  • "Would yoou please help us? WITH DEFENDING THE RESTURAUNT!"

  • is this free roam?

  • I haven't played this game in 10 years and when I did I was a too young to really appreciate it. I just bought it off eBay new and have been playing it for the past 7 hours and I am blown away. I love the 'Choose Your Own Adventure' style of games and this is probably one of my all time favorites now! The story is amazing, the replay value is off the charts and even the soundtrack it amazing! I plan to download it tonight and use it for my D&D games. I wish their were more games like this.

  • I feel like this game was catered to me! I get really bored of games easily and have struggled to finish many of the games I start. This game kind of felt like the perfect amount of gameplay to be satisfied. Love it <3 Need more new games like this.

  • omfg i finally found this i played this last time!

  • I think Tesshin is my favorite character in design. He has an awesome sword, and he was the most difficult opponent I had fought.

  • what are you using to record your gameplay?? I want to do a "Let's Play" video and I can't get the picture to ever look right when I am playing my PS2 games.

  • I don't understand how each entry in the series could get worse and worse. Number 1 and 2 are among my favorite games. Especially 1. I even beat Samurai Western. I bought Way of the Samurai 3 and sold it right away. Sucks I had high hopes.

  • I want that AFRO samurai!!!!

  • I must of played through this a bajillion times. Excellent game. :3

  • i was in love with this game...but dissapointed with the second one.

  • @toubapatouba Try the third one!

  • im so getting this

  • this was made by the same guys from tenchu 1 & 2, for those who don't know

  • WTF is afro samurai doing here?

  • @Busterdrag Beats me

  • "I wont make you wait, Please wait here."

  • i remember when by accident i pressed in i give up against tsubohachi then the train fucked me up LOL

  • @GodHandFan you could've had the other clan guy help you out.

  • Damn, this game is still awesome!!!

  • Decent game, but it's a little short.

  • @TheRealThreeP Short, but it's meant to be replayed multiple times.

  • This gaem is underrated

  • @daoyinyang can tell if mispelled game or put an A in gem?

  • can i dowload this game and how ? :D

  • WTF? Afro Samurai

  • This gameplay seems to be more smooth than WOTS 3's gameplay, why did they changed the gameplay to a worse one?

  • How does it taste?

    Bad...

    That's rude...

  • I stayed up late last night, playing Code of the Samurai, thinking i was playing Way of the Samurai, hahaha lol me. Today when i get home im going download this game, so i can play it. Still Code of the Samurai is a fun game but this one looks more hardcore.

  • I love this game, it's so underrated. :)

As for the afro guy, it's not so strange that a black guy would be in Meiji-era Japan. But yeah, the odds are stacked against the possibility that a black guy from America came to Japan and became a samurai. lol. And it's just not possible that he'd have that hairstyle. XD

    Anyway, fun game. :D

  • say word its the exact same as the psp version

  • Umm excuse me but this video kicks ass.

  • Blonde girl with the rapier is less of an anachronism since it is during the Meiji Restoration. It is not unfeasible for her to be there. Just highly unlikely. Afro Samurai on the other hand...

Way of the Samurai 4 REALLY needs to come out faster. I needs it.

  • The black guy looks like an anacronism. What year in Japan does this take place?

  • @godzillakotm Late Edo Period, I think. Not that I know anything about Japanese history. There's also a blonde girl with a rapier in the game LOL

  • I rather liked this game. Only problems with it, it was too short, and the character development was a bit lacking.

Other than that, I rather enjoyed the combat. And I've always been fascinated by Japan, especially the legends of the Samurai.

    Hai.

  • Outrun 2006, Way of the Samurai, Mario Party 4 and Harvest Moon: BTN are my favorite games!

  • this game is really good i have all 3 but i enjoy the gameplay of WotS2 but i love the creation-ship in wots3 now if only Christmas would come soon so wots4 will come out

  • This is on psp also

  • muito bom o jogo gostei muito

  • BUSHIDO

  • This game was fun but short and I hate the multiple endings with no one straight path making choices as you go, I mean you could play both sides if you wanted to but y'know what? Way of the Samurai 3 so it didn't completely bomb!

