Herzog. i used to listen to him and sonny jurgenson and sam huff on the radio. miss the old days
Seriously, how in the hell was Art Monk not a first ballot hall of famer? Was there a more accomplished wide receiver during his playing time (other than Jerry Rice)? He won super bowls, set numerous records, and played for 16 years. What more did he have to do to get in? Such an injustice for a great player and an even greater human being.
Never dropped a pass, never bragged, never created sqaubbles amongst his teamates or the press. He is 1 of the top 5 WR to ever play and easily the greaest possesion reciever who ever lived. Consistancy personified.
I remember the Monday Night Game at R.F.K. Stadium vs. the Denver Broncos when he broke Charlie Joiner's all-time receptions record. I still get chills when I see highlights of that reception and the crowd going crazy. That's what Redskin football was all about, and oh by the way they blew out Denver 34-3. A perfect ending to a perfect night!!
its a shame that the redskins aint doin anything 2 memerable these days !! we need the next generation of art monk's,darrell green's etc to take us to superbowl victory again !!!!

It will always bug me that Irvin got in before him. He had more class in his little to than Irvin had in his whole miserable body.

When I was a kid, I was Art Monk playing ball in the school yard. Class, great routes, great hands.

Pure class as a player but more importantly as a person, these new jacks can never have his persona.

Nice job.

Imagine if the great Art Monk would've had a hall of fame qb like Dan Marino, John Elway, Joe Montana, or Jim Kelly. Imagine those stats.
keena302 2 years ago
Especially with the Hogs blocking for the QB & the Redskins running game.

@keena302 he would STILL be the record holder if that were the case.

What was not mentioned in the video is that Art Monk is the only player to catch at least 35 passes in 15 straight seasons.

you need to fix the title, description, and tags. this is art monk, not darrell green.
