Depends, if you drive long distances on highways, a nice turbodiesel is more economic, and more comfortable. Prius is better for driving around town and if you happen to be in traffic jams a lot :) Now that is not a joke, many people waste good fuel in traffic jams so there is certainly gain to a hybrid, it's just not the means to all ends
manufacture/shipping of these batteries is far more wasteful and damaging to the environment than a petrol powered vehicle, do some research people and see for yourselves. Electric cars are a farce, hydrogen or lpg is the only answer at this stage.

hybrids like the Honda Accord Hybrid have an energy cost of $3.49 per mile. Compare that to a regular Accord, at $2.18, or a Hummer H3, at $1.98, and that green vehicle taxes the environment more.

Because toyota last longer than american crap. Ive thrown so much more at my tacoma since i know it can take it, my 03 RAM 1500 broke down on us sooo many times (and i did take care of it), my tacoma hasnt caused any problems at all.
Anyways, the tundra is a amazing truck and id prefer it anyday. (i wish i got it instead of my tacoma lol)

I love my 08 Camry, it replaced my old 92 Nissan Maxima which it was a P.O.S my camry has a good working radio, CD player, its bigger than my old nissan, and it gets better gas mileage, 24 in city, 30 with A/C on, 26/ in city, 33 MPG with my A/C turned off. here's my niccle advice, if you wan't better gas mileage, maintain between 60-65 Miles Per Gallon, another word, pacient is the key for better mileage

I like the Camry better than the Prius. I've been in both, and the Camry is more like what I'm used to. Prius looks kinda like a space ship on the inside, haha. Not as much room as the Camry, though.

I disagree. If you want all out gas mileage and don't care about comfort or style the Geo Metro fits the bill. Excellent gas mileage but not really easy on the eyes. Don't get me wrong, the Prius is a good car. It's just pricey. Really though, a hybrid Camry and a Prius is an unfair comparision. The Prius is an economy car, the Camry, is well, a Camry with better gas mileage. The Hybrid Camry is also an excellent car.
My mom has a 2002 Toyota Camry and they had to fix something on the car so they gave her the 2009 Camry Hybrid. When I got into the car it was very weird, it was also extremely quiet too. Anyway I got in and to those folks who don't know they don't have a key, just put your foot on the brakes, hit the start button and put it in gear. It's an interesting car, doesn't accelerate like her 02 Camry but all in all I like it. I wouldn't buy it for myself but my fiance would love it!
Brand new Prius = $27,000 (or more) for 45mpg at best.
Used Geo Metro = under $4k for well over 50mpg.

yes it was on Top Gear, can't deny that it got better milage though. BMW have introduced his on all new models, it called efficient dynamics, the enigne switches off and on when the car is stopped i.e. at traffic lights, i maybe didnt explain it properly before.
I'm not sure if your educated enough to know this but BMW have inroduced their new "Efficient Dynamics" system on all cars meaning th the engine switches of when it is not needed and starts again when it is i.e. when sitting at a red light

Hybrids have killed people in accidents, the batteries explode and they don't save gas! Hybrids dont work because they are environmental. They need lots of repairs too. Better to wait for hydrogen and not doing anything until then. Hydrogen is made out of normal, regular fossil fuels so oil companies won't go bankrupt and hurt the economy and lose people's jobs. But if we buy hybrids, oil companies will lay everybody off and ipods will be too expensive. Think about JOBS not saving gas.

You seem to be forgetting that the prius DOES use petrol. of course petrol needs to be shipped and refined, what doesn't? The prius isn't overly good on fuel as it is, a diesel pug 206 will easily match it and be better for the environment. The prius has batteries, but still uses alot of fuel. Another point, you only need extra horsepower on exceleration! Where you need better mileage for the WHOLE trip. Not just taking off from the lights. Again, I drive a Prius full time, at 6 foot 3 inch, I am quite comfortable. The difference between 33 mpg and my usual 45 mpg is 12 mpg. Translation, I can go 120 miles further with the same amount for fuel! You want to count the times you floorboard the car as part of your buying experience? Go for it!

Depends, if you drive long distances on highways, a nice turbodiesel is more economic, and more comfortable. Prius is better for driving around town and if you happen to be in traffic jams a lot :) Now that is not a joke, many people waste good fuel in traffic jams so there is certainly gain to a hybrid, it's just not the means to all ends

manufacture/shipping of these batteries is far more wasteful and damaging to the environment than a petrol powered vehicle, do some research people and see for yourselves. Electric cars are a farce, hydrogen or lpg is the only answer at this stage.

boo! mining, processing, shipping and assembling all the nickel and other material needed to make Prius batteries made a lot more pollution than a petrol cars would before it is made. so before the Prius is made, it would have done all the damage to our environment before it tries to save it.

hybrids like the Honda Accord Hybrid have an energy cost of $3.49 per mile. Compare that to a regular Accord, at $2.18, or a Hummer H3, at $1.98, and that green vehicle taxes the environment more.

