  • Cartoon network has Boomerang.... nick needs a channel that plays nothing but 80s-90s nick shows...the new nick is ridiculous.

  • Mr. Wizard taught me how to blow stuff up.

  • I knew that the monkees had a contest on nick rocks and I wanna know do you have that video if so please let me know

  • I miss You Can't Do that on Television, and Nick at Nite when they played Taxi and Welcome Back Kotter.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song being played in the background from 1:27-1:32. I remember hearing that section of the song and loved it but can never remember the name of it.

  • @boagmuskie It's "Synchronicity II" by The Police. watch?v=UbQd3jxth5k

  • what's wrong with the New Nick?

  • @autoharpage simple...most everything...i grew up in the tail end of this era, enjoyed it, loved the 90's and up to 2002 but after that, it went downhill quick and fast

  • Everytime something is cool they ruin it with a damn corporate takeover!

  • kids in the 80's didnt care about looks, all they cared about was having a good time.

  • @willowbel That's what made today's generation worry me.

  • early 1984.

  • The Cars were on Nickelodeon one time? MIND=BLOWN

  • Nickelodeon has become so dumbed down now. There's no "Mr. Wizard" type shows on now to educate and enterain kids.

  • Ahhh, those were the good ol' days. YCDTOTV was my fave. I'd watch any show back then. Then any show on today's Nick. Especially that Sponge Bob crap!!

  • I loved Mr. Wizard! I used to try all that shit and piss off my parents lol Awesome!

  • wow Chips ahoy really changed alot.

  • does anyone else miss the days when life seemed simple?

  • this makes me want to cry...I miss the 80's !

  • The boy in the Chips Ahoy commercial is the same boy who played Bruce Leroy's brother in The Last Dragon.

  • @zshaw7549 Yeah and Im pretty sure the red headed kid was in Critters

  • I miss being a kid. I couldn't wait to grow up, now, I want to grow down!!!

  • Whats is that at 1:09

  • any one know where i can find footage of a nickrocks episode

  • what year were theses commericals?

  • I love the Dual Tone Multi Frequency in band signaling for inserting local / nationa commercial programming from the network uplinks. Sounds like a telephone lol. Reminds me so much of my early years.

  • @yoshmon Ahhh, no kidding! I only recently found out what that was for, but it was all over cable TV when I was a teen in the 80s. It just takes me back. Makes me feel young.

  • Wow 80s nickelodeon looks so different from Nick in the 90s an 2000s btw I was born in "94"

  • Wow. . .Maybe it's just because I'm older than I was in the 80s (I was born in '82.), but this channel has seriously gone down the crapper over the years!

  • does anyone know the name of that singer hanging from the ropes in that Nick rocks commercial? and the song?

  • Beverly Archer

  • It's Sting, in the video for "Synchronicity II" by the Police.

  • hi just wanted you to know that there is a Pinwheel dvd (s) being sold on Ebay now. :) have a great day!

  • The beginning of the video sounds like the beginning of a sports event.

  • Reminds me of being a little kid in Albany back in the mid 80s!

  • Holy Crap Mr. Wizard, I used to watch that all the time.

  • Dang, I watched that too!

  • RIP Mr. Wizard

  • How and when did Mr. Wizard die? And how old was he?

  • Mr. Wizard died at the age of 90 from (IIRC) a type of bone marrow cancer. Man, these commercials take me back. I used to watch Mr. Wizard's World every morning before school and "You Can't do that" and "Double Dare" when I finished my homework. Good times, good times.

  • What year did he die?

  • From what I can find out, 2007.

  • Haha! :24, the kid from The Last Dragon!

  • Wow, so that's what the whole 2 scoops Raisin Bran thing is all about. Everything well-known in commercials today used to not be so obvious in the past. lol That was a sweet commercial. I'd buy that song on Itunes.

  • What's with the telephone dial noises? I've heard them on other old 80's TV Youtube videos and at the beginning of Disney movies from the 1980's.

  • I used to wonder about this all the time, too, until someone on here clued me in. They were signals to the local cable stations that they could air local commercials after the tone. That sound just takes me right back. Some cable stations, like local access, still play it.