  • Damn wow this game looks frikin awesome, reminds me of Shadow of the colossos and ICO.

  • "Leave this pass"

    (leaves)

"You should not leave in the middle of my warning!"

  • Dying in this game is a PAIN IN THE FUCKING ASS.

  • I actually disliked the first, but the second one was something else, widh I had a PS3 just to see the third.

  • This is my favorite game of all time!A game that you control more than it controls you. This or the Sims are the best games of all. (Just my opinion)

  • I love this game! The gamplay is just amazing and the duel mode, epic! You can really tell who's a pro and a noob in this game. Awesome!

  • Oh my god i miss this game.. i had it on my ps2 YEARS ago and i played it constantly. finished the game at least 10 times. I really want it back =/

  • I loved the first and second game! The third was a downgrade from the second, the second was more "alive" and fun!

  • I played the hell out of this game back in the day. I'm playing Way of the Samurai 3 now and my character's name is Kenji. I just thought it was funny that the samurai in this video is named Kenji too.

  • This is one of the weirdest games I've ever played. Aside from the OK gameplay fighting style, I have just one question:

WHY THE HELL IS IT SO SHORT??!!

Seriously, you can finish it in an hour tops. So what's the point?

  • @supereldinho Multiple endings/weapons/etc to unlock.

Remember, the whole open-world game genre was very small on consoles when the game first came out. The ONLY notable open-world game on the PS2 at the time WotS came out was GTA III.

  • @supereldinho theres a couple of different endings

  • @Poopboy125 Yeah, I know. But still, it's very repetitive and there is little replay value. Although I do find this game good, the only thing I hate about it is that it's so short. Besides, I've played other, longer games with different endings and they were also good, but this one could've been so much better if it was at least 2 hours longer. But that's just my opinion.

  • @supereldinho I think I have to agree with you on that. Though I heard WoTS 4 is going to be longer, my problem with the game series is how easy it is to cheat the system by just killing and stealing for yen, get your sword forged, kill the blacksmith to get your money back and just rinse and repeat. I think the series would benefit if it drop that ability and made the game longer. Like... Oh, you spend a year in the town instead of just like two weeks.

  • I only played way of the samurai 3

  • old memory's

  • I've always been puzzled that the "main" storylines to the WotS games have been the shortest to accomplish.

  • My only gripe? TO FUCKING SHORT A STORY LINE!

  • I played the shit outta this game back in the day. I once decided to kill as many warriors as I could to see what my rank would say. So I killed 200 warriors and it said I was a Random Slasher, haha.

200 kills took a bit of time, but this game kicked so much ass that you were willing to test it's limits and various plot directions.

  • @Nixel85 You should have gone to the foundry. If you start killing the dude there, it enters into a battle, and you have to kill 100 people to exit. You get 10 yen for it.

  • @TSEpictures

i made better money at the bridge. Besides, the money didn't mean much after people dropped a couple weapon upgrades on the ground.

  • @Nixel85 No doubt. I just use the foundry if I want to be quick about it since the enemies are insanily easy.

  • I want this game for Wii with motion controls :) no red steel bullshit

  • This looks amazing. And its only 5.99 at gamestop.

Your videos inspired me to buy another PS2. I love your videos.

  • I was playing this today

  • can someone pls tell me how long it takes to finish this game in hours? i want buy it but when its too short then i have to thnik about it

  • I've only played WOS 3, I'm anxious to get both one and two for the ps2 but they are so hard to find. I ordered WOS 1 from amazon.. but 2 is really expensive ;_;. I guess I'll pick that up later. Anyways I liked and favored your video :D!

And subscribed because you earned it ! >:D!

  • I used to play this game religiously. The second one was horrid in comparison. The simplicity is what made this game. Way of the Samurai 3 should be considered the true sequel.

  • loved this game.

  • yea this game was sick, luvd the different endings

  • The best game ever.It makes me sad that everyone forgott it,but i still play it :) ...

  • I just reminded my brother in law of this game and he judt bought it. We stil have our Playstation two's even though they moved on to the up to date systems. We aren't getting rid of our stuff like most peoplr.

  • Just bought this game last week because I remembered it being fun back in the day. It really is an underrated game.

