  • DISGUSTIN UNBEREABLE SHE SING MORE LIKE A SARA BRIGHTMAN JR. OR A POP POP POP SINGER BUT SHE DOES NOT HAVE A THE NECESSARY FOR A SOPRANO

  • She has more talent then all the haters out there! Who cares about her age, its just a song!

  • @kittycasino29 When a little girl sings how she is going to throw herself into a river if she can't marry the boy then yes, the age is important. Even if it hadn't been an aria from an opera but were "just a song", it still has words, it's not just a collection of notes, a "beautiful noise": it has words, and words have meaning and the singers have to communicate this meaning not just hit the notes. Also, by now she has no voice left because she's sung this music too soon.

  • I stand corrected. I never thought of that and I agree with you now that you have posted it. Cheers

  • @msaiden~ My chief concern at this point is not only in regards to J.E. but to the young singer, Jaqueline, from France.

What on Earth is a 10 yr old doing singing songs like "Lovers" and lyrics like "Hold you in my arms and kiss away your pain", etc?

    Wherrre are their parents!?

    What are their "handlers" thinking???

    Just incredibly inappropriate to me.

I would be more careful with my daughter.

  • I thought she did a great job in context of being only 13. the brits seemed to think so.

  • @cellofingers Well I'm a Brit and i think it was a very bad idea for her to attempt opera, she lacked the training and ability and actually damaged her vocal cords through straining them by singing beyond her scope, she now has a rough 'rocky' sound because of scarring to her vocal cords...as well as smoking and drinking and screaming at her ex-husband too much!

  • ★ * ★ ★ * * ★

    Love Charlotte!

    ★ * ★ ★ * * ★Katie

  • Must everyone compare this to Jackie Evancho? Hello, she's 13! I get it, Jackie is super talented and super young, But this young lady has so much potential<3 at a young age too.

  • @KowaiLeeks OK. I just listened to this again...and in places...I cringed...way to shrill.

  • @KowaiLeeks Charlotte Church no longer has any potential - she's grown up and her voice is a mediocre pop voice now. Yes, she had potential, but she wrecked her voice singing arias and with bad technique. She can now only sing pop because of the wobble in her voice.

  • Just heard this for the first time. Not bad. But not even close in beauty to the sound of Jackie's voice. Extremely shrill in places.

  • Jackie sings high notes EFFORTLESSLY.

I think Charlotte did a commendable job here.

    She's fine.

  • @skbnvacaville Sorry but have u seen the painful faces jackie pulls when singing this song. it is dreadful and cringe worthy tbh she is far too young to feel the emotions that come with this song. Maria Callas sung this superbly and in my opinion and im sure everyone else would agree, the best. there is no doubt that she potrays the pain, heartbreak and desperation that is in these lyrics. if you want someone who sings this "effortlessly" dont turn to jackie.....listen to Maria Callas!! xxx

  • @mrsaidengrimshaw There are many excellent performances here not just Callas. There is Ruth Ann Swenson who sings it very well, Kiri te Kanawa, Sumi Jo, Ana Maria Martinez too. There are other good performances too. Callas was incredibly expressive, a great artist, but not everyone likes her voice timbre some consider it a bit harsh and metallic. There are even young singers who do a good job with it e.g. Nadine Sierra, not at the level of greats but very good.

  • Something's wrong with her voice...

  • Fantastic and superb! Great and Special!

  • dejen las criticas, ella canta o cantaba muy bien!!....

  • Who are you pricks to make these critisizing remarks? Can you sing? Go shove your heads back up your pompous arses where they belong.

  • @baritonebynight shirley bassey could never sing opera.I note you mention the dame tag.Obviously you are english

  • she is actually better than most other attempts by other ppl. and plus come on for a 13year old that was amazing

  • Awesome!

  • Absolutely spell binding! Love it. 5*

  • never have i read such rubbish

  • The tone is very sweet but the technique is all over the place.

  • Sure are a lot of vocal coaches and experts commenting here......

