@ObscuroSknim1234 One of the things that gives it away is the fact that Dr. Zaius mentions "man's destructive tendencies" destroyed the paradise the area once was. Another cookie is the setting of the film. It was produced in 1968, at the height of the Cold War, where nuclear war had a very high probability of happening.

That was filmed at Point Dume north of Malibu. My daughter and I went hiking up on the bluffs there last summer.

The gorilla hunt of the humans was filmed at the Fox Ranch in the Malibu Canyon area near where the helicopters in the intro of the MASH TV series were filmed.

It's too bad that there were way too many cultural references to this that it spoiled the movie for me before I was able to watch it.

Looking back at it, the scene was perfect until "All the time it was..." and then builds to "YOU MANIACS ! etc." which feels too over the top. I think his weak, horrified "I'm home..." followed by the revealing shot of the statue of liberty would have been enough. The rest of the dialogue combined with hammy acting makes it dated.
