  • For me, tapping my foot helps "burn away" my shin splint

  • All I hear is fatties running = shin splints.

  • Trolls! Go BACK under your bridges!

  • has anyone got rid of shin splints ever or its a injury for life time????

  • i have shin splints for 3 months and when ever i rest the pain vanishes but as soon as start playing agin it comes back 3rd 4th day. i am using arches and ice but havent done any exercises yet !! havent even used tape... if they recover by resting then they wont be serious would they?? what hould i do i have to get fit to play. the pain was almost gone week ago and i started playing again now it is veryy less again... any suggestions plz??

  • y'all are trashing him cause yall want to happen instantly it take's time to heal shin splints i should know i run 10 mile's for my school so guy's trust me this guy is right just do what he say's

  • This is stupid this did not teach me at all how to cure them, where am I suppose to ice? I have been playing soccer reguarly for about 3 months now and I still have shin splints, so I fucking suck everyday,.

    fml

  • @LimesPokemon You're supposed to rest and ice where it hurts...

  • Very good video ! Thank you !

  • i have the from skating

  • shin splints hurts a lot but i get it when i dont even do anything... :/

  • whats the ice cup massage?

  • I stopped watching this as soon as he said if you haven't run in a while or are over weight, and they got bloated, because he obviously doesn't know what he is talking about many times shin splints are due to your muscles growing fastly and your calf just getting big and the layer around your muscle rips. It annoys me that he knows so little as an expert.

  • @luvfritz2009 Uhh you're definitely wrong about that one. All the people I know (including myself) that have ever had shin splints get them because they haven't run in a while.

  • @TheCurlyhairgirl well no im not wrong cuz actually i run a lot and i got them it can be from ur muscles growing too quickly possibly started running harder

  • @luvfritz2009 It is possible to get them if not running for extended periods of time. I had really bad shin splints training for the Army due to Fallen Arches. using propper running shoes and a grass field over a few months I strengthened the legs to run on anything painlessly. Then I joined the gym. 4 months later got back into Frequent running, and BAM. Thus why im re-researching other ways to get rid of them before my enlistment.

  • @0Berzerker0 Yeah I know it IS possible, but those are'nt the only ways, mine luckily are finally gone, haha after limp jogging in all of my soccer practices and coming in last in our miles, it feels really good when they are better to run as fast as you can and come in first! I do think my above comment was wrongish lol! I have learned a lot more about shin splints so yeah I feel stupid!

  • @luvfritz2009 Dont sweat it man. Yeah I know what you mean, I loved that feeling of being able to sprint whenever I needed or wanted to and just go miles ahead of everyone else. I loved the fact I was the round kid in school but can out run any of my fitter mates and out lift now. Im happy to hear you fixed yours, and i hope they dont come back, knowing how much it sucks. Dont make my mistake and let the arch muscles waste away :O Retraining = Balls

  • @0Berzerker0 girl :)

  • @luvfritz2009 Probably should have picked up on that. My bad =)

  • @0Berzerker0 ya its ok loL!

  • lol. The guy he's touching looks old enough to be touched. Not exactly paedophilia. Shin splints. I suffer from them; can't seem to get round them. Three days on the treadmill for 20 minutes each time and I'm in pain. Not good.

  • I don't see what he's done that warrants everyone calling him a pedo? Are doctors paedophiles because Im pretty sure they would have touched people of all ages on there legs, and pretty much everywhere else.

  • The information was helpful. I just finished 7.4 mile speed walk/job this morning and my fat butt is out of shape. Gonna stretch, ice after run and use Sunbreeze from SunRider company to combat the pain. Its good for moving blood.

  • i couldnt walk for two weeks because of shin splints

  • How is this gay or creepy? How is he getting dislikes? Wow, people you need really need to get out some more.

  • 8 people still have shin splints

  • thats what my dance boots do lift the arch of the foot so u dont get it dancing :D

  • Dont get a godamn orthotic, most injuries are caused by these godforsaken multihundred dollar shoes designed to support an elephant. We didnt evolve to run with this shit.

  • I have a doubt.

How does a custom orthotic lift my arch if I have pes planus? I mean, won't the mold be flat too...?

  • @vaper1986 how many people have you murdered?

  • i have this for almost 1,5 year. the surgeon told me it is chronical so there is nothing to do about it and i will carry it for the rest of my life.

you know the reason why i got this? the army gave me the wrong shoes to run with!

all because of the wrong shoes! now you see, shoes are important. now i can continue in the army and i have to search for a job that is not phyiscal.

    oh man, i hate life.

  • i'm a freerunner and i've had this for 2 months, didn't really know it, thought i had to work it off so i did more exercise to try and loosen it up, i decided to really work myself to the limit today and if i sit down for about 30 minutes i can't walk afterwards, any really good cures?

  • @markwoodland1 same i do pk/fr and get it really painfull after a long session i went out a couple of weeks ago on a friday for 4 hours and after that couldnt walk with out my shins hurting until tuesday

  • @sketchymonster oh, i managed to get rid of mine, i rested for ages, probably because i had a neck injury for 2 weeks XD , a little while after i posted my comment, use ibuprofen gel along both shins and leave it, don't walk on them for a while and rest them for a couple of weeks, use ibuprofen gel every say 3 days, you shin problem should go

  • I have shin splints and nothing i seem to do helps them. I ice them in a whirlpool every day, strectch them, and try to take it easy on them but they hurt so bad!