  • People who say that this song will ruin a young singers voice are just ignorant. Her vocal cords are healthy and strong, stronger than a non-singer. She has talent, period. And years later, many performances later, Ms. Church is still wowing people with her voice. I hate it people make up 'rules' that have no evidence to support their opinions. Talent isn't taught, you're born with it. Get over yourselves and enjoy the song.

  • @dlcicconi absolutely right. These people clearly haven't listened to CC's recent works ...

  • ... Her breathing... Why is she doing that?! I have never seen a singer breathe so improperly before! And this is coming from from someone with pretty much no training. At least I can use my diaphragm. (She still has a lovely voice) This is old- maybe she's learned since then.

  • @EvanescentWoodNymph: too tight dress :(

  • she has made her money and can still sing all these years later .solid welsh

  • @tezzabanboy She certainly did make money! But she has no voice left. If you want to speak about solid Welsh...lets talk Dame Shirley Bassey!

  • Way better than Evancho(no offense .)

  • someone should have stopped her from singing like that at her age!! its just wrong!! as a consequence she has now ruined her voice due to so many years of her young and thin vocal chords being worked too hard.... its really sad... honestly!! and now there is that other beautiful young 11 year old, jackie evancho... they dont know what this is going to do to them in the long run.... :(

  • She's amazing !!!

  • Wow wow wow. Une très grande cantatrice à son jeune âge. Impressionnant!!!!

  • please LISTEN to her singing.. held.. tight.. squeezed and pushed!!

  • WOWW! i love charlotte church soooo much! amazing, absolutely amazing! xxx

  • Perfect love it love you. you r truly the best i ever heard

  • i have to say i am not a Charlotte church fan but how ever her voice is so amazing

much stronger then Hayley westerner. Hayley is a fantastic singer.

    .

  • She's too young to sing like that... If she keep doing it, she will damage her beautiful voice

  • nice voice. but yes as above. attack on the first high note ... wow. painful jolt. i feel down about life...

  • Terrible. How can a little girl with a pretty voice but no classical training pretend to sing this? Awful attack, awful breathing, awful pronunciation, and she is unable to sustain a pianissimo. What the hell is she singing these days?

  • Let's face it, Leontyne Price she's not. I've never been a fan (my crazy grandmother really liked her) But her voice to me, has always been flat, lifeless. Yeah, I know, she's only 4 years old...

  • I may not know much about vocal stability and musical judgment... But I know a wonderful voice when I hear one. Take care, and God Bless.

    The Preacherman.

  • In this video yes Charlotte was young, very young, she needed more time for her voice to mature and develope before being thrust into the spotlight. The female voice does not mature fully until the age of 30+ so I am not saying there are not some great voices before that but I am saying there is definately room to grow.

  • I will cut my ears after this.

  • I love this song! Watch my video of me singing this wondeful song! :D xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Say what you like she is the best

  • *Tell you what: 10-year-old American Jackie Evancho sings this same song better than C.C.

  • Too slow.

    After Kiri and Maria, well...

  • Too slow.

  • soooooooo much better than her version of in trutina.

  • impresionante voz.... mala respiracion!!!

  • give the girl a break for god's sake she is, but 13 singing this in front of millions!!!

  • Terrible. Bad breathing and wobbling her chin to try to achieve a decent vibrato. Schreechy high notes too.

  • @arpeggio1358 yes,i agree..she could be patient(her parents i mean)and have classical singing lessons in the age of 17 maybe..is complitelly wrong to 'use' and destroy someone like this..she could be a very good soprano because she has a very strong instrument but no...is late..

  • @dulCISSIMA1 She should have had a good teacher right from the begining. Apparently she did have training, but it didn't seem to do much good. At any rate, it is as you say, too late now. The damage is done. Perhaps the parents were at fault and pushed her into the career. Who knows.

  • It's not the age at which she sung this song that has me worried. Voices have different strengths at different times. She may not have been at the top of her game so to speak when she performed this. Age doesn't necessarily determine how well you can sing a song. I know some thirteen year olds who could sing this one beautifully. She just didn't have the best technique, pushing herself up into those notes instead of letting it come naturally. And the vibrato? Well, some people have to use their

  • Yes, she ruined herself. I hope she recovers a little sense. When she does she'll have a career, to be sure.

