seeker447 - Yes, but from a "spoiled" rich girl who is clearly able to see herself and her dysfunctional family for what it is - very common. I just finished her book and find her humor and her candor very refreshing. We are the same age and although I do not come from the sort of money she does, I can relate to her. I find many people who diss the rich are often very ignorant of the struggles they have. To whom much is given, much is required - and this goes for anyone across the board.
A tough book to read. The first 30 are a killer in spots. A brave woman wrote this and the battle scars are evident. Why she didn't write before this is puzzling to me. And Despite her physical age, she's definitely a hottie, with her trademark 60's hairdo. Just finished the Cornelius bio "The First Tycoon," a great start, although there are other fine ones. I've often been to Vanderbilt estates, Biltmore, Centerport, "Lost New York" also comes to mind. Ms. Burden's revelations are dazzling.
Wendy, I knew your mother when I was an earnest young student at Harvard, 30 years ago. We worked side by side in close quarters at the Sardis Expedition. We were just a few, and a couple of us were actually quite fond of her. She was only ever kind and generous to me, and I saw a certain pathos in her. I've thought of Leslie many times since. I laugh and cringe at the excerpts I've read of your book, and I look forward to reading it through. I would love to speak one day. Conyers Thompson

I enjoyed your book very much. The only thing that could have made it better were pictures of all the characters...

Hope you do well.........sound like you are a survivor. It is correct to say money doesn't solve everything.
Good luck.