  • @cokezeroisfortheweak u need to strenght them

  • Don't take anti inflammatory drugs, as they stops the healing process.

  • im shitting

  • i got a custom orthotic but when i was breaking them in i had a bone spur in my heel.

  • Thanks for the help

  • THANK YOU SIR, helpful. its nice when ppl take the time to spread some knowledge since many doc's dont give you the time to explain the problem.

  • i got shin splints from irish dancing on bad floors for 2 weeks at a dance camp. it could never completely heal b/c i have dancing every week. but during the summer i'm deff. taking it easy so it's better when i start up again. i have noticed that running makes it act up the most, more than dancing.

  • @IrishDance95 I run cross country and i have shin splints in both legs. The reason they have not gone away is because my coach KEEPS PUSHING....EVERYDAY. Ive heard its good to stay off your feet as much as possible, Like thats gonna happen!!!!

  • remi777692 My shin splint are no longer a problem. I iced them up with iced gel packs and the pain was gone in a couple days. And I also took it easy for a week before I went back to my exercise program.

  • @2102ofSpirit nice

  • I got shin splints for the first time this week and this video really helped me work them out. Thanks for posting the clip!!!

  • @2102ofSpirit did you got rid of it? ... I think I have it too I jump alot with basketball and a workout program I use and at first it hurt just a bit so I didn't mind about it but now it really hurts and I just can't ignore it anymore

  • none of these doctors have ever run more than 30 miles a week. No offence. Good form solves all running pain (99% of hte time)

  • @xxxDAPROBLEMxxx but you can also get shin splints from beating on your shins from things like hurdles, which is how i got mine. I have perfectly fine form.

  • I hate shin splints...i do dance and running and they get just horrible

  • lots of homophobic comments on this video. this is the first video i've found where they actually show where my shin splints are (on the inside) almost all the other vids show it on the outer part.

  • I have a really big calves for a guy my size 5'5, it looks like if I were 6'5. do you know why I have a big calves like that? is there anything that I can do to reduce the size. thanks

  • @philcanatsey Same here.

  • @philcanatsey it's genetic man i'm about the same height and have huge legs all round, there isn't much you can do to get rid, you could try calve workouts like going from prone to standing on your tip toes, this won't make them smaller but it can "stream line" them per say

  • @philcanatsey Hmmm...I'd kill to be in that situation :)

Anyhow did you try doing calf raises? The size of a muscle is dependent on two factors: (a) the number of muscle fibres, and (b) the size of those fibres. Doing large number (150-200 without a break) of low weight calf raises would reduce the number of muscle fibres while making your calves shapely. Do make sure you lift using the calves and not jump up on your raises. This is done by mentally focusing on the calf muscle during the raise

  • @Shahidnabibullah What? doing high reps of any exercise does not and can not reduce the number of muscle fibers in any given muscle. You are either training the type 1 or type 2 muscle fibers depending on the kind of exercise or sport you are in. You can only increase the size of the fibers and not the amount. Endurance training favors the type 1 fiber and strength training favors type 2 fibers. And unless you have some kind of muscle dystrophy disease you won't lose any muscle tissue.

  • @dovaje It's good to be shown wrong...do you know of a peer reviewed (academic paper/journal) reference for that information please? ....thanks!

  • @Shahidnabibullah you can just open up any physiology and/or anatomy book that is used in medical schools. We used Guyton and Hall, but I'm sure that there are others.

  • @Shahidnabibullah: The number of muscle fibers is genetic nothing will reduce it's number. It's the size that will diminish since you'll be using type 1 muscle (slow twitch = endurance look at the legs of a marathoner) instead of type 2 muscle (fast twitch = Power look at the legs of a sprinter)

  • what if your pain is on the outer part of your tibia, not the inside as you describe?

what can be done for this pain that never goes away?

  • @hiyaveah me too! Did you get an answer for this?

  • Great advice... Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this video. I found it extremely helpful. Thanks also for breaking everything down so that I can actually understand it!!

  • I will try those tips, I got a shin splint in my left calf today after running and it's sooo painful! Thanks for the tips!

  • I've been suffering with shin splints for about 18months now. I use to run very tight, but my relaxing my upper body when running, e.g dont clench my fists anymore, my shins are much better

  • I must have a fracture or something. MOnths ago I increased my running mileage and for the second time within 6 months I have "shin splints"and the pain won't stop in my left leg!

  • You people that are calling him creepy or gay are IDIOTS why did you even search this if your gonna trash him.

  • because i wanted to find a remedy for my shin splints. Then i clicked on the video, and realized he was gay. im just messin around I found the info in this vid useful, and didnt really get the vibe that this dude was much of a fudgepacker

  • @BKAmsterdam You enable pedo's

  • pretty sure he knows what he's doing though..

  • I'm pretty sure that doctor is gay

  • @planB091 I'm pretty sure you're a dipshit.