  • Holy crap I rented this so many years ago and me and my cousin played it to death. Such a weird game, but it had its moments

  • I had a Japanese version of this, and I remembered last I play this, it was around a sunset time and a whole bunch of samurais were kicking my ass, because I just randomly click through the dialogues so I doesnt know what I talked to them, when I was almost killed and on the ground, I randomly kicked up a few carrots and my HP was fulled again...

That was pretty interesting and funny lol

  • J'adorais ce jeu avant

  • lol he runs so gay. I barely remember this game, but It was alright back when it came out

  • wtf is the second bad guy doing there ? OR IS HE HE BOSS? lol :D

  • I wish this game was longer, it's awesome!

  • i bought this game today

five mins after i told my cousin about this game and how rare it is i saw it on the used section at gamestop and got it for 6 bucks!!!

  • That was such a fun game. My friends and I played it so many times.

  • The games are so rare in my city. Way of the Samurai has it's pros over SAMURAI 2. That being, the diversity of attacks for each sword/weapon. SAMURAI 2 lacks that. But in SAMURAI 2, there more places to go, more things to do, more endings, more GAMEPLAY (SAMURAI 1 was too short), and more characters to choose from. I have not played SAMURAI 3 yet, I wonder if it's good?

  • 0:46

    PILLZ!

  • @TheBipolarGemini Oh, they also have gone and done the same with the Yakuza series. I don't mean a western Yakuza game, but instead a Yakuza feudal japan game. Again its Japan PS3 only

  • @TheBipolarGemini was it any good? I mean if its total trash, I'll try not to waste my time.

  • Whats Afro Samurai doing in this game?!

  • @yaz1014 yea and this game came out a while before the show

  • @yaz1014 idk maybe they wanted him in a china game just like a bruce lee movie

  • @yaz1014 Actually I'm wondering why would a samurai be using a fuckin' afro... and where did he get it?

  • This game is epic!!

ever played Ronin Blade aka Soul of the Samurai? its awesome also

  • wtf i want this

  • I remember this game, it was so good i never beated it, have u played Berzerk? or Bujingai? or Shinobi? I Think u should add those tho the Underrated Gems, And i insist u shoul talk in te videos xD

  • Big fan of Way of the Samurai 2 and 3, need to try out the original sometime soon. They may be a little clunky, but if you have some patience they are great samurai games.

  • Ah I missed this game..never tried the second one though..

  • Comment removed

  • @vfgjhj cant u save? :<

  • @oomsbun I take back what I said, after I beat ONE of the endings I realized saving wasn't really that important since you can beat one of the endings in like 3 hours. The saving system is still flawed though.

  • wtf is afro samuri doing there

  • I love the ending where you die with your samurai friend fighting off that huge army on the bridge. "We will show them how to fight and die, like true samurai!" So epic.

  • Wow, this brings back fond memories of Sword of the Samurai.

  • loved this game

  • Man, I always love it when the music kicks in.

  • @teh2Dgamer i love your underrated gem series. when ps3 came out the ps2 was eclipsed. its about damn time someone gave some classics a little spotlight. thank you

  • this game is so fuckin epic the story is really well thought

  • "How does it taste?"

    "Bad."

    "..."

  • Such an awesome game.

LOL @ "I won't make you wait. Please wait here."

  • CHECK OUT MY BAD QUALITY BUT SKILLFULL WOTS VIDEO

  • Choose Your Own Adventure kind of games can be both good and bad.

So far, the only ones like that that i find good or ok is this and Heavy Rain.

And boy, do i love this CYOA kind of game.

  • Yeah this game is awesome!!!

  • like many other commenters, i really appreciate this series of videos. :] this game was one of my first experiences with the ps2. never was quite sure what the title was...until now that is :] thanks!

  • lol the original Afro Samurai

  • one of my FAVORITE!!! games for ps2

  • What's awesome about this, is that it's like one of those books of Choose your own Adventure and you can choose which side you're in !

  • lol afro-samurai! does this remind anyone else of the Samurai Champloo series?

