Shes too sweet of a bird to bite or anything I remember walking in a pet store and a bunch of them started preening my hair and it spooked me because I didnt know what was going on. Still cute bird :)
God... The pro tips of all those self esteemed bird experts are so goddamn annoying!
So many people, that quite obviously don't own a bird but still seem to know everything better... Every goddamn bird video on youtube... You always get those "oh my god, that's not safe, because blablablargldiblah" or "poor bird for no reason" or "Birds need to be free maaaaan"-assholes...
So frekkin annoying...
Very cute bird. Two of mine do that too, sometimes and it's just lovely.
It's so nice to see a man accepting affection like this from a cute little bird. You're lucky to have them both :) My one tiel does the same thing. These people don't understand that an owner knows when the bird might be aggressive. This is not dangerous. These birds are very predictable and very loving. Thanks for the vid.
Thats what my cockatiel does! She chews on my earings or glasses! <3 She is so cute! She gives me kisses too :D And everytime I put her on her cage to get a drink or something, she flies down and chirps as if to say "Wait for me!" She also puts her head down for me to scratch it! Cockatiels are the cutest things ever! ;)
They will nibble on anything that they can reach, and there tongues are small and dry not really wet..sometimes they can get to exited and actually bite like a mole or tug on ear rings and stuff.. She is a very sweet white face Cockatiel. >.<
Your videos are so awesome! I want to go into breeding birds and your videos help (especially the hand feeding ones). Thank you for uploading these :D
What an adorable little girl, aaaaww. That's so sweet! . . My cockatiel grooms my hair once in a while.. but usually he just tilts his head back and forth when Im rubbing his neck, or presses his beak against my face and 'cuddles' with me when we're laying down and watching tv together ^.^
I have a 13 yr. old hen. She's so gentle, tender and lovable. I LOVE her so much. I cannot even leave a room and she's in hot pursuit. Cockatiel hens don't talk; but they understand 'everything'. She knows my commands. She follows me, everywhere.
awww such a sweet bird. my pigeon which i totally raised from egg does this but i always adore cockatiel more. how much time did it take u to train ashlee ?
i used to let mine out of the cage in the morning i'd wake up and one would be on my hip puffed up asleep and the other starin at me then the one that stares decided he wanted to rearrange my eyebrow hair
@stargazrt4 that's right, cause the cockatiel expresses his affect "cleaning" the others :) My cockatiel does the same thing, but dont let it cure your mouth, cause our saliva is dangerous for them|
I've had my cockatiel for years now and while he can nip at hands sometimes, he has never bitten anything on my face. Cockatiels use people's faces and bodies to identify their flock members (owners)...but they can be quite hand shy and see hands, no matter who's, as predatory...especially if they've been mishandled at the pet store.
We used to have a cockatiel named Corny [Originally Cornelius, until my parents found out that he was actually a she!], and she would nibble on my dad's mustache. Whenever he'd shave his mustache she would be VERY upset! She passed away several years ago at about 14 years of age... But we have other cockatiels now too. We love them so much!
HAHA my Tøffen did the same to me xD and it was such a fun thing, because when she was inside the cage, and I layed my eye into the cage, she just JUMPET into me, and bit my lashes!! X D
It is evident that Ashlee has chosen Daddy to be her mate. This type of grooming is a sign of bonding. My daughter's cockatiel, Clyde, does this to me. Clyde also loves kissing. He pecks me on the back of the head and then comes down my arm a little when he wants a kiss. Cockatiels like to chew on anything that sticks up and as such, make great pimple removers! Adorable bird.
@stargazrt4 That's amazing. My cockatiel acts downright hostile to my wife and daughter, but treats me like a mate. Each bird is individual and some can be different.
@SimplyCouture I think it's not unusual for cockatiels. Mine is just like that. He practically lives on me, like a barnacle stuck to the hull of a ship. If I put him on the table, and walk away, he panicks and tweets his little heart out until I return. More than 4' away and he thinks I'm abandoning him!
i have a cinamon, male, hand raised baby cockatiel, and let me tell you he is the MOST precious thing. he gives kisses, preens my eye lashes, plays, cuddles, makes me laugh and is my best friend. :)
