@V8Surf1 and you dont have to many problems with the running gear ?? is the gearbox the 1uz auto ?? how much did the engine conversion set you back ??
@matthewwarr nah no probs with the running gear. It is the auto gearbox from an early '90s V6 toyota surf (4runner) with the oil pump and all internals from a 1UZ auto. They are the same box but with different spacers and clutch pack arrangements. I dont run an ecu to the auto at all and just change manually. "1" is first gear. "2" with my OD button out is second, "2" with OD button in is third, and "D" is fourth. I decided to make 2nd & 3rd just a push button as most of my
time is spent in 2nd or 3rd. Runs well, but a pain to do.
If no electronics are available to the box it will run 1st, 3rd, then 4th (1, 2 D) but I supply 12v to the correct solenoid(s) with the OD button to select 2nd. Can't remember whether it was both or just one solenoid? Been a while since I did that sorry.
If I was going to do it again I would mate the transfer case from a 4wd to the 1UZ auto.
A few mods to be done to the output shaft of the 1UZ auto,
I now have the transfer case from an early '90s Prado (NZ name for it. Its a Landcruiser Prado here, not sure in other parts of the world?) as it is the same mounting as the V6 but it has a PTO output so I can use a PTO winch instead of an electric winch. I have turned the PTO output to face backwards as my winch is under the tray behind the cab and runs up a tube out the front.
I did all the work myself so I really have no idea how much it all cost as I did lots at the same time.
Engine with auto $1300?
Link ECU $1500-2000?
Prado transfer case $500? Needed to make custom driveshafts for this as well. Front shorter, rear longer
Moved front diff forward with new locating holes in spring mounts. Easy with a big drill. Steering shaft works as std, but better with an adjustable one or crossover conversion.
Wow, I have been thinking of doing something similar to what you did with the cab, I have a 4runner and have been thinking of bobbing the bed and top and moving my tailgate forward so that I would still have the motorized rear window so I can close the truck up in the winter. I would probably have it just slightly longer than what you left with a slightly smaller flatbed though.
it goes and sounds a lot better now after it had more of a tune the night after this stage. Had a lot more go as well. Been sitting in storage for a while now though sadly :(

yea depends where you live. Here in NZ is a Hilux "Surf" so I now call it a hilux. But 4runner is also correct
