  • i love how lamb of god is getting so much advertisement they deserve it more than any other band right now ! pure american metal!

  • I've been listening to these guys since I was 12. I saw them for the first time this year in Niagara Falls and this was one of their best played songs. Styx is incredible

  • one reason i hate this song, it always makes me lose the game. Otherwise great song

  • grand, i think not, but my life does seem to be illusion

  • Yeah! Great old stuff, still relevant today.

  • That 70s show.

  • @trentspirit1 best show ever ;)

  • I remember these songs by heart still ... Loved the music, until Mr Roboto. I wish i was young again .Miss it

  • saw them on this tour in Toronto, It was the first date on their North American tour and it was awesome.

  • I would listen to this song on my 8 Track every morning before school when I was 16. :) The meaning of the lyrics, was as dead on about society then, as it is today. Blue Collar Man would would desribe some of todays' current issues as well. It's surprising noone writes songs like this today.

  • This was the theme song of my teen angst. 70's -80's and it's STILL true! Funny thing, Styx prolly saved me sheeplehood.

  • Someday soon well stop to ponder what on earth's this spell were under

We made the grade and still we wonder who the hell we are

  • 29 folks were fooled by the radio the tv or the magazines.

  • The way I see it, the message is simple - we're being lied to, told to fit a mold. Easy. Translate that how you will, but let's jsut listen to the music.

  • @jigglesquat Troll somewhere else, please. Anyone who's here on their own knows you're wrong.

  • @jigglesquat <------ please don't feed this troll

  • As above, So below

The Emerald Tablets of Thoth : "Man is in the process of changing, to forms that are not of this world; grows he in time to the formless, a plane on the cycle above. Know ye, ye must become formless before ye are one with the light."

  • woah. such good surround sound, that both my speakers are to my right and i STILL heard it to my left. dont think this has surround sound either =)

  • 1:26 you all lost the game

  • STYX's message can be interpreted in the form of many different analogies, & metaphors, But the one constant message is one of Positivity. And Please excuse me from any debates or arguements, or conversation to the contrary! I'm to busy enjoying the Music to participate in those activities! Peace Out. :)

  • The message is clear here... What we have is a grand illusion...

The evil is around us all... The debt enslavement, wars for Israel, evil control of government, and the control over the media and the message that we receive.

Just remember that its a grand illusion, and deep inside we are ALL the same

  • I see a lot of bickering, name calling, and ignorance to the message STYX is trying to tell you / us. People Lay down your crack pipes, open your eye's, ears, minds, and try to understand the message in the music!

  • @mrmasterlee1

Mr master lee? Why don't you explain it to them? He's not asking who the the hell we are? He's asking why the hell are we here? So, answer master lee, please. Because, I'm just Lao Tsi.

  • Respond to this video... okay I responded.

  • Best part was from 0:00 to 4:38 (hits replay)

  • great song

  • I was watching That 70's Show today . . . . I guess you know why I am here if you saw the episode "You Can't Always Get What You Want"

  • I like it when lyrics are included. It's like getting tongue on the first date.

  • part of our marching show

    Lion Marching Band 2011

  • 28 people are mad that their neighbor has it made

  • Any and all thumbs up whores are part of the grand illusion...don't go listen to a certain song unless they're told to by TV, radio, or even the man in jeans...

  • @c0mf0rta61ynum6 Stupid, its MAGAZINES not "man in jeans." I do like your account name, Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd

  • Bought this when it came out it was on something called an Album back when i lived that 70's show

  • Comment removed

  • I prefer a more lush, orchestral sound.

  • @themasterofmovies Haha, Eric's line in That 70's Show!!!

  • South Park showed me Styx. Then more a year later, That 70s show brought me back to styx.

I actually like Styx... This is a cool song...

  • The radio brought me here! :)

  • Welcome to the grand illusion

  • my mom is 75 and loves this whole album. what can i say, the woman has great taste in music.

  • Eric Forman sent me.

  • this was my wedding song way back when

  • @Msmoonshadow62 What an awful wedding song.

  • The world is an illusion, like A Course In Miracles said, and STYX knew..

  • \m/

  • Hey people, it's music time. Please put your hatred aside............

