But I've a question. I also have a telecaster (mexican) and the vox ac 30. But I don't have the same sound that you have at all ! Mine is rather acute and I don't listen a lot of warmth.. What's your secret ?? :D Sorry for my english, I speak french :)
@simjour Hi and thanks. I have made public now how my sound setup was when I recorded it. The video is called "Sound setup for: A few licks on VOX AC30CC2 & Telecaster". The Boss compressor gives much to the softer tone. But I admit...it took me forever to adjust the AC30 - almost went nuts...then I sold it. Now I miss it :-)
Hi. The only experience I have of any Dr. Z amps is listening to Brad Paisley (insanely jealous of that man's talent .... and yours after seeing your videos). I don't think his Z's remotely resemble the one's that you or I can buy! I'm building an extension speaker cab for the Vox with a single Alnico Blue just to beef up the sound a bit and even out the carrying load. Shame that Vox only markets the twin speaker extension but I guess that will sound superb with the AC30 top amp!
@srt4yall Hey man - I used to play a Tele thru a Boogie LS Special but I'm now using a Vox AC15HW1X and it beats the Boogie hands down for country tone - besides the Mesa was unreliable, 2 sets of power valves in a year and amp only used around 4 hours a week!
@fivetrax Hi there. Nice to hear. How would you rate the DR Z MAZ compared to AC15HW1X ?...Im thinking about getting a maz. I miss the EL84 but the AC30 was a mofo to carry around and to big for my small room.
@Guppy915 Thanks Guppy...yeah...I must admit that sometimes I miss the AC30...I had a heck of setup period with it and gave up and swapped to Twin. But there's something wonderfull about the EL84 amps. DR Z on my wishlist.
That was just amazing. I could listen to you play all day. Awesome licks and AMAZING tone. it just sound so sexy. If your tone was a woman, i'd fuck the shit out of her :D
@tony642321 Thanks. I'm using a BOSS CS-2 compressor.- but you are right that the AC has good tone sag compared to other amps. Carefull with that CS-2 ;-)
The tone is incredible and the playing is even BETTER! You are one hell of a player, man. I just picked a used AC30cc2 up today, and suffice it to say that tomorrow's gig is gonna be a blast.
Absolutley beautiful tones man. I just got that amp yesterday and i also have a tele. What kind of tubes are you running in the baby? I want to get some jj's perhaps but then again i'm not sure haha
@MigelMeUp Thanks. That's one of the best comments for a long time. The whole goal of our youtubing should be INSPIRATION!!!....that's the way I use it ;-)
@viceisthename The AC-30 is the amplifier that became forever linked with The Beatles and the British Invasion. So indeed the amp for Beatles songs :-)
Very nice! I am a country tele picker too. I am looking into getting an AC30 but maybe with the alnico blues or alnico gold (if I can afford them...). The stock speakers sound great too. Do remember what your settings are on the amp? Also, what did you use to record the audio? Keep up the good pickin'!
@minnesotaleadpicker Thanks. Settings on the amp was: Normal channel, Gain at noon. Set capacitor switch to modern on backside. You cant miss getting the sound - it sooo easy. I recorded it with a Røde NT-2 Condenser mike. Remember either Keeley or Boss CS-2 Compressor and you're in heaven :-) Keep pickin'
@lambadalasse Yeah, I guess it's hard to get a bad sound on an AC30! Yes I have used and loved both of those compressors. I have been using the Comp 66 by Visual Sound lately. It is just 1/2 of their Route 66 which has an overdrive also. I think I like it just as much as the Keeley and BOSS (and it's 1/2 the price of a Keeley). You ought to try using some delay instead of reverb. I just replaced my cheap digital delay with an MXR Carbon Copy analog delay. Best delay I've ever used!!! Thanks!
Hey lammbdalasse - We are almost neighbors - the Black forest istn´t far from Denmark!
Nice tasty pickin and a beautiful dry fat and twangy sound. My son the pop musician plays a AC30 and I´m gonna lend him my 59 RI Bassman and steal his Vox for a while.
Do you know Richard Thompsons "Grizzly Man" soundtrack. The same sound as yours but on a Strat in the Bridge-Mid position. If you would like the CD you can mail me I´ll get it to you.
Can you get this sound on stage in a live setting.
No - I haven't changed anything on it. Standard Wharfedale speakers. Its a great amp. Also for recorning very easy to get good sound from. EL84 tubes are sweeeet :-)
I'm using Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 on the bridge. (only one used here). The others are Joe Barden on neck and a some fake strat pup in the middle. Cheers / Lars M
