sure seems to me to be advocating EXTREME works salvation. It makes the law and the pharisees look like a joke. This chapter and a few others pretty much sink any sense of salvation by grace through faith. I have worked on this passage for a year and there is no way around it. It is COMPLETELY contradictory to the doctrine of grace. This is one of the worst most destructive passages in the entire new testament. but i suspect that it is the true message, one of EXTREME works for salvation. sad.
@hellbindercda I TOTALLY and COMPLETELY disagree with you. This is the absolute opposite of what you're suggesting. This passage is REFUTING salvation by works and sinless perfectionism. Paul is talking about becoming holy during your time here on earth.
Good exegesis man! If half of the pulpits used exegesis today along with hermeneutics, we wouldn't be seeing so many bad teachings and therefore much more focus on making disciples instead of modern day pharisees!