Because toyota last longer than american crap. Ive thrown so much more at my tacoma since i know it can take it, my 03 RAM 1500 broke down on us sooo many times (and i did take care of it), my tacoma hasnt caused any problems at all.
Anyways, the tundra is a amazing truck and id prefer it anyday. (i wish i got it instead of my tacoma lol)

I love my 08 Camry, it replaced my old 92 Nissan Maxima which it was a P.O.S my camry has a good working radio, CD player, its bigger than my old nissan, and it gets better gas mileage, 24 in city, 30 with A/C on, 26/ in city, 33 MPG with my A/C turned off. here's my niccle advice, if you wan't better gas mileage, maintain between 60-65 Miles Per Gallon, another word, pacient is the key for better mileage

Toyotas flaws are more public becasue out news is controlled by the Big Companies and when Toyota out sold them in cash for clunkers they had to respond. Also the only Toyotas effected were the ones built in America. the Japanese models have had none of these problems.

I disagree. If you want all out gas mileage and don't care about comfort or style the Geo Metro fits the bill. Excellent gas mileage but not really easy on the eyes. Don't get me wrong, the Prius is a good car. It's just pricey. Really though, a hybrid Camry and a Prius is an unfair comparision. The Prius is an economy car, the Camry, is well, a Camry with better gas mileage. The Hybrid Camry is also an excellent car.

My mom has a 2002 Toyota Camry and they had to fix something on the car so they gave her the 2009 Camry Hybrid. When I got into the car it was very weird, it was also extremely quiet too. Anyway I got in and to those folks who don't know they don't have a key, just put your foot on the brakes, hit the start button and put it in gear. It's an interesting car, doesn't accelerate like her 02 Camry but all in all I like it. I wouldn't buy it for myself but my fiance would love it!

yes it was on Top Gear, can't deny that it got better milage though. BMW have introduced his on all new models, it called efficient dynamics, the enigne switches off and on when the car is stopped i.e. at traffic lights, i maybe didnt explain it properly before.

Hybrids have killed people in accidents, the batteries explode and they don't save gas! Hybrids dont work because they are environmental. They need lots of repairs too. Better to wait for hydrogen and not doing anything until then. Hydrogen is made out of normal, regular fossil fuels so oil companies won't go bankrupt and hurt the economy and lose people's jobs. But if we buy hybrids, oil companies will lay everybody off and ipods will be too expensive. Think about JOBS not saving gas.

How much better is a Camry Hybrid on fuel consumption than a regular Camry which gets great gas mileage anyway? How much better is the fuel consumption of a Prius to that of a Golf Diesel or any other Volkswagen TDI that gets up to 48 miles per gallon highway and far superior performance? Again, I drive a Prius full time, at 6 foot 3 inch, I am quite comfortable. The difference between 33 mpg and my usual 45 mpg is 12 mpg. Translation, I can go 120 miles further with the same amount for fuel! You want to count the times you floorboard the car as part of your buying experience? Go for it!

I would be doing better, I have gotten 50mpg on expressway, but I have a VERY heavy foot. I usually am way out in front of ALL traffic except the occasional Corvette or Subaru Zoom machine. Most times I can beat most cars in traffic because of size. Plus the Camry is $5000.00 more! So, Edmonds, stick it!

You know what I find funny (not LOL) is that I see so many Prius drivers hauling butt on the Interstate here, doing 75 or 80+ in the HOV lane, while some of us are trying to conserve and drive the 65 limit. Why would anyone spend the time or money to purchase one of these cars when their fuel economy is getting sucked out the tailpipe? A lot better cars out there with similar economy. BTW, the poster that suggested an Impala. Rented one for vacation, actually it was a pretty nice car.

The Prius is still ugly and the Camry is not the answer. It only get in the 30+ range in MPG. My Grand Prix get 30 mpg on the freeway.
I'll still wait for a Plug In Electic car!!

If you don't want to pollute the world lift your right foot. At the same speed a Prius can suck more petrol than a BMW M3 saloon, if you drive like a mad. Anyway producing such cars and put them together in several parts of the world makes a looooot of pollution more than a normal car. It's not worth it

HYDRID's are dumb, way too expensive, and still use gas.
a proper 1000 -1300lbs car with a small engine could get 50-70mpg maybe more
and doesn't have be ugly.
bottom line is hybrid was cooked by oil and car company's to appear they care and are working on it. they will also brigg about
how much they spent on technology.

Yep i agree remember the Honda CRX HF small car not to bad looking for the time it was made and it got 50 miles per gallon. Why not make something similar and cheap.
But if you got the money and don't wanna pollute the earth i would get a prius.

still heavier then what was suggesting
a 1300lbs. car could feel fast and still get 70+mpg. probably alot more then that.

These hybrids are rather expensive($20k & up). If you are in a budget and want a fuel efficient car, I reckon that you buy the Yaris or a used Corolla or Civic. These cars are good, but it will be a while before they pay back!
