Can someone tell me why they leave on the left side of the stage? I notice if the dancers are on the 'move' like going on a journey, then they are suppose to exit the right side of the stage. Right?
it doesnt really matter which side of the stage the dancers leave..they could leave on thr right or to the left and sometimes dancers at one part leave either the right or left side...at my dancing class we always leave the left side..so yeah..;)
Whoever made the sbai for the female costume did a really fine job. And I notice it doesn't look like they used cheap sequins, actually using some sort of faux crystal bead which looks really nice.
For the male costume, it would look better if they didnt use the sequins and used thread embroidery instead.
Erh, I don't think Khun Peeramon could produce enough costumes for everyone, plus the patterns he uses are not Khmer style. If Khmer costume makers tried to revive the old designs, it would be awesome.
Look on Wikipedia for Khmer Classical Dance. There is an old picture of an incredibly detailed Khmer dancer male costume. Oh my! It really gorgeous.
but then again, back in the day, the patterns were really similar, but i don't think that the costumiers could be able to reconstruct the same costumes, as the knowledge maybe be lost and khmers don't always appreciate quality.
The method of embroidering those designs may have been lost, but whats to stop them from mimicking the designs from old photographs? Like you said, lack of appreciation for detail. LOL. And I do not find similarity between the patterns for Khmer and Thai costumes back then. I tried to, but fail to see great similarity.
isn't this the same drama as preah onoruth neang ousa that borosWA posted a while back? it includes the same characters, but i don't remember this scene whilst watching it.
Yes and no. The one posted by BorosWA is a recreated version that includes changes to the story line. I think this dance here is a remnant of the older version. In the new version you can see Neang Supheak leak played by Sam Savin, but her role is greatly reduced to a simple servant. The Thai version of this part is called Suphalak Um Som (Sopheakleak Bey Bom) focus on their flying journey.

@KoneAngkor
Thanks.
Troung is used with verbs or noun. It describes a royal action if not a royal body. Domras means a royal order
Preah Puneath < I think they mean either Phuva Neath or Phu Ney, a lord or other kingly figure.
Bongkom, third line seems to be about Neang Sopheakleak saluting him at his feet
4th line is just describing his grandeur and excellence.
5th line, Sdech yeang tov, "king to walk" or to go ahead. In this case, Sopheakleak is ready to take him flying.

I'm surprised that the crown didn't fall off by the time this piece was almost over.
