No way in hell this is a Radeon 3100. Mine is a intergrated, so unless they come in two flavors, I don't think this could possibly be the same graphics card.

Always buy the parts and make it. Unless if your like me and need a monitor and got a super-good desktop pc with a good monitor for $500 at black friday and have a GPU and PSU to upgrade it with. TBH, 4850 suck. You should go for a 5770. They have direct X 11 and ARE more powerful but barley cost more. I can run Crysis, extreme xconfig 3.0 with natural mod, super-clocked 30-60 fps average. It runs EVERY game on the market right now, except for saints row 2 (even though it almost meets recommended specs) saints row 2 is horribly optimized and the worse port ever.

It can run older games basically MAXED. Ive had lots of fun in ubuntu linux maxing out every damn game on their! It will also run GTA IV.

If you want to game on it, GET WINDOWS 7. WINDOWS 7 gives you way more FPS, the best build is windows 7 ultimate FINAL AND vista drivers for "Ati radeon 3100"

Optimal settings lag it to 5-10 FPS

Yea get it. After installing windows 7 google "ATI drivers" And download the VISTA drivers.

Vista drivers work just as well, if not better in windows 7 than in vista.

although you have a point about it being good for the price, there are WAY too many flaws with it for it to even be free, they should pay you to use this card

1. it doesnt work with any linux os, and thats a major turn off

2. windows media player only plays damn audio cause the card and codec dont work or something or other

3. its a slight pain to get working on XP

4. theres no hardware acceleration

the list goes on but those are off the top of my head

yea you can, I recommend upgrading to 3Gb of RAM. 7 uses a BIT more than xp because it looks a LOT better. But it also performs better. Also, you have direct X 10/11 on seven when you only get 9 on XP