  • She's no Susan Boyle though

  • She does not breathe professionally. Terrible.

  • @AllyMcBeal2907 i totally agree, altho she was only 13,

i sang this song a couple weeks ago for skl concert its very difficult to get the breathing right, because of nerves, and im 16, but i am sure she could have done better then this at the breathing

  • The breath is terrible!!!

  • I like her voice with this song.

  • Very nice. better than several other versions of this I've heard..but I like Jackie Evancho's rendition even better overall.

  • @JediMasterRich By far...

  • She sings also in SEVEN different languages...! You Go GIRL...!

  • Why does the public go crazy for young kids who can kinda-sing? It makes no sense. There was not one aspect of this performance that was remotely acceptable. And the truly sad thing is that she never got any better than this...

  • Very good!

  • Her breathing may have been heavy and she may have been rusty and people are saying, but wouldn't you be absolutely paralyzed with nerves performing in front of the queen and in front of millions at that age? Damn.

  • The self-appointed critics and "experts" here should prduce their own video and post it on YouTube when they have one better than this. Otherwise your asinine comments are worthless. You're just scrofulous little nobodys.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 Exactly, that's why we all must proclaim any random Paris Hilton movie as a masterpiece since we have not made a film ourselves.

  • It was ok. Her voice is a (bit rusty) But she is still great.

  • She should leave these arias to the pros. Breathy, affected and strident.

  • @Brahmsfourth I agree that she was way too young for this aria. Her breathing has never been right. After all those years of training, there's no excuse in that. Wonderful voice for a 13 year old though, even if the aria is not ready. Too bad she didn't correct her technique and continue instead of going into pop. She could have been a wonderful singer.

  • Go Charlotte!

  • random

  • Her breathing was so heavy.

  • How can people give this good points. i s soo out of synce. Charlotte Church did sing well back then, but I've heard lack of proper training strained her voice. Not to mention she went "Britney" and became the darling of Britain's tabloid press. I think she pretty much ruined her popularity in the states.

  • @ruberto53 she isn't off the rails, she did used to go out partying a lot (which teen doesnt?) but that was years ago no she has settled down, has 2 children and is releasing her 6th album in November.

  • Church, Sissel, Brightmann, Westernra...Church still had a great voice, but what became of it? Her breathing here is awful, but she was so young. Ouch, Potts, Bocelli, Il Divo....Tebaldi, Nilsson, Verrett, HELP.....

  • beautiful

  • Eww! Disappointing. I've not followed Charlotte much in recent years but remember being amazed by her lovely young voice. Since Jackie Evancho just wowed everyone on "America's Got Talent," I've been checking out *REAL* opera singers on this aria. The song is not just a walk thru the park punctuated by a few leaps over high hurdles. The lower range is important to express vocally as well, and it's just not there for Charlotte. Same with Ms. Sissel, sadly; can't live in the high notes.

  • @cognitogrrl And what did you think of Jackie Evancho's performance of this piece? I was totally blown away by her ability to get out of her head voice and produce great deep tones. Charlotte Church is now 24, and seems to have lost her way completely as far as I can see. Where is she hiding/

  • @grandmagrumpy Charlotte is married and has a little girl.

  • @grandmagrumpy she isn't married but she was in a long term relationship until recently, she has 2 small children (1 boy & 1 girl), after her last classical album "Enchantment" she released a Platinum selling pop album in the UK and hosted a few seasons of her successful talk show and now she's about to release her 6th album "back to scratch" in november.

It's not classical though it's more like accoustic stuff but sounds really good some tracks "Cold California" & "Snow" are on youtube now.

  • @Luke19Wales Thanks for setting me straight. Charlotte Church was a well kept secret in the US, being from the UK. I hope she has great success with her new album.

  • @cognitogrrl Check out Ruth Ann Swenson, her interpretation is close to perfection, IMHO. Ms Sissel isn't a real opera singer either, though she is better than most crossover singers and maybe could've pursued opera with more training (though I lack expertise to say this for sure, I am just an opera fan, not an expert).

