  • Done it without video but still is good thats there is some help.btw archos are morons with the way you have replace battery

  • i need you to fix my archos.. how much do u charge to replace a battery for me

  • Is this supposed to be helpful or just really dull? My battery is dead but looking at this there is no way I'm attempting to replace it!

  • Problem with these things is the batteries don't last very long. Couple yrs. Pretty expensive for something that only last that long. Be nice if they made them so we could change the batteries easily.

  • Thanks for sharing. May end up keeping it & get a new battery & install it myself. You can't get them from Archos so these are likely substitutes.

  • I have the 160GB 605 & needs a new battery. Can't even get it fixed. Dam Archos doesn't have any support for it and they have the nerve to charge for a Customer Support call. I love my Archos but will never buy from them again. Have extended warranty but since they can't repair it & don't carry Archos anymore. Stuck with FutureShop giving me something comparable but there is nothing comparable. Nothing else has a 160 gig hard drive.

  • Archos sucks big time. Having to dissassemble all the device and use a soldering iron to replace a battery is just... awsome!

    Great Design Archos ! Rofl

  • This video really isn't helpful at all.

  • can i get any old 160 gb laptop hdd drive and use it on my 30 gb archos 605 wifi?

  • Comment removed

  • I have an Archos 160Gb (is that the model you have here?). i purchased a battery of the same make as yours, and it's model # CS-AV605SL. Problem is, it doesn't fit. It's 1 cm too long in one directions and that ribbon connector attached after inserting the battery can't connect as it's still over the battery. If that IS a 160Gb unit, can you give me that battery's model # please?

  • can the harddrive in the archos be defragged using windows defrag? sometimes mine makes a weird noise ie., when it comes out of a sleep or after a pause? seems fine but just curious about the hdd fragmentation since archos has no utilities for anything.. or do they?

  • wow seems to be hard

  • I just replaced the battery on my Archos 605 30GB. (The new one off eBay was smaller than the original. Not sure if that's normal.) Anyway I can't get the unit to turn on anymore. Just got the charging light on when it's on the docking station. Anyone have the same problem and know how I could get it repaired?

    Cheers

  • you tried to put the old battery again? Sometimes these batteries come with a special circuit that only recognizes the circuit where he was.

  • @jhnby73

Got the same problem. It looks like battery problem as with the new battery it had 15 minutes of charge when i turned on. Once the new battery needed charging i put on base. Charge light on but not charging and what a poor design that you can't run from the mains. Did you have any joy? I'd like to at least access it to get all my files off.

  • Hi i have a 404 archos and just replaced the battery and the same thing happened to me ...i can't turn it on ... I was wondering did you sort your one out and if so how? thanks

  • you make it look easy you interested in doing mine if i purchased the battery or if you did and charge me a price to install

  • hi

is it possible to replace the hard drive 2?

  • Hi,

I don't know, it's a 1.8 inches IDE hdd. It was written "not suited for laptops" on it...

  • @peperks no the hardrives have a signature and can only be changed by archos (sry for bad english)

  • im sure there's a hack for that issue..

  • unless archos is bigger and badder than microsoft and every other software engineering corp.. I mean even the iPhone was hacked shortly after it hit shelves..

  • Yes...goto archos drive in google (YT won't let me post url) and it looks like a 2.5" drive not a 1.8" but I could be wrong. From my research, 320GB is the highest the Archos will take at idle.

  • @evilronin71

It is definatly a 2.5 inch IDE drive, not an SATA. The hard drive is easy to replace.

  • Thanks for the vid. Just got a replacement battery from China for £13.55 (inc. free postage) off ebay. The job of fitting is easy enough if a little fiddly - just be careful with the wires coming off the battery (don't let them touch).

Thanks for saving me a few quid.

  • Very detailed video there. You forgot one important part to record. "It working afterwards". I would be tempted to try it though with a used one off ebay.

    Peace...
