Bobby Burgess was always "heavy" for a dancer. He never seemed "hot" as far as male dancers go. "CUTE" - yes. But "Hot" - no. I had more fantasies about Jimmy Dodd. Also, curious how "Annette" seems underused here. And - no sign of nudie-cutie Doreen Tracy?
wow that wasn't a good year for Paul Williams, as far as looks go. But then again the 80s weren't all that kind to him, career wise and substance wise
I don't ever remembering missing a show. " I wanna see Mickey Mouse" I recall wanting one of those hats until a neighbor kid got one. Then I thought it looked stupid. Lol
@TheBelldiver The "ears" the Mouseketeers wore were specially made, molded to each individual's head, and probably much better quality than those sold commercially
They cost $50.00, a big sum in the 1950's. Annette wrote in her autobiography that the Mouseketeers were charged for each pair of ears they lost.
Definitely a happier time for these Mouseketeers. This was taped just a few years before Karen's car accident, Annette's experiencing the early symptoms of MS, and Darlene's trouble with the law.
Does anyone know where this can be found? I'm dying to see all of it and these two clips are amazing but are like giant teasers, lol. Annette looks so amazing I have to see all of it. Anyone?
I have very warm, and fond memories of watching this show. I wish they would but it out in DVD/Blue Ray box sets. I would love for my grandchildren to see The Original Mouseketeers.
@SweetSue4 The only really good DVD is the Walt Disney Treaures of the Mickey Mouse CLub. It has the full hour shows for the first week of the series. Check it out on Amaazon or Ultimate Disney.
Doreen didn't perform at the time because Sherry was a stronger dancer-singer, at least that was the reason given at the time ~ so the nine originals (who used to do most of the Mousketeer roll calls) did most of the singing and dancing, although there were (I believe) 24 Original mousketeers ~
@mario63nj Actually I heard that Doreen posed nude in some magazine at the time. And, believe it or not, I saw one of the photos several years ago at an now-defunct Anaheim antique mall!
Now THAT is talent! It's one thing to be able to look cute on TV and shuffle/carry a tune when you're a kid, but if you can still sing and dance the same songs 30 or 40 years later, you KNOW you're the tops! And if you're still having FUN doing all that and hanging out with your old costars . . . I don't think there's a word to describe it beside supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!!
Just a pointless piece of trivia but Jimmie Dodd was in Easter Parade with Judy Garland. He plays the cab driver in the scene right after Judy and Fred audition for the Zeigfield Follies
The name Jimmie says is Etienne de Grillet. Etienne is French for Stephen.
I will pass through this world but once. Any good that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it nowfor I shall not pass this way again. ~ Etienne De Grillet
Walt died a couple of years after Jimmy. I know Walt didn't really think that much of the Mickey Mouse Club and Jimmy was "just" a contractor with the studio but does anyone know if Walt went to Jimmy's funeral? Did he say anything at it?
Times have changed a lot since the 1950's. Cooking with Minnie Mouse didn't survive the intervening years. I'm surprised the producers chose this particular song for a nostalgic look-back.
Cooking with Minnie Mouse sounded slightly sexist. It puts a different view on all this, along with a horny Jiminy Cricket - I see how he looks at anything female in Pinocchio. My wife would hate this - she hates anything Disney. I'm indifferent usually. But still, I think this clip is cool. Thanks!
Does anyone know what sherry is saying at 5:28???
(the part where there listing the songs Jimmy dodd composed)
I can't understand which song she is saying. Much appreciate it!

It's kind of awkward seeing a bunch of adults acting as though they were exactly the same age as when we left them half a century ago.

Stephen Grellet born Étienne de Grellet du Mabillier November 2, 1773 November 16, 1855.

It's actually Stephen Grellet who said that. And it is a beauty of a quote, isn't it?
