I looked up the word "amount" in 3 different dictionaries. All of them said "how much there is or how many there are of something that you can quantify". It is perfectly normal to say "There was a large amount of pencils in his desk" or "there was a large amount of butter in the frig". Also, when an uncountable noun is thought of as being a normal portion or a type of something it can become countable. You can say "My favorite butters are Land O' Lakes and Margarine" or "2 coffees please".
Eight items or fewer. Hmm. Maybe the rules of rhythm are stronger here. Selling is an emotional field, after all.
In Hong Kong there is confusion between assignments and homework, words and (differently wrong) vocabulary. As in, 'We have three homeworks tonight and I need to put 6 new vocabularies in my vocab book'. I tell my kids to imagine homework is like air. Endless.
As I am an English Teacher myself, I would like to express my gratitude for your efforts. I use your videos quite frequently, and I have learned so much myself by watching them. So, please, keep up the good work and produce more videos of this kind. Thank you in advance. Massive respect from Germany...Thau
