Brilliant this is honestly the best Holophonic audio Ive heard in a while, and when I opened my eyes for the video the second time round it made it even more amazing. Brilliantly done Keep up the good work XD
@inferno596 i wondered this myself until i realised i was looking intoa reflection, when ti ges to his'left ear' its actually a reflection of his right ear, hence you hear it in your right ear
For those who don't know, binaural IS stereo, but it's recorded by getting a hollowed out dummy head and putting the microphones in the ear canals for recording.. This allows stereo sound to be recorded in the same manner as you would actually hear it in person. That's why binaural stereo sounds 3D. You have to use headphones because they are separate speakers, and "out loud" speakers overlap their sound waves in the air and messes up the effect. It's basically just stereo in that case.
Well... Audio quality is incredible, left/right effect is just great, but I have the impression that front/rear depth is working too slightly to being noticed, hence the simple stereo sound impression. And there's no up/down depth.
There's a free App for iPhone/iPod (3D Aduio Illusions) wich plays some holophonic audio clips, and it's so well made you can really guess the position of the audio source. Not only left/right or front/rear, but also up/down. It's incredible.
@Freekchild No. The ball was rendered in a 3D application and the man in front was just masked out and put onto the scene were they were moving objects.
@arkamys Yes, I know how binaural recording works. But the ball seems to bounce in very particular (and very unlikely places), repeatedly. I assume either drums were set up in those locations, or the ball that is bouncing defies physics.
It's easy to see how they did this. They just placed drums in the places where they wanted the ball to "bounce" and they repeatedly hit them in the right order. Then the video was made. It's simple really.
I'm afraid many folks today are a bit jaded by the average experience of biaural sound in video games, movies, and even many modern TV shows. No one with a home theater system is going to "ooh and ah" that the sound in this video followed the bouncing ball or other things happening on screen. The point however was accurately demonstrated that one may increase the illusion of "being in the room" observing by splitting up the sounds directionally to either ear to match motion or location.
Guys this is incredible! It shows that is not about playing the sound but recording it. Even trough using some cheap headphones one can get incredible quality for brain's judgement of quality is something very funny.
While it IS holophonic...it doesn't seem the effect was done quite as good as other videos/audio i've seen/heard. It's not bad, but it doesn't really "feel" like there's ACTUALLY a ball bouncing around behind me or anything. It just isn't done real great. Maybe the speakers were too close, or too far away from each other? Not sure, but it's just not done "great".
binaural is stereo. it's an effect for headphone use and always uses 2 channels. it can't anything other than stereo since we only have 2 ears.
if by stereo you mean that it is just a panning from the left to right ear, i can assure you that it is not since i saw the guys who made it moving speakers around a dummy head.
HAHA!! Excellent binaural video. What mics were used for this and what software? I like how you got the animated ball to sync with the sound. I assume you recorded the sound first..? Anyways, brilliant.
When listening to this video over headphones you will hear the sounds (notably the holophonic ball) coming from all around you. This is an audio effect that is generated by sound engineers and the like and an effect you will not get when listening normally over headphones
Yes, definitely reminiscent of the Dharma videos (especially those that showed the clips of the parapsychological testing) and Sprite's "sublymonal" ads.
lol the guy in the back at 2:06 throws the nail up and hammers it to the wall, dont know if its staged and the nail is already in the wall but i thought it was pretty cool.
with a good surround sound stereo you can mimic headphones' bianural ability very accurately

@SeymourDrayton really, holophonic sounds dont really give that good of a front/behind feel at all.

Binarual recording only really gives you sound BEHIND you, hence the mirror effect. Still a clever use of the medium. Love it.

I found the visual performance to be more impressive than the auditory. Sound stage for me was about 2ft from head on average.
