I'm a bit of an old lady--43--loved the Strangle'rs as a kid and still own many vinyl albums of many~as much as I enjoy you tube & finding old stuff, I so like finding vinyl @ garage sales, etc, & collecting. Not ready for a Nook~ love the written page!
this is how I remember them, raw,not too sophisticated ( as they can be nowadays) passionate and technically brilliant. that jj was a bit of fit too!!! still is.
Seen Hugh amost 2 years ago, it was epic, played mosly Stranglers songs and few from Hoover... Loved it, but without Greenfield, it's not the same....
we have moved through many music era's since this. (Ska, New Romantic, Rock again!) Then just all the nonsense since them, (Spice clowns??, Take What? ) & all the hip/ hop trash....sheer disposable music, then we still have the Stranglers, who have throughout, offered quality, diversity, class, and JET BLACK of course!!! Beat That!!
Black & White is a superb album and yet overlooked in a lot of ways. For a third album when probably everyone thought they'd be shot it was an incredible piece of work. And they came up with 4 classic albums in two years. No messing about in those days.
i stupidly gave away the free single that came with 1st pressings of Black on White on white vinyl with walk on by on it to a "m8" who promised it back
just check out the originality its brilliant, such a same HC left for his own reasons,he was the VOICE et al,can't get enough of these boys, recently saw Damned at Hammy who were great followed by some wally band Motorhead,my God how shit are they ! NO music, just NOISE ! sorry Lemmy, give it up !
Kate Bush was knocked out by the Raven album. She's brilliant. She was shocked how somebody could be as angulalr as her ( she was in the next studio and had the sexy rudness to walk in!) Check out that male pig album!.
I was going to put thi up against Dream Theater but Hugh is pretty wacked here. Can somebody segue a cool version on to them to shut them East Coast hippies, please?
He'S My hero. H'ss definitlely far far far funnier than Beefheart, Dylan and Van Morrison but he's under the influence here. He's a good man doing a tour this week , I saw him in Birmingham one time, has a voice a room fillling voice like that! oooh, If my book works out you and JJ will talk.
The Stranglers Black and White. A collection of songs that exude bleak war torn imagery and references the cold war dystopia to great effect. The Black side sought to capture death and post apocalyptic destruction with a stark sneer of cold command, whilst the white side reflected a libertarian utopian landscape where robots rule and armies conquer.
these guys were unique - so melodic and at the same time gritty - saw them 17 times, was @ battersea park (14 years old)... but i didn't like La Folie, and after Aural Sculpture i never bought another record of theirs. but this one's a classic.
@wi11ydapimp YOU KNOW , ME TOO. I FOLLOWED THEM FOR YEARS, EVEN GOT TO KNOW THEM ACTUALLY BUT CALLED IT A DAY AFTER AURAL. HOWEVER THEY ARE BACK WITH VENGENCE , I LOVE THEIR NEW STUFF.
the version from the complilation album 'all live and all of the night' is the best one for me: more energy than this one, although i havn't seen it yet..
this is one of the Stranglers best songs, black and white is quite a good album albeit a lot of people dont think so, it's underrated. I hate to admit it but Hugh's playing doesnt do justice in this live performance!
Yes, they actually did. I think A Flock Of Seagulls got their name because of a line in this song that says A Flock Of Seagulls and also because of this book, I think. You should search them up on Wikipedia or see the video when they were on TOTP since there were facts coming on the screen and stuff. :D hope this helps!
doesnt get any better than the glers i remember stealin all my big brothers albums an gettin my 8 shades of shit kicked out of me for it {haha} well worth it. the most underrated band ever. wouldnt have it any other way though. death an night an blood.
Fantastic! "A flock of seagulls, a flock of seagulls"!!! I am bias to anything of the Black and White album, in my opinion their best piece of studio work.

Think this is hard for them to do live. It should be a lot tighter. Sounds great on black and white.
