its odd, Amtrak says their ridership is at an all time high, yet thier trains were 3-4 times longer. i mean they have a 12 car train on here. 12 on a regional is unheard of now. maybe 7 max not 12
@cbehr91 Haha I live in Southern California I rode in one of those Comet cars just the other day. I bet you the one I boarded is in one of these videos, haha.
The transition between private railroads and Amtrak was interesting because you could see which sets were comprised of what cars. American railroading was full of heritage equipment for years until the Amfleets and Viewliners had replaced all of the aged cars. That tasteless contrast between American railroading and Indian railroading can be answered by this fact,
Indian Rail is abused and extremely saturated, American Rail is respected
I don't really think they would have modified it that much. In order to get the X2000 approve by the Federal Railroad Administration would required ditch lights and a bell.
Totally enjoyed this video! Brings back so many fond memories of riding the Heritage Fleet coaches which, imho, were much more comfortable than the "bouncy" Amfleet-"Amcan" coaches. Even with their problems, the E60s were well muscled giants that could yank long Amtrak trains with ease. I'm so glad I got to experience a ride with an E60 pulling the Silver Meteor at 110 mph before the 90mph restriction was imposed on the E60s. Very enjoyable and smooth ride. :-).
whoa damn at 2:19 e60 rly can pull. god above

What was the train at 5:55? Also why did the Montrealer get cut back if it was running so many cars?

For me as a German it look like third World. All these old fashioned Trains. America or India?
deafdirk 1 year ago
@deafdirk In this part these are Americans trains from 20 or so years ago. Most of the equipment seen here has been retired.

At: 5.31. Ahh the Swedish built X2000. I wonder why Amtrack didn't buy them?
They only leased one unit for about a year (1992- 1993)
It would have fitted perfect for the now long gone "Acela Commuter"!

I think the design would've had to have been modified to comply with FRA and other regulatory crap.

idiot walking down the NEC on crutches at 0:15
sticklets87 2 years ago
That's not the NEC. That's the nearly-abandoned CNJ right-of-way.
cbehr91 2 years ago
yeah, I realized that after I posted the comment. NEC would be in much better condition.

NJ Transit used the E60's into the '90s?
therealJPeterman 2 years ago 2
Yes, but only very briefly. I believe most of them were out of service within the next year.
cbehr91 2 years ago
Yes. They certainly looked really nice in that paint scheme.
