I've found many China & Korea,etc anime over the years like TAE-KWON V/ VOLTAR, MAZINGER 3,MAZINGER 7,MAZINGER V,MAZINGER X, PHOENIX KING, FALCON 7, GOLDWING 123, SUPER FLY DRAGON, MASTERS OF THE FUTURE,etc,but has anyone ever seen a Asian VOLTES V remake called TONGA? I got the toy & its a recolored&remolded VoltesV but with 3 V's on the chest. It could be only a toy but I have robot toys from the other anime titles I have mentioned before, so there may well be an anime too for TONGA.

after watching an episode (mostly re-runs) i would run outside my house (in mach 25, and shouting "chain knuuuuckles!" then "laaaserrr swoooooorrrd!") and talk/discuss/debate/share with other kids (also big fans) for hours. now in my early 40's, i still love the episodes and the memories, brings a smile on my face.

if you think cartoons were brutal in the 80s, this was way more(watch some of its episodes).

but regardless of its brutal nature, it showed great character.

this wasnt the only cartoon banned during the marcos regime, all cartoons were banned and also all forms of video games.

but i think the ban only made it more popular with all of us in the philippines.

In "Newswatch", a news show aired in RPN Channel 9 during the 70's, it was explained why it was banned. Because of too much violence in the movie children started hurting other kids mimicking the Voltes V swordfights. I myself observed such behavior from some of my playmates. It has nothing to do with any dictatorship trying to quell a movie that inspires rebellion whatsoever. Marcos' Regime is what we call a necessary authoritarianism which we Filipinos deserve in order to clean up the society.

How old are you princerei and MhacKo? I was 10 years old when it was first banned by Marcos himself... That was the year 1978... I was so frustrated when that happened because I am a solid fan of Voltes V... My dad who happened to be Marcos' Crew Chief in the Presidential Chopper Sikorsky Blackhawk told me that Marcos banned Voltes V from being aired because a lot of children are jumping off from roofs thinking they could fly... In our village alone 3 such cases happened every month in 1977.

I know it was banned once for sure, the last two episodes were not shown originally when the rest of the series was and many people think this is because it showed the people of the alien homeworld revolting against a cruel leader (a no-no since the Phillipines was a dictatorship at the time )... and the last two episodes were later shown as a movie in filipino theaters... most of the filipinos I know in their mid 20s to mid 30s love this show.

sorry 4 episodes got confused... never heard the kitchen knife part, and the reason why I say thought is because to my knowledge the Marcos administration never stated an official reason for banning it (though of course it's rather obvious)... I'm not Fillipino, but I have many friends who are and for a lot of them this series holds a special place, and I've come to respect the show because of their love for it.