  • Thanks a lot! ^-^

  • DTMF signaling for insertion points of commercials between local cable networks and the uplinks of the main feed. Computers decoded this and handled them. They were phased out mainly because they were annoying as shit.

  • Wow I grew up on Nick. What a great kids tv network. Great shows for children and wonderful learning programs that were entertaining to watch as a child. YCDTOTV was my fav show to watch every day after school.

  • Haha! I remember writing into Nick Rocks to request "Staying Together" by Debbie Gibson.......

I also remember them playing "Breakout" by Swing Out Sister. Don't know why I remember that.

  • justin you wouldnt happen to go to gpc would u?

  • I remeber nick rock's

  • Ah thanks! I grew up back then and I wondered myself what they were. That sound is just so stuck in my memory. Takes me back.

  • ok i did not get at all the raisen brand ad

  • 2:17 phone.

  • what was that sound at 2:18?

  • I love that chiips ahoy commerical. It's still that U can't bite a chips ahoy cookie U bite a chip. there's alot more in there.

and at the begniing wti hthat Next thing soudns liek the beginnign of a sporting event.

  • those chips ahoy cookies looke sooo big back then..now small

  • Oh God I'm old. I remember all of these.

  • in that commercial for Nick rocks, what is the name of that singer and video with that guy hanging from those chords? I want to know.

  • That's Sting hanging in the air, in the video for "Synchronicity II" by the Police.

  • Chips Ahoy.

I can't bit a chips ahoy without biting a chip.

    13,737.

    47:50

  • That redhead in the "Chips Ahoy" commercial is Scotty Grimes. He does the voice for Steve Smith on "American Dad" and he is also on "ER".

  • I didn't realize this until now but he also played the older brother in The Night They Saved Christmas. He was about this age.

  • Life isn't what it used to be. Once upon a time ago kids were KIDS, saturday's were filled with cartoons ALL morning long and they were fun to watch. Now its all about education.. all about learning.. all these shitty little bore the pants off you shows, and learning toys. The shows from the past taught us too.. it just wasn't a big blue dog and a gay dude searching for clues. And If parents actually sat down and TAUGHT their own kid, they wouldnt have to shove $200 "learning" toys at them.

  • Wow, Nick Rocks must have been an awesome show. Wish I could see it.

  • These were the real days of Nickelodeon. You cant beat G1 Anything!

  • New Nick SUCKS!!!

  • it sure does ever since they replaced the Silver ball and rainbow logo with that stupid orange slime blotch. we need a classic Nickelodeon channel that goes nowhere past the Silver ball era.

  • YES! I would LOVE that.

  • Yeah, I agree. We could call it "Nick Retro."

  • @cookingmamaloves2me I strongly agree with you on that. :)

  • The beginning saounds liek the music of a spoorting event.

  • love the 80s commercials as well, great memories !

  • Nikc 80's Ropcks.

  • Imma gr-8 bagger. we need a Nick rewind channel with all the 80's and 90's bumpers and shows. and commericals based on Old Nickelodoen commericals. and old promos. and a new logo based on the orginal silver ball. with the same music and same coming up next things.

They have a channel 4 cartoon Netwrok rewind which is Boomerang. and Nick at Nite has one called TV Land.

But we need a Nick jr. and a Nick rewidn channel.

  • Sign. Good times.

    Rob' Got a Mandee's box 4 Christmas.

    10,389.

  • My dad doesn't live with me. But if He still did, I would be able 2 wathc all the shows I want 2 watch on thoses channels. whern he isn't home. My dad neevr let me watch Nickelodoen. But it would be Okay Since they air stupid show on Suckeldoeon.

  • I wanan a Nikc Rewind. Nickelodoen shows crappy shows right now. I wasn't born 2 1986. So I missed out on a gr-8 time.

But not the 90's I'm so glad that I was born 1986. I Love the roginal bumper from back than. It was colorful and bright. I can't stand 2day's suckelodoen. When it went downhill in 2001.

I hate what Viacom did 2 our childhood.

I don't even Have The N, Noggon , or Nicktoons Network. My mom only wants basic cable. She can only afford that.

  • I remember the ball logo, but the sound I most often associated with Nickelodeon was that strange touch-tone thing that happens at 1:09 in the video. It happened between every show, or at least on the hour. What was that, anyway?

