I noticed it has the classic "bubble" like the 747-100 and 200. Is the passenger version of this new model going to look the same, or will it have the stretched upper deck like the 300 and 400 has?
@derflori90 the A380 is not that good. The 747-8 is quieter, FAR more fuel efficent per passenger, and can land at the vast majority of airports, whereas the A380 cannot.
Also Airbus is having a nightmare selling the A380 and has lowered the cost greatly to get them sold. The passenger version of the 747-8 hasnt sold very well yet, but that is because boeing refuse to lower its price like airbus. Once its made there will be more buyers.
@derflori90 The A380 was copied from an american design! McDonnell Douglas MD-12 project from the early 1990's. They decided not to build it because of costs outweighing customer orders (similar to A380), and it was designed to takeoff and land at all major airports. Look it up if you don't believe me. MD-12!
@zeroturbulence isn't that all the industry's about, assessing risks and seizing opportunities!? first of all the md12 wasn't designed to be bigger than the 747, but just to offer similar capacity in a different construction approach (2 full decks). the a380 offers a far bigger cargo and passenger capacity than either the 747-8 or md12. airbus just calculated if there'd be demand for something like the a380 and if it could be commercially successful, while boeing just relies on gut-feelings
@derflori90 - The MD-12 wasn't going to be made just for a "different construction approach", it was literally the same thing that the A380 was made into, but Airbus actually went through with the development of the aircraft. Also, look at the number of A380's built compared to the 747's/

@enigma800 the passenger version will look more like the 400. The 747-8F doesnt have it extended as is unnessesary and would cost more.

I agree. Looking at current orders there won't be many airlines flying the passenger version anytime soon.

GEnx, Same Engines On The GE Powered 787.

Just adding a bit more information here...
It's a derivative version of the GEnx called GEnx-2B.
Slightly smaller to fit the needs of a 747.