  • @christiane5696 I hate to say it, but professionals "scoff" at Charlotte as well. Her technique is just as incorrect or more so. Now you're right, she was only 13, you can't expect her to have polished technique, but sometimes it honestly scares me because I hear Charlotte do things that damage the voice.

  • Comment removed

  • @bluecamillian You are so right!!!

  • @christiane5696 Ouch! jealous much?! lol! Sorry you weren't born a muusical prodigy, but don't hate that God has given a 10 year old more talent than you:)

  • Comment removed

  • Part of her fame is due to her having been so young when she started singing. She isn't exactly "terrible" but she definitely isn't good when compared to so many other opera singers. Note how she really has to push the high notes. It sounds like someone is there turning the volume up just when she's about to do them.

  • @Barrilera But at that moment, how old was she? How many years of experience and training did her voice have compared to all those other opera singers?

  • @Gudulpif Then, she shouldn't have sung it. Maybe she'd still have had her voice had she stayed away from pieces she couldn't sing.

  • what happened?she looks like she's having an asthma attack.

  • dont get me wrong, i LOVE charlotte church. but you can tell she is CLEARLY FORCING that operatic sound. its a disgrace.

  • It's interesting to compare this to Renata Tebaldi performing the same. Clearly, Tebaldi "gets" what this is about. Church doesn't. She DOES have a lovely voice, but it's beyond sad that her voice was exploited this way.

  • Excellent voice but I agree- she needed the time to develope it to maturity. Where is she now?

  • Voice teachers know what they are doing (someone states below) and wouldn't allow students to sing this if they thought it would damage the voice. HA! Voice teachers have ruined as many voices as they have helped, maybe more.

  • The voice IS beautiful. The attack is awful. Whoever allowed her to sing this kind of thing at thirteen should be whipped. Too bad she wasn't surrounded by people who really cared about her. Had she been, they would have realized this was a special voice and then they would have seen to it that she got the proper grounding in this discipline (classical singing). After about five years of study, then they could have stunned the opera world with something very special. Never will be now.

  • for 13 that is a pretty decent stab at this song

  • O mio babbino caro is about a girl willing to throw herself off a bridge to be with the man she loves. No 13 year old can possibly act that. But I have been trained classically and just heard a fellow student sing this at 14. Granted, she sounded NOTHING like Charlotte, but it is not unhealthy to sing this. Voice teachers know what they are doing. We take at Converse College, and they would not assign this if they knew it was wrong. And singing anything too much can ruin a voice- opera or pop.

  • @Bri3136 well she definitely proved that abusing your abilities before 20+ ruins your voice, listen to her now. scary.

  • the dubbing is just awful! but the song itself is excelento!

  • Whay out!

  • Now if only she had gotten better, rather than sounding like a 13 year old girl for the rest of her career

  • She can actually sing this aria but I agree prolonged exposure to these kinds of aria can destroy her voice.. looking at her technique.. she has very little!! Not saying that she isnt a GREAT singer which she was!! but just imagine if she had breath support as well as technique to back up her great voice!! TRUELY AHEAD OF HER TIME!!

  • Charlotte a quien ya había escuchado que hermosa voz también y que bella mujer, preguntome...personas que cantan con tal sensibilidad, sentimiento, ¿Como serán internamente?

    José

  • Hayley's rendition is better ,but then again she was only 13. Amazing at that age.

  • Shes MUCH to young to be singing this. Its this sort of strain that ended up killing her classical career.

  • @Tomeres She actually decided to give it up at 18 of her own free will because she tired of the genre. She is now singing pop in a low throaty style.

  • "REDhead" your a fucked up unit for even thinking the shit that u wrote..... Charlotte is TRULY AMAZING... just shut the fuck up with your screwed up comments and enjoy it BITCH......

  • Charlotte Church still needs to take time off to learn how to sing correctly. And those who said that shes should not have sung this aria at 13 are right.

  • she is beauty and very professional, ut ths video have problems in audio video sinchronized

  • O Dear Daddy....i love it.... this is for my tatay...

  • Absolutely gorgeous!

  • Are some of you people for real. i guess most of you (Americans) dont even know who charlotte Church really is. Try Googleing her then take look at wikipedia, You then will see that this Welsh Beauty is a Reknown world wide for her singing and has sold Millions of Cd's.