  • I don't remember the silver ball and rainbow logo. I was born at the very tail end of 79. I most remember the orange logo.

  • I'm happy and sad at the same time. I miss the 80's.

  • I'm not getting that now.

  • I used to love Out of Control back when I was a child. It had me laughing.

  • Seriously, Viacom should make a channel called Nick Rewind. It would have all the old shows, bumpers, and Nicktoons, plus a logo based on the good ol' silver ball!

  • Dude great call! Viacom needs to hire you.

  • Yeah, why the hell not? I mean Cartoon Network has Boomerang, and TV Land does the commercial flashbacks, why can't they do a "Classic Nick" channel? It should have Outta Control, You Cant Do That On TV, Count Duckula, Dangermouse, HEY DUDE!, Wild n Crazy Kids, Nick Arcade, Round House, Are You Afraid of The Dark, Tomorrow People, Alex Mac (as well as Nick Jr. shows like David The Gnome, Lil' Bits, Noozles, The Little Koala, Grim's Fairytales, and whatever that show was with the Manx Mouse).

  • Nicktoons Network. That channel has almost all of the old cartoons. I still watch it.

  • Hell yea. Now you got the hey dude theme stuck in my head! "better watch out for those man eating jack rabbits and that killer cacti". Dood, I loved you can't do that on TV. Oh the memories. You forgot a couple though, The mysterious cities of gold, sparticus and the sun beneath the sea, and of course mr.wizards world.

  • totally agree

  • It sucks, that I was born so late.

  • I Love the 1983 nickelodeon bumpers and the silver ball logo.

  • Dammit..I miss the old Nickelodeon so much.

  • The music in the Chips Ahoy! commercials sounds like Jerry Goldsmith's music from the song "Honor of Us All" in Dinsey's "Mulan". XD

  • No it doesn't!!

  • Wasn't Richard Carpenter briefly smitten with Scott Grimes after Karen died?

  • oh how i wanted to live in the '80's. I love the movies, the songs, and the shows. it was the greatest decade to me.

  • it was the greatest ...especially if you were a kid

  • How come there is a wierd tone after the going great commercial and b4 mr. wizard? What does it do or mean??

  • That is a DTMF ID (like an audio bar code) to identify the satellite feed. I used to hear it as a kid and wonder what the fuck it was too. Those IDs stopped after the satellite feeds to the cable companies from the networks went from analog audio to digital audio.

  • Correction: I think its actually to identify the start and end times of the commercial breaks so that the local cable company can insert their own local commercials....NOT to identify the satellite feed.

  • Thanks for the info. You know, I haven't heard the chimes for a while, prob in the change to digital.

  • Yep, that's true. I looked it up on wikipedia out of curiosity. They're called "DTMF" (Dual-tone multi-frequency), in case anyone else wants to read more about it. =)

  • Isn't that Scott Grimes in the Chips Ahoy commercial?

  • I do believe that's Leo O'Brien from "The Last Dragon" and Scott Grimes from "Critters" - lol

  • Holy crap you're right! I knew those kids looked familiar!

  • Man I wish they would bring these shows back!!! And I with that I had all of the old Nick commercials too. Hey thanks for posting this, I use to love NICK ROCKS!!!

  • Holy shit.. Nick Rocks.. LOL. I used to love that show. Saw all my Weird Al videos on there :)

  • When I was a kid, I thought "Out of Control" was the funniest thing in the world.

I'm glad reruns aren't available, because I imagine now I'd be embarrassed to learn the truth.

  • Wow, I had completely forgotten about the music video show.

  • Nick didn't have a west coast feed at the time... only an east coast feed. When did they put the west coast?

  • my god this brings back good times!!i used to watch all of these

    thanks for postin

  • I remember that sound on 01:09 and hearing it often on tv.I still wounder what that was, sounds like a phone dailing.

  • oh my god, the third eye!

  • total flashback... thanks so much!

  • What year is this?

  • The first half, my guess would have been 1985-86. The second half was from 1984

  • OMG!! that's Scott Grimes - the red headed boy!!!! How cool is that!!!

  • Wicked Cool! Out of Control was awesome...
