WOW I really dig Delberts version...im only 25 but have been listening to him for about 15 years and i havent heard this before....Awesome....I love it and I love Delbert
Thanks for posting this. I didn't even know he covered this great song. I'm a huge fan of The Beatles (especially Lennon), but I'm a relatively new fan of Delbert's music (my first attraction was 'Better Off with the Blues' in '97: superb!), but he really sets the gold standard in his genre! I also have to say that, while his vocals are awesome, I have to give a lot of the credit for his success to the outstanding musicians who really make his sound seamless. Keep posting & thx again!
i really like delbert hav e for many years would like to see too much stuff with lyle lovett, better off with the blues and finally i love his version of bright side of the road always tryto play for my friends to see what they think but hard to find those ones,ty for getting more delbert out there and hey what a band hes assembled...and thats the truth lol
Also true is: Lennon did ask Delbert for some pointers when they met and Delbert gave him some. AGAIN, Love Me Do tracks had already been laid down and Lennon was already experienced...but, Delbert was a master and Lennon recognized that.
And while the tracks had already been laid, it is probably true that listening to Delbert on his recordings influenced Love Me Do and, probably, Please Please Me later that year.
There are loads of interviews on the internet where Delbert refutes this myth.
The actual story is this - McClinton was touring England with Bruce Channel (he played Harp on his song Hey Baby) in 1962 and he met a young/pre-famous John Lennon.
By the time they met, Lennon had already laid down the initial tracks for Love Me Do as Lennon was already an experience harp player (a talent he honed while in Hamburg)
In response to carann5's comment about Delbert teaching Lennon how to play harmonica (in the description of this video posting):
That is urban legend...this myth has circulated for years, stating that while the Beatles were playing that strip club in Hamburg, Germany the two somehow crossed paths and Delbert taught him a few chords on the harp and the result was the harmonica that you hear on Love me do. There are other variations but, they are also not true.
I wrote it that way because that's the way I hear it. Also, it makes more sense than hold you in his armchair. Although it could make sense to the English. Thanks for commenting!
It's from the album "The Great Songs - Come Together," released in 1995. I have also become a big McClinton fan since hearing his music about 5 or 6 years ago. Even though he's been around for awhile, I had never heard of him until then. The man deserves a lot more recognition. He's just great! Thanks!
But the song is sung by Delbert McClinton, so maybe I should have pictures of him, right? I think Lennon was referring to Harrison in some of the words of the song. And I thought the pictures of Harrison fit the words. At least those that make sense. Thanks for your comment.
I believe you're right Uz, but I just wanted to use one person throughout my video and found some great pics of George. Thank you so much for your comment and info!
Come together is a song that holds cosmic clues that describe the personality of a prophet musician of biblical significance who will appear in the near future to try and save humanity.George Harrison knew this. This musician will attempt to teach people truth and love and bring people together to stop the New World Order. This prophet is called the Nowhere man and the "Fool on the hill". These songs make sense if you listen with this theory in mind.
This is just amazing. I'm a big fan of Delbert, and would love to see him in concert sometime. WOW, I'm a 60's child, and my uncle just introduced me to his music - I'm lovin' it..........
That's a good quesion. The song was credited to John Lennon and sung by the Beatles but I felt that pictures of George seem to fit the video. Also, it's said that some of the lyrics are referring to George: "He got hair down to his knee." and also "He got joo-joo eyeball, he one holy roller. Harrison became interested in Hare Krishna and some think the "joo-joo" eyeball refers to the third eye of Krishna. Lennon thought of him as a "holy roller. Thanks so much for your comment and interest!
Your approach to editing is as unusual as Delbert's approach to music! I love the way the song and subject matter fit so well.. (come together) haha! One of the best!
Who is playing guitar on this song come together?

This song was written by John Lennon as a favor to Timothy Leary who was looking for a theme song to for a possible US Presidential Campaign.

Lennon wrote this song when they all went to india, it wasn't about George it was about the Maherishe something or other but nice vid just the same.
jimbo17480 2 years ago
Actually each verse describes a different Beatle, from what I read. The third verse is about Lennon himself.