  • this is just a shame, she need to learn how to sing, any student in college can sing better.

  • She was better at this than all that crazy chick shit she did later....

  • She's okay, but you can tell in this that she hasn't had much training. A little breathy, but still okay. The transitions from middle voice to head was off quite a bit, but in this she's very young so that's easily fixed. Overall it wasn't bad at all...

  • thats because she was quite frankly too young to sing this song. this song is from an opera... 13 year olds should be singing other things to prepare for this when they reach 18-20. You can hear the rapsiness in her middle because of the vocal strain... Too young at this point. She could definitely sing it now though. Shame she gave it up.

  • Yes the Aria is not right for children I agree.

They sound wrong doing it and don't have the maturity, but Charlotte sings it beautifully! She is so good at classical singing!

  • Well it was good but she needs to keep her voice more centered and stable. The top notes had good quality to them but for instance the beginning was too much of an airy sound. If that makes sense :) <3

  • am i 1 idiot???? gfrrrr.........brrrrr

  • nice for an amateur

  • This is nice.

  • Sharon this looks like one of those Chinese speaking movies lol

  • o,she should have her vocal chords checked....the voice is damaged.

  • Should I mention it's way out of synch?

  • you know what grow-up everyone here seems like trash to me fighting over youtube who does that? i'm pretty sure these comments are here for people to converse about the video and share opinions which everyone's entitiled to so let people say what they want!

  • try ME

  • This was a very good performance, but I much prefer Barbara Padilla's rendition of this aria when she sang it at the final round of America's Got Talent. Barbara sings with so much feeling that it leaves you awestruck and in tears, and she's got a very POWERFUL, clear voice.

  • her voice is destroyed now beacuse she sang songs like this when she was too young! poor charlotte church.

  • explain?

  • If it's not completely and utterly obvious to you why, then there is no way that I will be able to explain it to you.

  • spoken like someone who doesn't truly understand it himself.

  • a pithy reply,but sadly meaningless.

  • try and sound as sophisticated as you want as you type from your imaginary white tower, you still cant explain anything, because you dont know anything.

dont bother replying unless you care to prove me wrong, youll just be going in circles.

  • ladies and gentlemen, i rest my case.

its snobbish douche-bags like you that ruin the already iffy reputation of the worlds better music- like this. thanks for your own little disservice to the classical styles of music, and to all humanity.

  • I don't give a damn about the 'reputation' of classical music amongst the uneducated masses. If they're too stupid to enjoy this music in it's proper context and in it's entirety, I really couldn't care less.

  • well good for you buddy, youre so cool and sophisticated and above the clout... damn, i just wish i could be your friend so that i could be a little cool like you too... but, alas, the best i can do is worship your awesomeness from afar and bow to your greatness over the internet.

or, i could just call you a douche-bag. you fuckin douche-bag.

  • Ha ha, I see you still are incapable of even explaining your original point.

Don't bother responding, I'm done with you

  • ok-guttersnipe-enjoy your trashy culture.

  • So what if the song is too "mature" for her...but I think she did a great job for a 13 year old....Im pretty sure you all are just jealous that ya'll cant sing like her... just keep the negative comments to yourself please. Bravo Charlotte Church. You did great! Especially taking into account how young you are.

  • verry good for a 13 year old, the aria is just a little slow.....BRAVA!!

  • This is utterly vulgar.

  • ???

  • Sure she may not sing this song the best. However, she is pretty amazing for a 13 year old... just saying. I couldn't sing like that when I was 13, plus my teacher wouldn't let me. But that isn't the point...

  • ugh! she's butchering the language and the music!! and she's got terrible breath control!! she is too young to sing this, but I'm thirteen and I sing it better then her.

I hate how everyone fawns over a voice just because its got a some vibrato at a younger age. she is a horrible classical musician.

  • Let's hear it.

  • she actually has no vibrato she manipulates it by moving her jaw thats why she has that huge wah wah sound whenm she sings.

  • This song is intended for a mature woman. It doesn't have the same emotional effect. Waste of time.
