Heavy metal is a very diverse style of music with many legitimately creative artists, and it is perfectly possible to enjoy both metal and stuff like Sonic Youth. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is a band which manages to blend metal with avant-garde very well.

It's not "unabridged". Tends to be an extended version, and sometimes songs from the live version get carried across, but not always. They might not have been able to fit it in. Taj Mahal's song(s) was(/were) quite long, if you remember :)

Upon further research (on Wikipedia) I can now make sense of what you're saying. There is a half-hour live show on Tuesday and then a hour-long taped show on Friday. So I guess this performance aired on Tuesday but not Friday. Which means that the longer episodes billed as "unabridged" are actually NOT.

Really? I thought The Eternal was a huge step up for Kim. She's actually kind of the "lead singer" on this album and does a good job IMO. I would say Thurston's performances are a bit weaker than his average though. Lee's great on this song but Walkin Blue isn't nearly as great.
