hey i have a 99 tahoe and i brought a spacer but it was missing screws called the place i got it from they said i have the right one. should i tell them to look under a older year like 96 to 2000 cause i have the older body style with the 5.7 motor can some one help me out
Hey, I have an 01 Tahoe with a 5.3L in it... I need a new intake system and want a throttle body... Does Airaid sell theirs as a package? Do you guys? Thanks!
@vansglyde21 I checked our part number database and Airaid has both an intake and a TBS for your Tahoe. As far as I know, no one sells them as a package, but I'd be happy to hook you up with a package deal. There are several different options for your vehicle... Airaid MPX intake, standard intake, oiled or dry filter, TBS with or without nitrous port, etc. Let me know which part numbers you want and I'll set you up with a special price.
I just installed one of these on my 2011 Nissan frontier and I have problems with it idling too high. Its idles at about 1100 warmed up. The service engine light is on now also. Any ideas what the cause of this could be?
@JRTFrontier Hard to say without seeing it, but it sounds like an issue with the throttle cable. I would investigate that and make sure it's been reinstalled properly, and that there is nothing causing a kink in it. If that looks ok, you could try adjusting the throttle cable tension.
This is how you inprove mpg; 1. USE PREMIUM FUEL ONLY !!!!! It eliminates "spark knock", "bogging", and poor throttle response. 2. Keep spark plugs, air filter, and cap/rotor (if equiped) clean. 3. Routine oil changes, use semi or full synthetic if possible. 4. Always check tire pressure. 5. Row up the damn window, and turn on the A/C. Driving with the window down creates a "parachute effect". 6. Run a can of Sea Foam through the brake booster vac line, with engine running at 2,000 RPM.
@89Carfreak i pity these people who dont listen! TB spacers are like a placebo! It only feels like its helping because you "WANT" it to help but it doesnt! Go to any reputable truck forum, chevy dodge ford, anything and type in spacer! see what real truck guys have to say about this! Its been known to REDUCE POWER due to the so called "helix" design that interrupts the airflow! the only thing this is cool for is that little whistle sound it makes lol, kinda like a turbo,
@89Carfreak if you really want to try it out, go to fleabay(ebay) and buy a knock off one from there, 40 bucks shipped and it look identical to this, try it out.. no help whatsoever... want to save gas? make sure your truck has a fresh tune up, clean injectors and go easy on the throttle. Want more power? A customized tune will do that for about 300-400 dollars! Dont have that kinda money to spend?? well guess what jackass, I just saved you 100 by not buying this crap, thats a start!! good luck!
@Aqrab1 It certainly can, but how much depends on your engine, other modifications and how you drive. I'd recommend going to our site (there's a link directly underneath the video) and read through the product reviews. Make sure to select your vehicle! :)
@Tungsten23 Yes we do: our Volant intakes include a 1-year low price guarantee and we'll ship it to anywhere in the lower 48-states for free. If you have any other questions, please give us a call: 800.544.8778
I have a 07 chevy silverado 6.0. I bought the k&n cold air intake plus the throtle body spacer. I spent over 350 dollars but its worth it. Gain even more power and saves me gas
Hey their, i have a 07 tundra and bought the tbs, how do i know if i have the throttle body spacer the wrong way? ive tried it both ways and i can hear the whistle either way. i bought the taylor tbs though. And will my car mess up if its incorrect? Also i have it installed and for some reason my rpms are in between 1.5-2 wich is abnormal any suggestions? asap please
@silverdiaz7 The engraved side of the Taylor Cable TBS should face the throttle body. The orientation is important, so make sure it is facing the correct way.
Regarding the high idle... hard to say without seeing it, but it sounds like the throttle cable may be getting pinched or pulled on, causing a high idle. I would recommend taking a close look at that, and then reviewing the install guide to make sure everything is installed correctly.
@AutoAnything I have a Bank's power cold air intake, bully dog tuner, high flow exhaust, better spark plug's and 8 1/2 mill wires on my vortech silverado. Will the throttle body spacer help a little more if I put one on?