  • this game is awesome, i just made a video to the song it plays at dusk, this game changed my life

  • One of my all-time favorite classics. This truly was underated. No amount of reviews or bashing from "hardcore"gamers can deter me from this game. The way the story unfolds based upon your actions is simply stunning for a game of its time. I believe it has more choices that some games that claim such.

  • for the time this it was released, id say it was fantastic. it still is a genius game. and i just played some. i love it! anyone that is fan of 3D-freeroam adventure games and the Samurai setting MUST play this game.

  • where can I get this version of the game, cause I have an version, but its in japanese and I cannt read ._.

  • how is this compared to the second one?

  • @asdasdqweqwe2131 Not sure. I haven't had time to play the second one yet.

  • @teh2Dgamer You Need to make some time for part two. It was truly a sleeper hit, virtually no coverage here in america. Same incredible replay value, sword collection, variable endings simple amazing.

I think also you left out one thing about part one, if I'm not mistaken after you beat it you can unlock a 2 player duel mode

  • @Samrezzal04 I forgot about the duel mode.

  • @teh2Dgamer There is a third one out now too. Its very good. There is a feature where you can make your own sword. You can choose the handle, hand guard, sheath and what style you use. You can even name it. The third one is the best i think by far

  • @Samrezzal04 I was not fond on part 2 and I own and only beat it once, it did not flow as well as the first one, the 3rd one was better than the 2nd but came out at a time i could not put as much time into it

  • @Samrezzal04 The second one is good, but the first one is better in some regards. Like, for example, the speech system is far better in the first game. I don't know why more people like the first one more, though. I personally like them both equally, as they're pretty similar.

  • @teh2Dgamer I have always wanted to play this game. Might pick it up today.

  • @asdasdqweqwe2131 It's a bit better imo. The second one is good too, I've heard 3 sucks though.

  • @UnholyWarcry WoTS 3 was ok. After you beat it a few times it gets really boring.

  • @asdasdqweqwe2131 Also, from what I remember with the comparison between the two, countering from my experience is executed better in the first of the series than in the second. In saying, countering from what I have seen in part 2 is a means for an instant kill where in part 1 you can throw your opponent off balance if they dare rush an attack and take advantage. Another matter of part 2 that I was indifferent about was the addition of a map not found in part 1.

  • @asdasdqweqwe2131 I like the first one alittle more it's shorter then the second but it's easier to get into the story. While the second one took some getting use to and was a much less memorable experience.

  • @asdasdqweqwe2131 Pretty good. WotS2 has more in the way of content for the most part, and the first one had no voice acting, but in spite of that it's still worth playing. A lot of the gameplay is the same, if less polished. One of the features of one that was lost in the sequel is the ability to actually walk from place to place, instead of going to a map screen. All in all, number two is a little bit easier but the first one has a bit more realism.

  • @asdasdqweqwe2131 Yeah, urm 2nd one was defo not a sleeper hit.

Long loading times between areas, choppy frame rates in the battles made for an inferior sequel, and I played them back-to-back; meaning it felt all the more disappointing and jarring in combat.

I just could not understand why the heck the 2nd game lost its fluid feel of battles. Well, then it dawned on me, it's due to the larger 3D rendered areas, it just bogged down the combat.

  • I have this game and the first time I played it I found it very annoying because I wasn't yet used to its style but after I had gotten used to it I found it enjoyable.

  • damn this game wasted countless hours of my life, haha, great game, something about it was just.... AWESOME!

  • If only the ronin didnt walk like that... I just cant overpass it!

  • Wow, this was one of my favorite games growing up. I must've played it through a hundred times! I still have it, I think and it's really cool that someone else has played it. You cover a bunch of my favorite games, like WinBack. Kinda cool that someone else remembers those random games that I played as a child.

  • I actually really enjoyed this game also. It was just something very different to me and though short I really like the idea of collecting different weapons. The only one of these I did not like was Samurai Western though. It just wasn't what I was expecting it to be. Probably unfair of me, but when I played it, I was looking for a game relative to this or its sequel.

  • I really enjoyed playing this game--even went through it a few times to get the multiple endings. It had a kind of charm that isn't in a lot of games today, and it doesn't happen often, but I actually grew to like the characters in the game a lot.

