You can always count on YouTube comments to present the bottom of the barrel of society. Racism is so ugly. This performance was incredible. Open your minds.
To all those, who'd felt; 'Fela' was unimpressive and short of Broadway standards: And, equally, to those who felt it was arguably the best they'd seen on Broadway...I say, you' re both right. LIVE AND LET LIVE...AND LIVE TO LEARN. For me 'FELA' was a perfect unleashing, and apt energetic representation of an African Cultural and Political View. [The Globe is not defined by one stanza...but by many].
@matt13r1 You know what,as a Nigerian I totally agree with you! Fela is very well known in Africa,Caribbean,South America,Europe,Australia,but NOT in America. This whole concept I believe was just a money making venture by Will Smith and JAY Z who are new to his music,and see him as a 'pro black,anti white' figure head which he was not! They are trying to imbibe him into the whole hip-hop culture,whose antics are very far from his.His show is opening in London soon that will be a different story
You guys don't know Broadway. You're too Racist and closed minded to know about true Broadway. Like FELA . You guys need to GTFO. Have you seen the fucking show? I didn't think so. Broadway isn't always Phantom, RENT, N2N and Wicked. No Doubt I love those shows too, but it's show like these that come once in a life time.
no offense but i can't believe how ignorant a lot of you are being. this show is about a culture different from ours and it is about a person that many people should know about. don't criticize it because it's not glamorous like a b'way show is today. it is purely authentic to the culture and the coreography is based on how people in that part of Africa dance. before you criticize something take the time to know what you're criticizing
@leasolanga i know what i'm talking about... i live in nigeria for 3 years and these people have no idea what they are doing... do african dance like a monkey??? no they don't... that is why i hate this show not because its not glamorous but because the culture is not portrayed well and this guy FELA is a masochist...
@scorpioninpink I agree...they totally glossed over his weaknesses as a man (Im Nigerian-American). I've been influenced by my parents generation (King Sunny Ade), and a few current musicians (Lagbaja etc)
Fela! is leaving broadway and I guess it goes to show that if u do a show with big name producers about a guy who not a lot of ppl know about it won't do well
Its an idiotic show, save your money and time. I doubt even the actors have any idea what the hell they're doing. Will Smith was involved in it, so its typical that it sucks.
@allsoladarity Let's not kid ourselves. I've SEEN Fela! on Broadway and it failed to impress me. Compared to shows like Hair, Memphis and Next to Normal, this show is just a joke. The way you talk, you're an actor on the show...chill out, yeah? I'm just telling you what I got from that show...which is very little.
this music is so much fun!!! i mean you can tell the performers are reallenjoying it! Fela! is one of my favorites for the musicals that came out this season!
@scorpioninpink True. It's very difficult to cut one number cleanly out of this show for this kind of preview thing. The whole show,however is outstanding and TIGHT.

to me, Lilias White was the standout in this performance, I just stopped and stared whenever she started singing

@somethingswicked
Actually its supposed to be reminiscent of Fela's actual performances why don't you take a look there are videos all over youtube
Its suppose to be "everywhere" so know wtf you're talking about before you insult the dancers and actors.....because they work damn hard thanks!!

Well I guess some people are more into "the norm" than something different, whatever the case we can agree to disagree....not an actor by the way