@CSXtrackworker You should see some additional gain, probably 6-8 HP... maybe 10 since you have other supporting mods. The problem you'll run into is fitment: throttle body spacers don't always fit with aftermarket intakes. Some people make them fit by modifying the intake tubes... usually cutting off an inch or two will create enough room for the TBS. My advice would be to ask around and see if anyone else is running a TBS and Banks intake on their Silverado. Hope that helps, good luck!
@AutoAnything Thanks for getting back to me. I will def look into it now. I have another question. I saw that you sell the jet power flow mass air sensor for my truck. Would it make it run too rish if I installed that as well with the throttle body spacer. I saw some guys said they had no problems with there silverado's and some that said they did with the engine light comeing on?
@CSXtrackworker Can't say for sure, but installing an aftermarket MAF sensor can do some strange things to your A/F ratio... especially if you've got other mods installed. If you decide to go with an aftermarket MAF, I would recommend getting a custom tune on the dyno, that'll make sure your engine doesn't get outside of the safety range.
@crazywarriorman It depends on what engine and vehicle you have...sometimes they fit, sometimes they don't. Let me know what you've got and I'll see if there is a fitment guide.
@crazywarriorman I spoke with AirAid. They told me that, for your 2000 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3-Liter, their throttle body spacer will fit with their cold air intake. They do not do any product testing with K&N products, so they cannot guarantee it will fit. So if you haven't bought the intake yet, take a look at AirAid intakes.
PS: We have an anniversary sale on our site today: 15% off orders of $150 or more. So you can get a killer deal on an intake and throttle body spacer!
What's the point on adding a throttle body spacer on a silverado? The silverado has a vortec engine, it already spins the air. That's how they GM design the vortec engine. So what's the point adding a throttle body spacer?
@Hazardousturkz Even on Vortec engines, throttle body spacers can offer improved performance, throttle response and fuel economy. The gains are more noticeable on modified engines.
i am getting one along with a cold air intake! i want to do this myself but i have never done anything like it before. is it do-able for a beginner is basically what im asking?!
@alore57 Throttle body spacers are a bolt-on mod and many people install these in their garage. The video gives a pretty good explanation of what it takes to do the job... if you think you can do it, give it a shot, but if it looks like something you don't want to mess with, then I'd recommend taking it to a local mechanic.
i want to get one, but on my 2000 silverado i have a spectre cold air intake and the tube is already very close to the farn cover/fan so i was wondering how i could get around that?
I just installed one of these on my ls1, no noticable increase in acceleration, it makes a whistling noise...thats about it, its worth maybe $20. these are seriously overpriced!!! I didnt buy mine, it came attached to a manifold I bought...
So, unless you get it for free, dont waste your money...
@jeepdriver713 We did not need to make any adjustments on our 2009 Silverado, but there are some vehicles that require throttle body cable adjustment. Included in the box is a vehicle-specific installation guide from Airaid. If adjustment is required, it will cover this step.
i honestly dont think people would buy a full size truck for mpg or performance. besides, throttle body spacers have been proven to do absolutely nothing.
@pepene93 ....trucks are for performance as much as any sports car......its just a different look......kind of like the difference between a chevy camero and a ford mustang......they both have good engines but people choose one or the other for the look
@buckshotbandit15 you really think 300hp in a 8000lb vehicle is ever going to be comparable to a 200hp engine in a 3000lb vehicle? besides, trucks/suvs have no handling to speak of.
Great How-To Video! I'm curious though, if throttle body spacers improve both horsepower and mpg's for less than $150, why aren't they factory installed? I'm looking to purchase one for my F150, I just bought a K&N Air Intake. What would you suggest? Thanks.
@sodedit Auto manufacturers make many design decisions based on cost. They usually have a target price-range they need to be in, which is why most vehicles don't have high-flow catalytic converters, exhaust, air filters, intakes, etc.
Sometimes there are fitment issues with aftermarket CAI's. If you're interested in the AirAid throttle body spacer, give us a call so we can double check that before you order. 800-544-8778.
