  • i am having the same problem on a Ford Focus Turnier 1.6 Petrol.

i went to local Ford service and told me that the gauges board it's broken and need to be replaced. but i'm not sure that they are wright about that. i'm not sure what they check or not.

    a new gauges board it's ~550 euro.

  • gearbox sensor, fixed mine straight away :)

  • only in a ford

  • turn your car off and hold the button on the gauge. it should go to test and all the dials go to the top for a couple seconds and down to the bottom. you can also see different things on the trip computer. hope thus helps.

  • i have a similar problum with my focus 2.0 with zetec the gauges all drop off like it lost power and the car dies any ideas what could cause that

  • its a ford is why

  • @andlys VSS vehicle speed sensor needs changing

  • I have 1.4 zetec engine and the speedo will suddenly just drop to nothing and then with-in a few seconds it sorts its self out. I have no idea why it does it, but it doesnt seem to loose any power whilst driving. Any Ideas would be great help? Cheers.

  • @GizzyB666 I have exactly the same problem did you mange to fix it?

  • @GizzyB666 VSS

  • that is NOT something you see everyday! lol

i know how you feel! i too have owned a lemon!

    no electrical problems just mechanical!

  • hmm thats not somthing u see every day

  • Hi, I managed to sort this problem. I did the following:

Removed speedo casing from dashboard, then checked on the back of the circuit board for the speedo, and there was a buildup of what looked like black dust on the back of the board. Cleaned that off, put speedo back in dashboard and its worked perfectly ever since!

    Thanks for the suggestions though.

  • When researching this I found a couple of other things it could have been: Apparently the wires going to the heat sensor next to the spark plugs can be affected by the high voltage of the HT leads if they are too close. Also check the grounds under the trim on the A pillar.

  • Had a similar problem with my focus but I don't think everything went dead, just the speedo and the mileage. Turns out it was the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the back of the gearbox. I just cleaned the connector and sensor contacts and its been fine since.

  • have you reset it? all you do to do it is press the little milage botton and turn the car on while pressing the botton an wait for a few seconds. you'll see everything go nuts for a second.

  • i have the same problem with my focus, check your ground wires. If you've added a deck and such you need to get more ground straight from the chassis.
