  • Is this Live DVD for sale somewhere? I'd love to be able to listen to "Claroscuro" (which is on RB's "Live!" Tape but not the CD)?

  • @eantoranz Yes it is. Look for a DVD called "Caliente y Picante: A Latino Session" It's on Amazon.

  • Nothin' left to do but smile, smile smile........

    Jer-EEE Don't worry -Be Happy!

  • Ruben Blades is just an awesome awesome awesome talent. It doesn't matter what language you speak; watch him perform and you know this.

  • Too bad Jerry didn't take better care of him self. He was very curious musically, and probably would have done more things like this.

The happiest I ever saw him was in the late 60's and early 70's with the Grateful Dead.

  • Jerry looked happy.

  • looks like a cruise ship dinner. but with jerry. can i go?

  • Garcia almost looks as happy as when he played with the Grateful Dead

  • This song is called Meuvete,Muevete ::starts song::

    Oh yeah,Jerry Garcia's here too

  • A fabulous video! Imagine being at that concert?

  • THIS IS MINDBLOWING - I MEAN JUST F#####G INCREDIBLE. AT THE 5:45 POINT GARCIA TAKES OVER AND BLOWS THE ROOM AWAY. THIS IS A GREAT GROUP OF MUSICIANS. IT ROCKS BIG TIME MAN !

  • Peace love!!!

  • Wow what a treat to Jerry w/ Reuben. Brings a tear to my eye to see Jerry so alive and happy. Really miss that guy. Thanks for posting this. Made my day!

  • LOVE IT!!

  • I think Jerry would have liked to have been just a member of the band. Not having people so dependent on him for a living. He looks so happy like this. B?}>>

  • @dancingrizz yet he spent his off time fronting The Jerry Garcia Band.

  • 2 legends!

  • grande maestro ruben

  • the conga player SUCKS....

  • At 2:39, what is the keyboard player using in his mouth while he plays?

Thanks so much for posting this, btw. I remember setting a tape to record this show back when it was on in...1990(?)

  • i love it. well it sent my cat haywire too :-)

  • I freakin been perma grinning since 5:30

  • I bump dis in da whip.

  • this is totally freaking awesome!!! thank you monsieur JASPITZ...

  • my heart sings watching jerry play in this video. he's so happy and so alive in the music even my 4 yr old see's it..." jerry's really happy eh dad?..." lmao you know it's a good thing when that happens RIP jerry

  • jerry truly is happy in this performance. another glimpse into the real musician jerry really was..willing to play his heart out on any occasion.

  • Thanks to ColdSmoke for knowing what's up! I remember this when it came out and I was mistaken I thought it was at the Ambassador. There is more of this! So far I'm surprised I found this, since I expected the first or worse, the only thing from this I'd find which I still haven't yet is 'Fire on the Mountain' with Carlos Santana, Armando Peraza, Tito Puente (maybe wrong w/ him memory?), for sure Linda Ronstadt. Too bad Rubén Blades doesn't play more guitar when he performs, he's actually good!

  • True that. Had he rested the Dead and got back to roots, well, who knows. If anyone can post a clip of him playing better or having so much obvious fun, I 'd like to see it.

Well, maybe those Los Lobos sessions.. but still..

  • Oh YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Pure joy, great stuff, watching this at midnight and im goin to have to play it again and dance. Brilliant.. add any superlatives you like, this is IT!!!!!!!

  • I had this on VHS too. . . . some 15 years ago, maybe more now . . . I loaned it to my sister-in-law and she lost it . . . It was a great show with an All-Star cast of Latino musicians . . . Jerry played his butt off on his solo with some heavy jazz riffs . . . A beautiful gathering of some of the best Latino musicians from Latin America for a good cause . . .

  • How about that Jerry guitar shred at 6:17 and the huge smile! Pure joy in music and collaboration.

  • como los van van nadie canta esa cancion

  • Muevete Escossia! Hahaha

    Move it, Scotland ;-)

  • Holy shit! This one of those moments in which I love Youtube. To be able to watch this is just waaay too awesome. Rubén Blades and Jerry García, both, being real icons and sharing a stage like this. No doubt this is one of most memorable moments in music. And Jerry fits perfectly in the latin combo!... And BTW what is it with people saying is Charly García? It is clearly Jerry UP THE DEAD!

  • This is awesome. I had this video on VHS 15 years ago. This is the first time i've seen it since. Jerrry seems at home with his latino amigos.

  • @all those thinking he says "Charly" instead of "Jerry" - He doesn't say Charly. Ruben rolls his R's very heavily and you're mistaking that for him saying Charly. But listen closely... he's definitely saying Jerry. At any rate, this is absolutely great stuff. Jerry's energy, confidence in a different musical form, and sheer joy is fantastic (as his is solo). And Ruben is awesome - so's his band.

