Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but: I'm so used to Bartoli (who's just fabulous, as the kids these days say, she's "got mad skills") doing baroque, art songs, & Rosina sung by a soprano. Meanwhile, Terfel, I feel, is more suited to Wagner. Never, never Rossini! How he pulled off Mozart is baffling. Forgive me, but he left me cringing on this one...
Such acting in classical music, for me, lacks taste. I would like it done in a more discrete way. Don't be hatin' it's just my opinion. Besides, that Bryn guy has more nerve than skills, to go on stage and sing like he did.
When he started to sing the coloratura I thought I was going to fall over. I cannot believe noone tried to stop him from singing this piece by telling him that the fioriture are beyond his limitations. Ghastly!
@Lindow Well it's a less rigid setting than an opera proper. I love recitals like this where you can see singers take on pieces they would never sing in real life. They're having fun, I'm having fun, don't see how that is bad.
@Lindow Don't be silly.... He knows it's beyond him. He's doing it as part of the fun of the evening and to show off a great talent who he enjoys performing with...
it depends on the weight of voice, and the weight of voice was different when this repertoire was written, and you have to respect the rosina's tempo.
Gosh Bryn goes crazy and then Cecilia follows!!!!!
Like, most of the time it's good, but then they're like, "Okay, it's the Tucker Gala, we're all singers, we all know we're good. Who the hell cares about technique???"

Bryn is a Bass-Baritone, Figaro is for a Lyric Baritone. The fact that he is singing it at all is strange. No one would argue that Bryn should sing Rossini Figaro.
Adorabile!

Why Is So Hard For The Bass-baritone Make Coloraturas Of Rossini And Vivaldi?
motete001 3 years ago
it depends on the weight of voice, and the weight of voice was different when this repertoire was written, and you have to respect the rosina's tempo.
JuillHope17 3 years ago 2
@motete001 Just a guess but it's probably physically easier to change pitches faster with smaller (i.e, higher pitched) vocal cords
zegermans750 1 year ago
@motete001 Samuel Ramey does impeccably in "L'Italiana In Aligeri"... (the one with M Horne & K Battle)

luigipava 3 years ago

Well...he's not ideal, and only the phrase with the fioritura kills him, the rest is really quite elegant. He phrases beautifully.

Cecilia...as always, a genius! What a incredible woman! Poor great (and big Bryn)! This was not for him however.