  • USA THE GRAND ILLUSION OF LIES!

911 was Muslims, fluoride is good, vaccines are good, chemtrails are water vapor, voting is fair, fed reserve is federal & a reserve, income tax is required by law, obama was born in Hawii & USA went to the moon, HAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh sheeple people so gullible. Sure why not, we just killed a long dead osama , LOL.

  • @bongojim420 If you don't like this country, then you can get the hell out!

  • @lethalsparrow And leave it to uneducated morons like you? lol

Hows that ''change'' working for you? lol. Find those WMDs yet? lol

    Ughhh...ughhh...ughhhh....

  • @bongojim420 I'd rather it be left to "uneducated morons" like me rather than pot-smoking commies like you who believe every stupid conspiracy theory that comes along.

  • @lethalsparrow ;O you say that like theres something wrong with pot smoking!

  • @bongojim420 typical conservative. when the liberals cant clean their mess up, the EVIL liberal media caused the recession.

Actually i'm just joking with you - you're a fucking nut. Stop worrying about your stupid pseudo-intelligent controversies because you're doing just about the same amount of help then the Bush administration did for America. thanks.

  • @GamerzPro1231 Yeah, blame it on the ones singing the truth to us. It exposes their agenda of turning this into a sharecropper's economy.

  • i came here because of that 70sshow

  • This video has been chosen for September 10, 2011 post on Facebook page: Random Daily Classic Rock Song

  • Thumbs up if you knew this song before YouTube existed ! Just kidding... don't thumbs up this...

  • My theory is that everyone is part of someones dream and this is just the world created by it. Just remember, this is not real and is Grand illusion.

We're all images of someones imagination!!

  • Just remember that its a grand illusion, cuz deep deep inside, we're all the same!

  • this is great

  • Since 1968? can an x be blamed then?

  • yeah, ya know, i tried to attend burkley back when I was 18,. funny things happened back then too. I was liked and ready to be accepted, but you know what? after I could not attend, you know what went on to fill burkley? a gay issue to set the stage before I could get there andmake a difference the difference had to be made first. I am not the one who is confused, like i said, I like fact, instead of theory. B word? without a doubt sis/bro.

  • @boxerpup7

Pardon me but I believe it is spelled "Berkeley" and as such your spelling definitely didn't help get you in.

  • Amazing song. Thank you Rush. I mean Styx. Honestly progressive and psychedelic rock is my favorite.

  • my mom grew up in the 70's so i have almost every one of their albums

  • This awesome in concert at least it was in 197-- something . Can't remember. ???

  • Just to make something clear if you guys wanna see them go see Dennis DeYoung not Styx! The Group Styx misses a lot of the original member and the good ol's sound! Dennid DeYound tho stil got his voice and his talent!

  • @h2aeu Wrong! 3/5 classic members are still involved and they rock better than ever, oh and I like Dennis also!

  • Meaningful Lyrics. Alot of music these days seem to enforce the illusion, back then they were singing to try to make you let go of the BS and live happier.

  • as someone who was there during the time, it was just called rock....it's an outstanding concept to think of it that way, i know....but leave it to others to convince you that's it's in some sort of sub-genre.....in my book, rock = rock

    **now here come the trolls**

  • Going to see them sing this on August 3rd, 2011... can't wait.

  • its not rock., whoever heard renegade should know they are a disco band

  • ERIC&STYX 4ever FEZ rules

  • The lyrics make the song good. I think if this song was about sex or something shitty and pointless like that I wouldn't listen to it. It is like telling a story and you just want to know what's next. Epic band.

  • Saw them for the second time last Wednesday (first time was last summer with Kansas and Foreigner). Incredible show. Their stage presence is amazing.

  • Just saw Styx in concert the other night...they put on a great show!

  • @dustin720 Yea they do. I went not to long ago to see them perform pieces of eight.

  • This reminds of something excistable here in Serbia, but wish that really is an illusion. :D

  • @Nbgd1988 *I wih

  • @Nbgd1988 *I wish

  • OH, DAMN STRAIGHT I DID!! My brother bought this for us to share when it 1st dropped!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Took me hours to find this I just knew the beat an the lyrics wondering who the hell we are

  • South park and that 70s show got me into styx (I've liked classic rock before that though.)

