  • Great American's Films!

    Heath Ledger

  • Shit American's Films!

  • @abcdefgohmygoodness Um, he didn't do THAT bad. Anyway, by "grieve" he meant like something "dark" or serious, rather than the "childish" or silly stuff that he says Japanese people like.

  • thats because after spiderman 3 japanese people lost faith in american comic book hero movies and they assume this movie was going to be like that also that is why they didn't watch it

  • i got to say exept that the cinema were i was watching this movie was playing the music and sounds way to loud it was just a normal movie that i could also watch in tv i mean its just for them who really dug into Batman

  • @johannes12021991 ..this did well to be honest due to the final performance of Heath Ledger. It put the film in another dimension of a critically acclaimed Box Office hit, which Harry Potter was most certainly not (it was a box office hit) and any acting Oscars? Right. So this EXCEPTIONAL film was unique, it's only flaw is that a 3rd chapter is going to be added, which will not remotely be as good.

  • @SuperOmnicron lol you're an idiot.

  • People dont like realistic movies in japan.. They like fantasy and cheesy stuff with lots of colors. lol

  • @o0zeroeffect0o

    I'm japanese.But I agree with you.And a lot of japanese like

movie of a childish, simple story. It should be grieve.

If I am misusing English, I'm sorry.

  • @syum79jodak Sorry to say, but you misused English so bad it's funny XDDD You tried though. What do you mean by "grieve"? 'Cuz now it's buggin' me D:

  • @syum79jodak Look the German Version. German is simple.

  • @o0zeroeffect0o

And Americans like emo shit that's all gray and black, has tons of slit wrists ,devoid of all personality and awfully generic music.

That or movies that are sex , blood and little story or plot or any combination thereof .

Realism is only good in films that need it and want to keep to the world, but it does not fit most films as is. Look at The Last Aribender and any series with supernatural and fantastic elements . It wouldn't be said series without Spiderman with webs.

  • @BigDogLtd .. No, they like films that have some realism, with good storytelling, AND they like films with little story and plenty of action. Its called exposition. They roadshow an action film, it gets a surge, then word-of-mouth and repeat business. Sequels are an expectation, so Saw worked the first 4 times, then it got old. The Last Airbender was ok, but it cross markets to children. That was the bonus of H.P., it marketed with adults and kids, and wasnt so dark.

  • @realworldis Do you think The Dark Knight was a childish movie?

Also, reality and unreality is irrelevent in a work of fiction.

  • i wonder how many people abroad the US liked it.

  • us in the UK loved it :)

  • The first and the best victory is to conquer self. MOVIEPRINCESS [ . ] COM

  • And beliieve me, Im playing a online game with international servers. Final Fantasy 11 that is. 60% of the playerbase are Japanese players. I know how they tick. A majority of them are generaly against anything foreign. I dont think they even gave Batman a chance.

Also you have to see that this movie was not at all like Spiderman. True Spiderman is all childish. Didnt liked it. Dont like much of DC or Marvel in general. But Batman is ok~ish and TDK is a good movie.

  • Ghibli *cough* Ghibli

No was it the Ring oringinals? Errr... Uzumaki??

No wait its.. sorry if i think of any Japanese Anime/Manga/Movie ("real" one) i only have crazy unrealistic stuff in mind. Maybe, if it comes to movies they are only like that in the horror-genre. I dont know.

But, yes i think they have their own big market filled with Games and Movies and whatnot and they just dont need anything made in EU or NA.

  • Lol. There is a lot of serious manga (they are called seinen). In fact I take manga genre as far more serious than comics that sadly had degraded to a joke in leotards except comics like Vertigo. (Superman is the most 1 dimensional character ever)

You have manga/anime like Berserk, Vagabond, Shamo, Cowboy Bebop that are way more dark than any comic. Or Takeshi Mike movies that hardly could be distribuited in american media. That's why most of japanese material is censored in USA.

  • no i know a lot of 'dark' manga too but they don't have public appeal. i was talking about movies and mangas and heros that are known very well or really popular.

so i'm just saying dark knight failed in japan because they don't believe the hero should have realistic problem and etc

it's kinda funny how some US stuffs are censored in japan while some japan stuffs are censored in US. Censorship just happens to show us how much we have cultural differences XD

  • Japanese hardly censor anything. For example Kill Bill was released in full colour during the massacre in Vol 1. while the american version used black and white.

