I have a question if anyone knows: when playin i open g do you allways play the G ,C & D chord blues, i mean you never go up to like A, D, E or whatever? know what I mean? great playin by the way :)
I like this. i really do, actually because of your simple camera i've actually learned the majority of this song, but you haven't mentioned the original author anywhere in the tags or description =(
I know you were covering this from what Jack did in his live versions, but I think you should have done the entire song, grinning in you face, you did it pretty well the first time.
are there a type of strings that sound better with a slide? because my guitar sounds terrible with it.. then again it could just be that im a shitty guitarist.. any suggestions
btw your my favorite youtube covers channel im really enjoying all the white stripes vids
nicely done fella, i'd like to see you get yourself on an electric..i think the raw sound of open d on an electric would compliment your voice. im gona post a vid soon id appreciate some feedback. cheers
Great job man, this song is so much fun to play! I love how you get right into it, to many covers are just robotron people hitting every note exactly, I much prefer it rough around the edges.
literally just picked one up 20 mins ago, i'm having so much fun with this haha. this video really sealed the deal in me wanting to get into playing guitar with a slide, so thanks alot man!
Mate that is fannytastic. I came across your vid yesterday grabbed me open D tuned guitar, re-tuned and jammed along. I now feel like Jack White without a back porch so I will have to gig this soon and put up with eveyone grinning in my face. Cheers fella!
hey there my friend any chance of slowing all that down for me and other youtubers in the form of a lesson. thats one of the coolest videos on you tube and ive gotta learn it ;-)
Bravo, AWESOME cover. A light went off for me too; I've been trying to get these chords down and even tried the tunings, but I forgot about the finger slide. What did you use for it, or did you go out an find one?
Yes, pick. I bought the slide. Also, this is the slide version (open G)--did you see the standard tuning version I tried to direct you to (on the classical guitar?)
No. "I Fought Piranhas", "Let's Build a Home", and "Suzy Lee" are all in Open E. "Death Letter" is played by Jack in Open A (mine is Open G on this acoustic), as are songs like "I Want to Be the Boy" and "Little Bird".
Okay. I might do a tutorial. I don't do a lot of them, but it seems like a few folks are interested enough in this one. It will probably be up in Feb sometime.
Woohoo :) Always wanted to know how to play this on acoustic with the slide :D Cheers dude :) Although dunno the tuning? What are you in? Open E? Or am I just being stoopid? lol
You know, after every one of your covers I'm left asking myself: "How can he possibly top this one?" -- well, again that's the case here, and then some. Amazing work.
I also loved the tapping during Grinnin' In Your Face. It really captured the Blues feeling that was so clear in Son House's version. Again, amazing.
Thanks! My guitar is pretty solid, but I was pounding on it with a closed fist trying to keep that open chord ringing...I did have the briefest of thoughts that maybe it wasn't a good idea, but it always seems to take the abuse I give it...must be the mahogany. ;)
geez! that's realllllly good. <3

@IamDUFF I just assume everyone knows it's a Son House song, given it's a blues standard. I can add it, though.

excellent cover! do you have tabs for your intro, if so where did you get them?
trey628 2 years ago
@trey628: No tabs. Just some riffs and whatnot based a bit on how Jack does his various intros. I took some influence from alexjippo's cover, too. :)

how do u tune a guitar to open G?
Mexicanorockr 2 years ago
Low to High:
DGDGBD
Drop the low E and the A, leave 3rd, 4th and 5th the same, drop high E.
It will sound awesome.
WonderLure42 2 years ago
thank you, im new to tunings other than the standard E