  • @TheKassicRock this isn't classic rock, not even near.

  • @RusPrideAK

What is it then? It's Not Prog, it's not Hard Rock, it might be Arena Rock, but i wouldn't put it at that

  • @TheKassicRock it actually is very progressive rock.

  • thumbs up if you heard this before BIg Daddy

  • much more progressive than other styx songs... I like it!

  • fortune tellers...the for-scene decline of America at its greediest??? Blind ambition although not an American exclusive we have proven to the rest of the world how truly bad it can be. With that all said, loved the song in High School (late 70's) and love it still.

  • Styx FTW with nondualism

  • wow it's a close call that 70s show or not. I myself was brought her because of that 70s show just because this music is for my time. Today radio stations unofortunately only play bad 'music'

  • I saw these guys at Lulu's in Kitchener. Lawrence Gowan was with them. Absolutely rockin'. One of my fav's

  • Unfortunately i didn't know this before that 70s show... but I did know renegade before GTAIV

  • my marching band is doing this for our first song

though it doesnt sound as amazing as the original

  • Thumbs up if this was Your favorite album in your 8-Track collection!

  • that guitar solo....totally awesome, very Hendrix like haha well more laidback but still

  • 14 people are fooled by the radio, the TV and the magazines.

  • Watched Styx live last night. Opened with grand illusion. Absolutely awesome.

  • and to complete the set, thumbs up if you don't give a shit what brought you here.

  • @IreTheOnlinegame2010 STYX brought me here!!

  • @IreTheOnlinegame2010 That 70's show brought me here

  • 14 people think who the hell they are!

  • @capthaudy Shut up, you fucking idiot. You're just some bitch trying to get thumbs up. And you didn't even try hard to make a clever comment. or even one that makes sense.

  • I get it! lol

    awesome...

  • thumbs up all the way......this song took me all the way thru high school...saw them one time for 3 darn dollars!! it was awesome......

  • Love Styx since they first appeared at the Exhibition stadium in Toronto.

I saw their "Grand Illusion" tour, it was the best concert/show I have ever been too. Tommy Shaw was great too! Their backup was Zon, what a night to remember! Those were the days when it was inexpensive and the best bands, I saw Queen with Freddy, and Rush at Maple Leaf Gardens the following week, whew, life then was so much fun!

  • @investing12345 Agreed, had so much fun in the 70's when life easier, good music, good people, then today had to happen, this crap rap, stupid pop bull shit came out, now it's about the spotlight and money, back in the days music was about the talent it was true to the word, with real instruments.Wonder why I'm still stuck in the past, 50's through the 80s is the best era for anything,

  • this is such a metaphoric song. it's actually helped me through life when i was feeling hopeless. i <3 you styx.

  • I LUV STYX! GABBO METER: 10!

  • 14 people were fooled by the grand illusion

  • thumbs up if you knew this song before "That 70s show"

  • @MrNoseSnot i had album in 78

  • @MrNoseSnot I didn't even know it was on That 70's Show... now I wanna see that episode.

  • @MrNoseSnot in my opinion most people did know of the song before That 70's Show but didnt pay to much attention to it before eric sang it.

  • @MrNoseSnot For sure man! I've been listening to this song for over 30 years. I'm a Styx fan from way back!!!

  • @MrNoseSnot I didn't it was on that 70s show but I do think that its great now the kids that listened Styx back in the 70s and 80 s are now the writers and producers of today

  • @MrNoseSnot i 24 and i knew this sound when i was 13

  • @MrNoseSnot woot nice 200.

  • @MrNoseSnot what is the seventys show ?

I was in Jr, high when this came out

pulling bong loads off a double chamber bong with two hoses

deep inside were all the same

  • @eddievanhalenstoung You've never heard of that 70's show?

  • @MrNoseSnot first time i saw them they were opening for KISS

  • if ur from Harvard no need to apply u commies

  • @Syzygy60 Learn to use correct grammar, you penguin.

