  • Nice rendition!

  • god dammit this is just tasteful.

  • Do you tune the acoustic to open A? cuase im scared to snap my b string

  • I have a question if anyone knows: when playin i open g do you allways play the G ,C & D chord blues, i mean you never go up to like A, D, E or whatever? know what I mean? great playin by the way :)

  • sweet man! i'll definately hit up the how to's..

perform it at college in front of 20 metalheads hahaa!!

  • I like this. i really do, actually because of your simple camera i've actually learned the majority of this song, but you haven't mentioned the original author anywhere in the tags or description =(

  • @IamDUFF I just assume everyone knows it's a Son House song, given it's a blues standard. I can add it, though.

  • oh dear god! notes (or tabs) PLEASE!!!!

  • @jakesmoge Search my vids. I have two tutorials for this song.

  • Wow, that is one of the best versions of Death Letter / Grinnin' in Your Face. Thanks for sharing. Inspirational.

  • god man i learned so much from just watching this thanks ! facebookme benmoss777

  • good stuff man. i like it

  • sounds good, Son House be proud

  • One word: damn.

I know you were covering this from what Jack did in his live versions, but I think you should have done the entire song, grinning in you face, you did it pretty well the first time.

  • this goes as one of my favorite videos ever AMAZING!!

  • wow!!! I wanna play it like you...

    ;(;(

You're the best, right behind Jack :D

  • this was a really good cover what's the tunning?

  • @mclosed

    Open G in this one.

  • nice cover and nice voice

  • did you change your slide style halfway through?

  • are there a type of strings that sound better with a slide? because my guitar sounds terrible with it.. then again it could just be that im a shitty guitarist.. any suggestions

btw your my favorite youtube covers channel im really enjoying all the white stripes vids

  • Nice cover wonderlure.

you have the beat wrong though for the main riff...listen to pinkpanther997's version and see that the beat is wrong

    good job though

  • nicely done fella, i'd like to see you get yourself on an electric..i think the raw sound of open d on an electric would compliment your voice. im gona post a vid soon id appreciate some feedback. cheers

  • Totally fantastic. Nice job.

  • BADASS

  • Awesome! you killed it! i was looking around for a lesson on how to play this...listening to your vid was a great 4:50 though.

  • i'm trying to learn this song please can you send me an e-mail with the chords and notes :D!!!???

  • excellent cover! do you have tabs for your intro, if so where did you get them?

  • @trey628: No tabs. Just some riffs and whatnot based a bit on how Jack does his various intros. I took some influence from alexjippo's cover, too. :)

  • how do u tune a guitar to open G?

  • Low to High:

    DGDGBD

Drop the low E and the A, leave 3rd, 4th and 5th the same, drop high E.

    It will sound awesome.

  • thank you, im new to tunings other than the standard E

  • Great job man, this song is so much fun to play! I love how you get right into it, to many covers are just robotron people hitting every note exactly, I much prefer it rough around the edges.

  • Thanks--I'm glad you like my go at it.

  • Well done!

  • Wow.

  • this is awesome, i need to get a guitar slide so bad

  • haha as of now an old shot glass will have to work

  • A slide is generally under $5--well worth it. :)

  • literally just picked one up 20 mins ago, i'm having so much fun with this haha. this video really sealed the deal in me wanting to get into playing guitar with a slide, so thanks alot man!

  • Awesome man.

I've watched a few of your videos you're pretty good :D!

This one is awesome though, your vocals are like right in the middle of Jack White and Son House.

    Awesome Job!

  • Thanks! :D

  • Mate that is fannytastic. I came across your vid yesterday grabbed me open D tuned guitar, re-tuned and jammed along. I now feel like Jack White without a back porch so I will have to gig this soon and put up with eveyone grinning in my face. Cheers fella!

  • hmm...

  • excellent man

  • hey there my friend any chance of slowing all that down for me and other youtubers in the form of a lesson. thats one of the coolest videos on you tube and ive gotta learn it ;-)

  • Already done, hombre. Go to my page and search my videos for "Death Letter"--you'll see I have a tutorial in two parts for this song. Enjoy! :)

  • thanks very much my friend. I appreciate it :-)

  • Brass slides always do the job!

  • It's made by Son House (:

  • AWESOME very very cool :D

  • Bravo, AWESOME cover. A light went off for me too; I've been trying to get these chords down and even tried the tunings, but I forgot about the finger slide. What did you use for it, or did you go out an find one?

  • Thanks. The slide is a Dunlop medium brass.

  • Dude that was really cool! I've actually learned something from you! Jack White does rock and your acoustic version is really good.

  • Thanks. :)

  • Are you holding a pick in this one?

    If so, awesome!

How do I make a slide like that?

  • Yes, pick. I bought the slide. Also, this is the slide version (open G)--did you see the standard tuning version I tried to direct you to (on the classical guitar?)

  • good job , i am trying to play it ,shouldent it be in open e though ,what do u think ?

  • No. "I Fought Piranhas", "Let's Build a Home", and "Suzy Lee" are all in Open E. "Death Letter" is played by Jack in Open A (mine is Open G on this acoustic), as are songs like "I Want to Be the Boy" and "Little Bird".

    Thanks for watching!

  • Awesome !

    I'll learn this.

Update tutorial to this if you have the time. That's just awesome

  • Okay. I might do a tutorial. I don't do a lot of them, but it seems like a few folks are interested enough in this one. It will probably be up in Feb sometime.

  • Ho Thanks !

    So kind. :)

  • Open G :) I should learn to read :)

  • Woohoo :) Always wanted to know how to play this on acoustic with the slide :D Cheers dude :) Although dunno the tuning? What are you in? Open E? Or am I just being stoopid? lol

  • You should definitely post a tutorial to this, great job man

  • You know, after every one of your covers I'm left asking myself: "How can he possibly top this one?" -- well, again that's the case here, and then some. Amazing work.

I also loved the tapping during Grinnin' In Your Face. It really captured the Blues feeling that was so clear in Son House's version. Again, amazing.

  • Thanks! My guitar is pretty solid, but I was pounding on it with a closed fist trying to keep that open chord ringing...I did have the briefest of thoughts that maybe it wasn't a good idea, but it always seems to take the abuse I give it...must be the mahogany. ;)

  • Great job!

  • very good m8 :) what is your guitar tuned to? cheers

  • holy crap! thats awesome!
