The prophesy of the carnage and battles resulting from the unlawful disposition of King Richard II made by the bishop is a very brilliant interpretation of the upcoming Wars of the Roses, about which Shakespeare wrote his famous York tetralogy; and when Richard abdicates he suddenly behaves like a king, when he contemplates his follies past and the treason of his former henchmen; it is strange: When Fortuna was gracious to him he was a lewd boy but in misery he turned royal inward and outward.
If I taught an acting class I'd make the students watch this scene. Derek Jacobi's acting ability blows me away.

How sad they cut the "gage throwing" sequence from this scene (or rather, it seems they decided to not include it in this production.
