Finally, for some of these women, posing as such provides something of a counterpoint to the, I'll say masculine, nature of their sports. I think it sends a kind of message that women need not compromise their feminity while pursuing athletics. They can have it both ways if they desire.
Do you have any idea how many women whill not lift weights, despite being an excellent way to prevent osteoporosis, because they are afraid of becoming manly?
... or intimidating. And if you are honest, I'm sure that guys in dominant poses probably stimulates you more than if he were holding the pose at say, 1:05 or 2:17.
The fact of the matter is that athletes are inherently sex symbols. They are powerful and virile, both genders. They are who usually frequent our fantasies, and these fantasies aren't always because of social conditioning, any more than homosexuality is.
To make a point, can you name 1 man that you'd like to see in a thong?
I honestly don't think this issue here is really about sexism, at least completely. If you put a man in the poses that the women hold, it is ridiculous. Not to mention that it really wouldn't do anything to stimulate women.
While intellectually men and women are equals, and socially we should be, the fact of the matter is, is that physically and psychologically, we are not. This isn't a bad thing per se. Submissive men are seen as ineffectual, and dominant women can be seen as threatening

Threatening to whom? Threatening to the patriarch system we are living in -
Strong, athletic women might look threatening to men, so they have to take these submissiv poses to deliver the message: I might be physical strong, but look, I know my place, I am your willing sex slave.
So I think it is exactly sexism that causes these different types of posing for men and women.
I'll thank you to not stick me with the strawman argument next time.
I said that dominant women CAN be seen as threatening. Unfortunately, in our world, more often than not dominance is synonymous with violence. Hence the threatening.
Basically what you are saying is that not only is all the posing done by women based on sexism, but that women shouldn't be allowed to pose in such a way either?
