  • simple fix . but savage will fix it.

  • sir , you need to call savage and they should fix it asap . good luck

  • i would have said it could have slam fired. meaning when ever you close the action, that it fires. but the safety thing i have no idea. But like jesusbeiliever63 said, it could have a really bad trigger job, maybe even too light of a trigger pull. hope you get everything straightened out. i would call savage and see what they say.

  • When you get your gun straightened out a lot of us would love to know what was wrong & what you had to do to fix it. I've already vowed to never buy from Cabela's after the flashlight rip-off , seriously doubt you'll ever go back

  • Gonna agree with previous comments. Probably a bad self trigger job someone did. May have a rounded seer or adjusted way too light. Pull the trigger guard there is a a set screw on the trigger that adjust how deep the seer sits on the the trigger it may be set too far out giving it a hair trigger. I had a Savage just like that that's the only thing I can think. If you have already looked into that them I'm not sure. I have Savages and love them. Take care stay safe.

  • Seems like they should let you bring it in the store if you walk in with the bolt of the rifle first, then the rest of the rifle. I would try with bolt in hand going to a different Cabelas explaining it to them and telling them you have the rifle in your vehicle. I can't see how they could rationalize refusing to let you do that.

  • Just in case anyone on here doesn't know, NEVER, EVER stone or file a Savage trigger! Extremely dangerous, I'm not going into detail here, there's already volumes of info on the internet about it,just dont do it unless you want a gun that goes off when it's not supposed to.

  • Used gun, looks like a DIY trigger job gone bad, especially seeing the rifle will fire while moving the safety. I say get thetrigger replaced and move on with your life, it's not worth the stress trying to fight Cabela's. Rifle Basix makes a trigger for about 85.00 that will take care of that, Timney about 125.00, fix the gun & get back to killin them groundhogs. I myself am a former Cabelas victim (customer) they charged me 25.00 freight to ship a flashlight UPS ground

  • my buddy just bought a savage from the lehi store, his gone will not eject the emptys.I took the bolt out of the rifle, the bolt did not have the extractor hooks on it.

  • i finally figured my problem out, take the action out of the stock and tighten the trigger spring, mine did this for two weeks before my gunsmith fixed this. the spring is on the right side of the trigger group, its to lose and will let the sear go off early

  • I would take it to court. Shame on Cabela's.

  • never buy used guns,,,its that simple.

  • i hear a law suit in the future for that , they have to be held accountable

  • i would bring it back anyway, when they ask you at the door to inspect that its empty leave the bolt out of the rifle and dont tell them what’s wrong with it until your already in the store. get to the gun counter and chew there asses out. be sure to bring your camera and show them this vid. no one should be sold a defective product and not be able to exchange it!

  • damn i live in utah i guess i wont buy a gun at the lehi store

  • If you want to repair and keep the rifle, I'd suggest buying an aftermarket trigger. It will likely solve your problem and give you a nice light crisp trigger pull at the same time. Sharp Shooter Supply sells a couple different trigger groups to fit you firearm.

I hope you get it straitened out, Savage makes a great rifle. It's nice to know when they'll go bang and when they won't though, lol. Good Luck!

  • Your argument about the danger of this happening and somebody getting hurt pretty poor. It proved your lack of gun safety more so than a dangerous gun. For starters NEVER POINT A GUN AT ANYBODY, number 2, don't take your safety off until you are on target and ready to fire!

I'm not saying you did not get a faulty rifle and that it shouldn't be repaired. There is a very good chance that the last owner has done some "custom trigger work" on that rifle. Cabelas should at least give you a refund.

  • (3rd Post) Quit dealing with the store over the phone. Just bring in that gun, what are they going to do, walk you back out? Have them send in the gun for repair on their dime. Cabela's should buy it back, or send it in for repair. If not, contact Cabela's Corporate. They are so scared about not satisfying customers that store WILL DO ANYTHING FOR YOU! It is an "as is" sell, so everything else is on Savage. Savage is a good gun, some exceptions. Cabela's sucks, go elsewhere from now on.

  • (2nd Post) We had customers bring in loaded or stuck brass in the chamber to sell back or ship out for repair. Your store should as well. They should ship it to Savage for repair, and Savage OR Cabela's should compensate you for a gun if it is unrepairable. And you are dealing with Cabela's policy from the store to corporate about firearms, so good luck dealing with that crap, it sucks. The straps are a policy at Cabela's so no misfires happen with customers. Bring that gun back!

  • As a former Cabela's gun counter outfitter, I love this video and agree with you. 1st, I hate Cabela's. It was the worst job I've ever had. Now, my former store's Gun Library (used and antique guns) did not function check any firearms. There are no gunsmiths at Cabela's. Most used guns are sold with a "as is" policy that you should have signed (if not, no big deal, it happens). This is a SAVAGE and it is up to SAVAGE, not Cabela's to make it right. That being said, Cabela's should help.

  • terribly unsafe... they need someone to get killed before they can do anything about it? take a trip into cabellas and find who sold it to you, and show them the problem right there in the store, that'll get it fixed if you know what i mean.... not to make an inappropiate joke but its sad that savage arms are going downhill and cabellas needs someone to die before they can help. i will never shop there.

  • Regardless of whether they knew it was defective or not, this should be replaced, and this gun repaired or preferably destroyed. Can't help to think, from my experience, that even fixed it will never be safe.

  • Take a cabelas to court!

  • Its a savage....... enough said. Being a gunsmith myself, I will NOT even sell them. Ive had to inspect savage firearms for court cases. Its sad that they produce a ticking time bomb for the public to handle.

  • Wow, I can't believe that they sold this to you! This weapon is CLEARLY defective and HIGHLY dangerous.
