I understand that having egg on your face means to have embarrassed one own self.

E.G. You go to great lengths to argue that someone is wrong and maybe even make them out to be really stupid and ignorant...then suddenly you realize that they ARE right and YOU are wrong.

  • Who stole my clothes and let me with an egg on my face!

  • Well done! Brilliant! Marvellous! I have just enjoyed it a lot.

  • Hello, nice vide there!!! but, spacepope not to like eggs!Peace

  • This is a great video. Thanks for sharing.

  • cuz they are bloody idioms. try not to be logical while learning idioms cuz idioms are a bit crazy

  • At 2*30 you say "as eggs IS eggs...", but why not "as eggs ARE eggs..."?

  • @IFoundMyUsername Logically and grammatically, eggs are eggs, but idiomatically, eggs is eggs! So idioms are not necessarily logical or grammatical. Idiomatic basically means non-standard speech.

  • @IFoundMyUsername

    Hi

It is local dialect in many parts of the UK. Makes no sense I can imagine when learning English!!, but is just the way it is said.

"Is" is used as a replacement for the more plural "are" a lot where I live in South West England.

    Hope helps!

  • @prboyd It is the first time I hear is as plural. I'll pay more attention . Thank you.

  • @IFoundMyUsername If it helps, the origin of this phrase is thought to be a bad pun on `As sure as x=x.'. This might be apocryphal though. 寒いですね (笑)。

  • this clip makes me wish I'd never learned Egglish ...I mean English ...sheesh