well, if you really want a cockatiel that is affectionate and tame, i would advise you to get a hand raised one, much easier to tame because they are still babies, and basically used to being socalised with. but if you want to do it on your own, you can get just a normal cockatiel. and if you want one that talks and sings, get a male.
I'm really thinking about getting a cockatiel. . . How do you socialize them when they are young so they turn out to be affectionate? Thanks! :) And she is precious!
my bird did that with his little girlfriend ^_^ but since she flied away with all the other 3 birds he was lonely so i spent more time with him now and he is affectionate too.and i miss the other three :(
My father has a "mario" mustache and one of the tiels we owned used to preen his mustache from start to end... was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. Ashlee seems to show similar affection; very nice. =)
aww..thats adorable!, shes preening you like she would a friend cockatiel, guess its her way of telling you she considers you her family :) cats do the same when they lick their owners ...
man this remind me of my bird....but he died about a week ago he used to do this to me all the time after he was done singing T_T I miss my bird. Yoshi R.I.P
when you got that cockatiel was it hand reared cuase my arnt and they wont let any1 touch them they go mental and fly round there cage they are very noisy and talk back but dont like to be handled any ideas on how i can let them out of there cage n them to like it and come to me
LOL, my sweet Lila bird, used to do that endlessly to my beard and mustache.
(BTW,everybody, if they'll allow it, don't forget to reciprocate by (gently!) "scritching" your birdie's head and neck. They seem to take that as a human's clumsy effort to preen and they appreciate you trying to "return the favor". )
really enjoyed this....my girl is starting to come around...she's mean, but she comes to me from across the room. Took my first shower with her today. Loved this video
I agree, my lovebird used to bite me, but now she'll preen my face, ears, eyes (and eyelids), and lick the water off my sholder and neck after ive showered and rinsed fully AAAANNND send me skwealing across the floor cause it tickles. X3 its all a matter of trust with all animals. Cute vid too! ^___^!!!
I can also also understand Codenautas concern I would be so scared the bird would bite me. I am a easily scared person also so that is probably be scared in the first plays.
You wouldn't have to worry like that, there are various ways to tell by a Birds Behavior when you pick them up or if you have raised them to be trained properly, they would not hurt you,This Birdy is one such example.
So sweet....I hand raised an abandoned cockatiel last year. Her mom refused to take care of her. I gave the cockatiel to a friend when she was fully feathered and weaned. I still visit her all the time!
I love Ashlee! I laugh everytime I see the vide of you feeding Ashlee.
Nothing like a bird preaning a person .Very cute my mickey budgies does this also even to little kids with the help of a mirror to get him to play with them lol
Isn't it a little dangerous to permit the bird to stay so close the eyes? I know the bird is tame, but it is an animal, he can decide sudenly to bite, and even a soft bite can be dangeros for the eyes. They used to bite everything in front of them, even as kidding. He can look the pupil, and bite as curiosity.
Probably too paranoid. Birds rarely bite without a reason. Ashlee has no reason to bite. I do understand your concern, however, and we wouldn't take that risk if we thought she would hurt him.
It always amazes me how gentle birds are with their beaks when doing these "friendly" gestures. Our budgie likes to perch on our glasses and do our eyebrows... (Can't get at the eyelashes because of the glasses...) Great vid!
awwwwwwwe my tiel Sancho does the same thing al the time with my eyebrows & eyelashes soooooo cute & hes 4 & has never bit me or my husband-

Am I too paranoid? :o)

Probably too paranoid. Birds rarely bite without a reason. Ashlee has no reason to bite. I do understand your concern, however, and we wouldn't take that risk if we thought she would hurt him.

buddie does that to me all the time. its pretty cool!!!!

It always amazes me how gentle birds are with their beaks when doing these "friendly" gestures. Our budgie likes to perch on our glasses and do our eyebrows... (Can't get at the eyelashes because of the glasses...) Great vid!