  • I also know the lyrics without ur help,I don't need a Nanny

  • u couldn't be more ignorant if u went Harvard

  • this is just like american culture its all fake

  • @AlecS3128 ur gonna judge everything american on this song,I thought they were english pussies like you...get the fuck outta here

  • @AlecS3128

Isn't ALL pop culture artificial regardless of the country of origin? Most parts of Europe have the same infatuation with "fake" pop culture figures (I.e.- television and film actors, musicians, athletes, models, politicians, wealthy people, royalty, etc.) Ironically, m any of the figures they are infatuated with are Americans which is extremely odd. Certain parts of Asia are obsessed with Taylor Swift...a teenage girl that won a TV karaoke contest in the U.S.A. Lunacy.

  • I came here thanks to That 70's show :D

  • wow just discovered Styx, anyone suggest any certain songs that are really good besides fooling yourself?

  • @WhiteSilverAngel Well, being more of a Tommy Shaw fan, I can recommend Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Boat on the River, Crystal Ball, and Man in the Wilderness. Awesome goodness. Best album: Grand Illusion.

  • @WhiteSilverAngel well, theres lots of good ones, like Mademoiselle, Renegade, Come Sail Away (great one right there), Crystal Ball, Mr. Roboto, Show Me The Way, and so much more, just look up their name and youll find some songs :)

  • @WhiteSilverAngel I'm surprised no one's suggested Suite Madame Blue, Miss America, or Lady yet, Castle Walls is also good

  • @WhiteSilverAngel Snow Blind is good.

  • i lost the game

  • Great song. Who care's about a mispelling on here (except of course for the ;spelling/grammar trolls.

  • I first heard this on That 70's show :D

  • What happened to spellcheck?

  • I guess Zachfair21 doesn't do spellcheck.

  • AWESOME!!! My favorite styx song. Drove my mom crazy singing along. Good memories. Thanks for posting.

  • Still blows my mind.. Love um

  • These guys are so deep. I LOVE STYX!!

  • STYX---"THE GRAND ILLUSION"

  • 'don't be fooled by the radio, the tv, or the magazines ... that show you photographs of how your life should be; they're just someone elses fantasies' I was like 8 yrs old or so when I got pieces of 8....loved it then, love it now!

  • whatever dude, i'm going to defend the type of music that i like, if you have a problem with it than just get a life.

  • Comment removed

  • @Detlockerroom Once again, you make an incorrect and foolish assumption. You do that a lot, don't you? Also, once again, you get way too serious over something that has little meaning to anything. Just remember, it's ........... A Grand Illusion.

Yeah, I may have been building up to that over this full day.

  • @YouaNumbahOneRacist once gain, you accuse me of making an incorrect assumption and then you don't tell me what it is...you do that a lot don't you...and i'm getting serious over it because you keep annoying the hell out of me and i can't even go a few hours without getting a message from you in my inbox. Just fucking drop it. you have your opinion i have mine so just stop arguing!

  • @Detlockerroom I thought you had it figured out. The assumption that I dislike Rap. That's the assumption you make. I do that on a very rare basis, actually, but thanks for asking!

    psst.......

    Grand Illusion.

  • @YouaNumbahOneRacist wow, you just keep on wasting my time don't you? i don't fucking care. all you do is argue with me about defending a type of music that i like...i don't care if it's satire, irony, or whatever. Just post about the damn video instead of Rap or any other type of music. that's all i'm saying. And the fact that you keep posting and responding after me repeatedly asking you to stop flooding my freaking inbox really says something about you.

  • @YouaNumbahOneRacist and the fact that YOU can't figure out what i'm saying, i'll make it as clear as i can. STOP ARGUING WITH ME!

    psst......

    STFU

  • smoke a fatty to this hit.......its all an illusion..they hit the button..death is dilusion

  • just got back from seeing them live. One of the best live bands ever. 2nd best live show I've ever been to. Long live Styx!

  • damn i wish i could play guitar like styx. screw everybody else, tommy shaw and James Young are the bomb

  • i onley like the begining

  • only good song by styx

  • @fogghat25 I totally agree and it happens to be awesome. I was actually listening to "Living Thing" by ELO and for some reason it reminded me of this.

  • @megafaded69 haha yeah i like dont bring me down