Japanese movies in general are far more gore and dramatic than american movies. Because Japanese cinema is independant while most of American Movies depend on Hollywood.

  • Because we know USA has much better classic movie works such as The Shawshank Redemption or Once Upon a Time in America or excellent Kubrick and Hitchcock's work than this kind of crappy hero movies.

  • I think that if I had to read subtitles in a theater then I would really get annoyed. I don't mind reading it but in a theater I think that's why it didn't gross that much in Japan. I actually half expected them to dub it.

  • Probably. But if you see how many people all aroudn the world enjoy the JP media culture and they do it by stuggeling their way thru subtitles.

Are they even aware of that? Makes one think it'll be worth a try, no?

Also Im not native english speaking but i bought the DvD just to be able to see it in english. Id give a damn lot to hear the english version while watch it on THE big screen.

  • japan wasnt pleased with dark knight? what???

was gotham knight not enough for them to go see it? theres a chance they liked gotham knight more than dark knight, hahaha. but then again, i know nothing about japanese culture. i thought the movie casshern was pretty similar to dark knight in matters of darkness and depth. and again, the japanese might have not liked casshern.

  • B-B-B-B-B-B-B..........BAT MAN! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! *love batman! IM A TOTAL FAN GIRL STUPID JAPAN JKJK!!*

  • Otaku island boykotts DC?

  • Japan didn't like it because of the storyline. I partially agree with them, but the effects were decent.

今まで観た中でNo.1movieだ!

  • The movie only grossed $14 million in Japan... Thats garbage right there but warner bros will re release it in Japan so it can get a billion dollars worldide

  • Hay I have a question? There is a Spanish and French dub of this movie on the DVD. Was Dark Knight subbed or dubbed in Japan?

  • How can you talk shit about someone for not liking a movie? You're a fucking moron.

  • It flopped in Japan as well.

Not enough people in Japan saw advertising for the movie- which is one of the reasons it failed. If Warner Bros just gave it the same push they give every Harry Potter movie, TDK would've grossed another 100 million

  • @MrHeavySilence3 ... It wasnt really intended to internationalize, since the Japanese are unfamiliar with the comic, but were familiar with Harry Potter because it cross marketed to children. They didnt give it a push, because they calculate internal risk. DreamWorks/Paramount can do big build-ups of Transformers or MI:4 because it is intended to be marketed overseas They arent giving it the push because it wasnt intended to be pushed. It is a dead-pan detective/crime saga, not a fantasy SF film

  • @AnimeWrestlingFan really korea didnt like it??

  • Thats sad. It was pretty big in America. It's in second place on highest grossing on the first weekend. Titanic is first.

No, the shit310 said "I think this movie is one of the best one.

And I also think that there will be no movie better than THE DARK KNIGHT untill next year ...may be..."

    See !?

  • You are an idiot if you think Google Translator is accurate for Japanese.

  • I know that it's not accurate. But I assumed that it was in the ballpark.

Hey, thanks for calling me an idiot. You must be great at parties.

It is the best in the movie in the 21st century.

    "一本" isn't "a book".

    it's "a ...".

  • well its your opinoin and everyone has differnt opinions so.me i loved this movie its the best one yet!!

  • were the sales high for this movie in Japan.

  • wow you went through alot of trouble to translate that. I just don't understand why so many people gave it a thumbs down.

  • Thanks.

I was just interested in the Japanese reaction to this film. I read somewhere that American comics aren't very popular over there, and I wanted to know if this interpretation impressed them.

  • I've recently been informed that this movie performed very abysmally at the box office over in Japan.

  • Sadly, this is true. I guess Batman just isn't as big over there.

  • I general, Japanese dont watch Hollywood films so much.

This one is comparatively successful in Japanese market.

  • Maybe they would've gone to see it if Hideki Matsui had a cameo the way they flock to his Yankee games ::rolls eyes:: oh, and before I hear any accusations of being racist, I'm Japanese...just calling it like I see it. Anyway, TDK is effin' amazing!

  • Pics or it didn't happen.

  • so is your father

  • WHY SO SERIOUS?

  • is movied dubbed or subbed in japan?

  • most are subbed

  • i wonder if they translate English movies in Japan or they just put jap. subtitles?....

  • most of the time its just japanese subs

  • frds

  • why so serious?

  • why so serious !?

  • w00t!