  • What heck are peoples problems!?! I loved this game! It was one of the most unique, if rather short, experiences in the entire ps2 library! The adventure was short but you could play through it like 10 times and get different results each time. I recommend to everyone to try this out.

  • If this had the "fatal blow" thing with Bushido Blade it'd be awesome. But it's a really cool game on it's own. :)

  • Afrosamurai? 3:49 lol.

  • i love this game. like no one in my neighborhood had this game. everyone thought it was stupid because you 'died too easy' to which i responded, "only if you suck at it"

good game, glad you reviewed it because it is definitely an overlooked gem.

  • Have you ever played Samurai Western? I think you'd like it.

  • @LewisLongshanks I just recently got it. I've yet to give it a playthrough though.

  • @teh2Dgamer

Sweet. Samurai Western was actually released under the buget 505 Gamestreet line here in Europe and thus it is rather limited. That said, 505 Gamestreet did release the only English versions of the Simple 2000 games - most of which are bloody awful lol.

  • @teh2Dgamer samurai western is the 3rd one, the 2nd one is less awkward than the first, and you need to hone ur skills ;), oh and the 4th or 3rd is on ps3

  • @EMagnificent Samurai Western should not be linked to the struggling (due to what I've been reading about the 4th one) but by god do I love it, WotS series. Atlus published SW and have not touched any of the WotS series, which I actually would see as a positive thing, despite SW being an epic fail of a game. Rising Zan: The Samurai Gunman on the PSOne is way better if anyone wants some samurai/western action.

    Way of the Samurai 1&2 - PS2

    Way of the Samurai 3&4 - PS3 (xb360 got the 3rd also)

  • @Blahdabbadoo really? gonna grab the 3rd one today then!!!

  • @teh2Dgamer You have to soon. I've never heard of the game, and I'm a huge Samurai fan.

  • I remember trying this game briefly when a friend of mine rented it, that night we each tried it and none of them seemed to like it. I told them it was their loss and started to play my file further then any of them had gotten, shown them the new techniques and blades you can get amongst other things and they were bittergreen in the end. I loved this game and its sequel but I unfortunately haven't been able to get a copy to own of either.. makes me so envious. Thanks for sharing these videos!

  • Afro Samurai!!!!

wow every thing you do counts

  • Afro Samurai!!!!

  • I also think this was too underrated, lots of players just want to rush through a game trying to get everything the first time and be done with it. WoS was made to be replayed and explored, I always loved the fact that your choices actually effected the GAME, not just the ending. Most "choose a side" type games end up with a good or bad ending only, and even those are marginally different. Still among my top 5 games ever.

  • this game is a underated gem. luckily they made way of the samurai 3 now with even more features!!

  • this game was so bad....you meant "overrated" in the title right?

  • @Shockerbv To each his own. However, the nearly 50,000 views on this vid tell me that a lot of people don't agree with your opinion, but you're still entitled to it.

  • @Shockerbv this game was awesome man........

  • This game was harder than a wooden dick.

  • Thank you for making these. I'm actually going to buy this game now.

  • I think I once saw a gameplay video of a Capcom Samurai game where the sword play was realistic (one hit, one kill kinda play). Would you happen to know of such a game?

  • Has anyone ever gotten Tamagawa's sword in this game??

  • @anth42789 Hmmm... I can't remember, I got Tesshin (was that his name?)'s sword, though. And Chel's... that one was hard, I got it when she was killed one playthrough during the finale, I could never bring myself to kill her xD

  • @Bttscks idr what it was called, but i got it though :D and Chelsea was my Baby!! Awe man! If only she was "real" with a myspace -_-

  • Considering that one good playthrough is just about 2 hours, the fact I've been playing this game every day for a few weeks is pretty telling. The fighting is awesome, and the quest to collect and perfect swords can be addictive :'(

  • To me i think why this was an underated game is because it was WAY past it's time and this game required patience as well and in this day and age and even back in 2002 gamers didn't have time to create their own adventure.

  • i freakin love this game i miss it i need a new copy now.

  • much more realistic samurai game. i think i like this game rather than dynasty warriors' games

  • this game was so legit

  • This game is fucking dope!!

i remember when i first got it

    amazing!!
