no offense but i dont get whats so good about it. i personally think it's because british people never see or hear black women, so they think it sounds completely new and amazing.
I never heard of these guys until I started watching House and I am so glad I was curious about the intro tune. Massive Attack is an era I would have loved to live through. I love the music and the beats and the voices!
Fantastic to remember this song. A truly international sound. I was in the Netherlands when it came out. The video made me homesick for Oakland. It looks like LA or Oakland. But, the sound is really WORLD!
@TheLinz76 I agree with you but Moby had a top 10 hit with Go in the UK. That song came out in November 1990 and was a hit in early 1991. 2 months before Unfinished Sympathy came out but Go was a straight out dance tune while this was a completely different sound.
@mrbeancounter90 Chinese stress balls, nothing sinister you roll them in your palm, they are a stress relief method activity (a hollow metal ball with a clanger inside them ... like a bell)
Truly great track, this lasts the tests of time. The outro is superb, but the best thing for me is the simple piano interlude that "cuts" through the track in my opinion - at 2:31
I never heard this before until today- WOW! Was listening to a Madonna song, I wnat you which Massive Attack produced and was led to this. It makes me realise just how much crap we get nowadays, this moves me, makes me want to dance, makes me think, feel and I just cant stop listening!!! I am gonna get the album this track is from called Blue Lines

Bought this when titled UNFINISHED SYMPHONY , why the change ? Bought it same day as BITTER SWEET SYMPHONY by The Verve , guess i was feeling classically minded at time or else just in the mood for a walk.
I think this song came out in 1991...that means its 21 years old its timeless...I started smoking weed in 91 and I still am smoking it...I have to stop.
@benhart47 Hallo,I don't drink alcohol,I have lost to many loved one's threw alcohol,I just want to be T total, have you seen the massive attack, live with me video, that video is enough to put you off alcohol, have good one mate.
@itsanillusion100 yes, but I think - although the many differences between the both of you - that british and american people are sons of the same seed..and this sound is close to moby, in my opinion, and he's american..
but, to tell the truth, I am usually quite able to notice the proper sound of american music, as something different from the british one...this time I've failed, I can say it without any problem.
@Starkardur like i've already said, my comment wasn't blinking at any kind of musical patrioctism..for example, for me moby' "porcelain" is the sound of san francisco because that was the music i've listenend to when i was there..but moby is a newyorker, so what I feel does not mean that I underestimate or ignore is "newyorkness"....!
but I understand that you must be proud your country has massive attack between its sons..
@smirnesca I am not from London or from England or the UK for that matter. I´m from Iceland but listening to this song in Reykjavík in 1991 doesn´t make me say the sound of Reykjavík because it isn´t. Its a british band with a sound originated from there.
@Starkardur well, now I can live an happy life....honestly, I wouldn't waste my time answering to your topics, if you could only stop to attack me for a line I've written long time ago..i can't understand it..because there are so many enciclopedia everywhere, that here it would be great just to listen to the music and say what you have in mind without any "I'm-the-smartest" someone waiting behind the corner just to criticize and correct you..
I guess one of the best videos ever. Imagine the effort it took to make this one shoot, with all the things happening. The song is fantastic, and Shara Nelson singing it with her wonderfull soulfull voice. Epic.
Why do so many fucktards leave comments saying 'Thumbs up if your listening in 2012' and it actually gets to the top comments. WHY??! It's not even a worthy comment and people should vote it down!
the rising intensity of those strings starting at 3:27 is insane. Like not "Oh wow, what an enjoyable moment, this song is most good" insane, like "Holy shit I want to go run bollock naked in the rain then sit down and write some poetry" insane.
I was listening to this on my iPod today when I was walking home and just like her in the video I just didn't give a shit about the people around me! Legendary tune!
I know that I've been mad in love before And how it could be with you Really hurt me baby, really cut me baby How can you have a day without a night You're the book that I have opened And now I've got to know much more The curiousness of your potential kiss Has got my mind and body aching Really hurt me baby, really cut me baby How can you have a day without a night You're the book that I have opened

this song/video moves with the kind of speed and grace so many new artists can only dream about
very impressive, subtle and complex
it's so mesmerizing, provocative, and just plain wonderful to listen to