  • @electraglow

Well said electra. I would like to further point out that Jerry is not at all struggling here to those that think he is. It is clear they rehearsed this. Jerry had the knowledge and smarts to keep his sound low for much of the song. It's not his song. So he keeps it low. I bet there you could hear him more too.

Anyway, this is pure killer music and Jerry is in first rate form. I watch this damn near every day since I found it.

  • go jerry!

  • wooooow dude this is awesome! if you guys don't get up with this rythm i don't know!

come on that's it that's it that's it! move yourself panama move yourself puerto rico mexico usa guatemala hondura nicaragua ARGENTINA!!!! come on guys forget us about problems and let's enjoy the life!

  • this band pushed Jerry to the limit...you can see he´s having so much fun and wanted to express it..a great band!! if you move or play to it, it makes you feel livin´ forever in that groove...yeah..

  • 0:14 he said charly garcia... no jerry :S ... charly garcia is the one of the best music in latinoamerica....from Argentina....

  • @Sublime3898 you have not spent any time around anyone that is from any spanish decent. he say's Jerry! Why would he charlie??? he is not even playing with them. Jerry is!!!

  • Magnificent jam session! Thanks for sharing! It's great to see Jerry Garcia having such a good time with other musicians!

  • brutal

  • right

  • dale tio

  • spanish hippies

  • This is an example of what Eddie Palmieri calls THE SUN OF LATIN MUSIC. If you hear this and you don't want to get up and dance, well... you are probably dead.

  • Uno de los mejores compositores latinoamericanos de todos los tiempos, duélale a quien le duela.

  • Jerry seems to be having more fun here than in most dead shows I saw.

  • donde fue este concierto?

do anybody know where was this concert? tremendo sabor

  • @gds506 Panama

  • yeah Jerr!

    muevete!!!!!!

  • lmao..the guy sitting right in front of the stage at the table with his hands on his knees barely moving is cracking me up @ 4:21.....what a nob....lol

  • yeah, a guy just sitting there listening to music -- along with half the room -- what is wrong with him?!?

  • MUEVETE ARGENTINA!! YAHOOO

  • Arturo Ortiz on synthesizer is such a beast!!

  • Great!

Que bacano, hace rato no oia esta vaina

  • badass song, me encanta esta vaina

  • Funny how when Jerry is introduced no one seemed to know who he was or care.

  • WOW...what a thick full sound...

  • Anyone know what the instrument is that the keyboard player plays with his mouth at about 2:44?

  • Garcia looks like hes having more fun than he ever did with the Grateful Dead....

  • That was my thought exactly.

  • totally different Garcia

  • @flukedoos yeah you notice too that ruben says charly garcia ?

  • @deinielCOBOS No, He is saying Jerry Garcia; albeit with a Spanish (Panamanian/ Nuevo Yorquino) accent.

  • @TitoandSmokey

    Agree!

  • @TitoandSmokey you really think the dead would have lasted as long or as strong as they would have played this way, no way!! plus i like the peggy o, brokedown palace feel the best anywase.. this song rocks thow made me cry with joy when garcia started in to his solo!!

  • @TitoandSmokey no pressure ... works every time! ;-)

  • @TitoandSmokey after all, jerry was a mexican

  • @assquark he wasnt mexican he was spanish irish and swedish nonetheless latin great musician though:)

  • @TitoandSmokey Jerry always had fun ;-)

  • @TitoandSmokey In his later years, he was very much more invested in other projects but he felt alot of guilt about not necessarily wanting to be int he Dead as much because much of the organization was staffed by personal friends and family. It shows too. His work in the JGB and with Grisman is way more inspired than alot of his work onstage witht he dead in those times, though he had his moments with the old band too.

  • Ruben Blades Presidente de Latinoamerica!!!

  • Apoyo la mocion

  • classic how everybody is dressed nice cept jerrbear , who is schlubbin it up as usual

  • Que buenA rola, esta vien rifada.

  • Its always great to see Jerry smile.

  • thats cause playing with the dead was his job. who like being at work ?

  • muchas grasias. muy bien. love this, great share// nice. muy cliente!

  • Jerry isnt latino , but whats wrong with a little cultural mixxxxxxxxxx

  • (Wikipedia) -- Jerry Garcia's ancestry was Galician, Irish, and Swedish.[6] He was born in San Francisco, California, on August 1, 1942, to Jose Ramon "Joe" Garcia and Ruth Marie "Bobbie" (née Clifford).[7][8][9] His father was a retired professional musician and his mother enjoyed playing the piano.[7] His father's extended family—who had emigrated from Spain in 1919—would often sing during reunions.[13]

  • Beautiful to see Jerry Garcia getting in touch with his latin half! the solo would make Carlitos Santana proud! very cool and unique video of a great song, that by the way talks about Latin American unity! sweeeeet!
