  • First time iv'e heard this since the 1960s !!! GREAT

  • what can i say ackers still at it....great news.....

  • Acker is still alive and playing!! awesome 82 years young :-)

  • THe best ever version god bless ya guys and god bless trad! Long live Acker

  • why is he holding the clarinet that high?

how couldn't they manage to not smoke for these two minutes? does mr. blik have a cigarette between his fingers? and the drummer and the banjo. and lol - coffee?

  • i love this version so much :)

  • Ultimate in cool.

  • WOW!!! THIS IS...SO MUCH...LOVE... I started watching the vid with an astonished smile but at 1:52 couldn't hold on the tears... the Leader (Clarinet), the Good Boy (Trumpet), the Lovely Rascal (Trombone), the Quiet Man (Piano), the Tough Seducer (Drums), the Energetic Intellectual (Banjo)... Even if some had a miserable life, just taking part into that gig with that bunch, would justify a whole life of sorrows; and no Internet, cell phones, and all that unnecessary stuff around! Enlightening :D

  • so much energy

  • @avalonmpk

I didn't know about Bristol but London was also a great place for traditional jazz in the early sixties. I was a big Chris Barber fan and had some great times at concerts and dances in those days. Listening to this video shows why Acker Bilk and his band were in such demand, the ensemble playing is as brilliant as the solos. I notice that the pianist appears to be drinking tea in the clip but ,whenever I saw them, there would be a row of pints lined up on top of the piano.

  • Yes this is brilliant jazz, and Ive always been a big fan of his, being a west country chap myself, but i think he should retire gracefully now,Ive seen a couple of his gigs in the last few months and HAve been so disapointed and sad,not just for Acker, but for his audiencies.Time to chuck it in mate.!

  • Mr. Acker Bilk was one of a few great musicians that gave me pleasure to listen to back in 1961 when I was a young teen. In the last year or so I found him again here on YouTube and really enjoy all the videos that went along with that great music, and some that I never heard. Thank You Acker. Sir David

  • Another example of the hot - hot - hot virtuosity of Mr Acker Bilk (if virtuosity can be hot?!?)....... what a brilliant musician he is....listen to what he is doing in the ensembles!!!!! HarryLillis

  • takes me back to when life was so much fun

  • Great video, saw them play this recently. Acker is still cracking jokes.

Very impressed with the well constructed words of alexanderbebop !

Obviously a true fan of music.

  • To be young before 1963 when the infantile pop groups appeared on the scene with their childish strumming of electric guitars and infantile exhibitionist behaviour was the best of times. These guys are MUSICIANS not guitar strumming drug taking yobs. I had some great times at concerts and dances with Acker Bilk's and Chris Barber's bands on stage. If you weren't there you will never know what you missed.

  • @MartinPadderborn

did you ever hear the other music, did you ever try drugs? maybe you don't know what you are talking about!

  • Comment removed

  • @JosDetermeijer Yes I've heard it and it's total crap. As for taking drugs I have no intention of breaking the law which, if I had my way, would be enforecd to the letter against self-indulgent deadheads who think drug taking is clever just because some silly little pop singers do so. As I said, If you weren't there you don't know what you missed. You obviously weren't there.

  • @MartinPadderborn I'm not defending drug use and I, in many ways, think it's quite sad how my generation has fun these days (I'm 21), but it really is simplistic to say people "think drug taking is clever just because some silly little pop singers do so".

It isn't that simple, and we are not deadheads, and even if we were you wouldn't be able to tell because you don't understand why my generation acts how it does.

  • @MartinPadderborn

I remember Acker at the Crown and Dove in Bristol - what a scene it was in those days Brizzie was the hottest place in Britain for Le Jazz Hot!! and most of them are still going strong Free Scrumpy fro a month for all west country jazz fans!!!

  • At 1:43 the piano is starting playing by itself, the pianist is still standing, drinking his cup of - milk, i'm sure it has to be milk. Obviously some editing here...

  • I can't get enough of the trumpet solo at 0:16!

  • Thanks for posting ! I've been looking for this tune 20+ years, didn't even know it was classical music in the first place. But this version is what I remember from 70s, from my favourite tv show in Poland. Kicks ass !

  • szukałem wiele lat ,aż wreszcie!kiedyś tak zaczynał się program w tv Klub Sześciu Kontynentów Kawiarenka Pod Globusem.rewelacyjna wersja .

  • @bosman64

Mam to samo - 20 lat poszukiwania, pytanie wszystkich dookoła - nikt nic nie wie. Co my byśmy bez youtube'a zrobili ! Najpierw ktoś zamieścił wersję z "Klątwy Skorpiona" a potem obrodziło innymi wersjami :-). Mimo wszystko chciałbym usłyszeć wersję z "Klubu Sześciu Kontynentów" - chyba była trochę inna (?)

  • wrinkly100.. White cliffs etc and early stuff is on the album. (his 1st if i remember) ACKER . hard to find but available if you search hard enough. Japanese amazon has a few at a fiver !! The cover is a centrespiece of a bowler hat with white background, and the name ACKER many times on the left of the album cover. GET IT

    Good luck !

  • Ich mach ja auch Musik, aber was die Jungs mit geschlossen Lippen spielen ist genial. Vor allem noch Rauchen während dem Musik machen: Das waren geniale Zeiten !!

  • Great to turn back the years and have my ears blasted with such talent and spirit, fab.

Still searching for more of Ackers early stuff like bonna serra white cliffs etc, anyone know where to find?

  • Yes, they did smoke, since this has to be made an issue.... Their music is smoking hot as one can hear. Top notch all the way!

  • Agree totally.

I wouldn't have put it QUITE like that myself, but your version has STYLE.

Jazz club without smoking? Like fish and chips without salt 'n' vinegar!

Like Beckham without something broken.....goes against the natural order. LOL.

  • Love it.

Let them even try to make stuff such as this today. Can't be done. Can't be done.

  • My late father used to play this - in a danceband - around the time of this recording. Known to all players of the age as "In a Martian Perkit"

  • thanks for post...who's on trumbone please

  • The trumpet player is the late Colin Smith considered by many to be one of Britain's finest jazz trumpet players.

  • @jazzbowable

The last session that Colin played before joining Acker was at the Bath Jazz Club in the Angel Hotel in Westgate street Bath Ive still got the receipt from the Lyn Dutton Agency Heplay along side the two greatest clarenetists on the British scene!

  • Zwracamy:)

Porządny zespół, i robią sobie niezłą zabawe. Pianista łoi na perkusji solo, po robocie łyczek herbatki i dalej klawisze molestuje:) giitarzysta kiepa za struny i łoi, a sekcja dęta po prostu rewelacja!!!! Pozdrawiam ziomek!!
