  • What an awesome little program, I wish mainstream games would start utilising procedural generation more in games.

  • That is so awesome.

  • imagine a game with every model having at least that many polygons. it would be more detailed than real life and trippy as hell.

  • @davetista

It's impossible to be more detailed than real life. There are intricate details that no human eye could see on a single leaf. Just sayin.

  • @ConXiFle oh yeah. what was i saying? i meant have much more detail than in the best of today's games and look like a movie.

  • @davetista Oh yeah. Of course. The technology that exists today is simply amazing. And every few months the previous milestones in gaming become obsolete as new ideas emerge. It's simply amazing.

  • @ConXiFle Actually every detail down to the cellular level and beyond can be recreated virtualy.. so actually it is possible... Just Sayin...

  • @partmemjustin

True. But what you're saying is that IF we actually do utilize that, we would be creating details that wouldn't actually exist in real life. Thus making it not MORE realistic, but just TOO realistic.

  • The end product reminds me of a Japanese painting.

  • Isn't it fractal because the dimensions of the outline depend on the size of the units used to measure it?

    Nice tree BTW!

  • wow, very cool! I have just embarked on making my first L-system generator today. It will be a LONG time before I'll get something like this! Great job, I will check out the link for sure

  • how to make it looks like 2d picture, could you explain what kind of software you were used in this tree. houdini? touchdesign, or max msp

  • Java... not everyone is a script kiddy.

  • I hate skiddies. =P Go hard coders! XD

  • Mathematically brilliant tree!

  • you dont get it, do you?

its just to show how to simulate natural stuff like trees with a computer

  • Why exactly is that a problem? The beauty of it is the finished product, not how it forms. And in fact, it can really form any way the developer wants it to.

  • if the developer can make it form any way he wants then he should make it form the right way i dont know excactly what program this is and how it works but so far youve told everyone that he purposly made it start on one side which isnt very smart

  • Could you post the rules of this system and the method of generating the leaves?

  • This video should get my "youtube coolness award"

  • That's seriously cool.

  • Best fractal tree I have ever seen? But in what way is it a fractal? As I see it, there is a set of images, that are being a little scaled and added, am I right?

Anyway, check out a little worse fractal tree animation made by me, on my site:

    broadsmile (dot) info

  • it's a fractal because it's a rule that repeats itself over multiple generations (the branches). There probably has been put in a random factor to make the tree not a symmetrical and unrealistic thing. I Like the tree.

  • how did you do it?

  • Congratulations.

  • L-Systems are nice :)

  • nice