  • needles getting stuck in me to get rid of pain hell no

  • They're not that bad actually. If they are, then it would be illegal in this country.

  • @travdogger it got my problem worst for me :S

  • Comment removed

  • lol you're dumb

  • i mean both side lol

  • got rid of them yet?

  • Shin splints is easy to get rid off with deep tissu massage therapy. Unfortunatly, real deep tissu massage is often confused with all kinds of relaxation massages. That is why the word does not spread.

  • Ive been having shin splints from football for the last few months now, it hasnt gotten any better, should i seek medical attention?

  • Ok.. so I recently started running again after not doing so for 12 years, plus I am overweight. I'm pretty sure I have shin splints.. it's so painful its hard to walk and I've had the pain for days now. I just came in from another run that I was barely able to make it through.. what the heck can I do?

  • Comment removed

  • I had similar problems and really found that if you lay on your bed or on the floor with your legs locked out straight and pull your toes towards yourself and hold it non stop for 5 mins really sorts it out. do it every day or almost every day. also heel striking can cause shin splints so you should try and improve your running technique and land softer. shortening stride length and landing more on the mid or forefoot for example could help.

  • How old or worn out are you shoes. Often one cause of Shin Splints is running in shoes that are past their useful life. The shoes just won't provide you with the protection you need. An easy way to monitor shoe wear is with a shoe odometer.

  • THANK YOU

  • are u boxed in the right eye?..

  • shin splits is really hard to get rid of ones you have it. You could try and massage it(make sure you get in deep), it'll most likely help. But when you start running again it will come back. There is an operation, but i've never heard of it being perfomed outside of Norway. Ultrasound treatment is most likely your best bet.

  • I have had shin splints for 2 years and have just been referred for physiotherapy and given Powergel to rub on 3x daily. My shin splints are really quite excrutiating, I can't walk for more than 5 minutes, But whats really weird is that when I walk my dog, or walk with someone and talk I don't get them, but if I'm alone or walking to get somewhere specific then I get the pain. Do you know why this happens?

  • This is because u think about your shins all the time, try not to worry about your shins so much. Icing also helps and try to see a physio and ask him if special insoles who lifts up you foot's arch help, good luck i know how shin splints are annoying but is insoles help than they will go for me it helped alot but because i train everyday it's not as effective as it could be.

  • maybe when your walking with someone your walking at a slower pace than when on your own...

  • @ceniboy It is probably because you are not concentrated to it if you are concentrated to something in particular then I gess you forget about the pain it's like if I would cut one of your finger then it would really hurts but if I cut your legs after cuting your finger then you would probalby feel the pain more towards the leg then the finger because something esle is being interupted while the pain is going on ... anyway this is what I think, it might not be that also

  • the first time i had shin splints i was out for a couple o months, (from sport) it was so painful. i got rid of it and now it's back but my doctor has recommended me to a physio. Can anyone actually help?

  • I have horrible shin splints.. And i still run with it! I stopped running with shin splints, cuz it slowed me down

  • shut up gieco and let me heal my pain.

  • i have it on my right shin, does anybody know how i can heal it when i run or anythign because i can't make the football or basketball team because of my shin

  • Yah, strech your toes as close to your shins as possible for 5min then take an ice bath and you'll be good for two days. So do this ever two days and eventually they will go away

  • Change your running form. Run on the balls of your feet.

  • that kid has osgood or whatever its called.

    i have that. pain!

  • Im 14 Years old and have shin Splints. The Reason i got them is because of doing alot of parkour and free running. Which Ironicly involves Running and falling.

  • Uhh... i started cross country a few fridays a go and my shins already hurt... pain all the time.. do i need splints???? help mmeeeeee

  • u dont need splints. u have shin splints. its not something that you put on. its the condition its self.

  • uhh i have shin splints and cross country try outs are this friday. i need help fast!!!!

    plzz anyone?

  • Im currently applying for the Royal Marines in the UK and i have them. I have to be able to run 3 miles/4.8km in around 20 mins. I cant go and practice though because of my shins.

  • i have to do 3 miles in like 20 minutes too dude, i also have these things. it sucks

  • I've had shin splints for 20 years. I tried stretching, icing, orthoics, wraps, nothing works. I get them WHILE I run, not just after I run. It really has held me back from lots of things over the years (sports, jobs, military, weight loss)...

  • ice therapy has been working fine for me so far, I also get them while I'm running (10 min. aprox).

  • i have it in both of my legs right now, and its so bad i can barely walk, i have to use a cain to get around, cause its just so bad...

  • dude,im here for the same thing.ive been skimming every day and after about 30 minutes my lower legs are killing me...its so annoying.i wanna skim so bad but it hurts.

  • yeah I think I got one from football because I was doing a lot I had to do more laps than anyone else and now I have a bad one and when I walk it hurts so I have no clue how I can still go to football cuz I cant do push up,down ups, strech and I can hardly walk so I ovioly cant jog or run shin splints suck ass

  • i have a bad shin splint in my right leg. I have had it for months and doesnt seem to go away. I got it from skateboarding with my pushing leg. It hurts so bad i can hardly skate anymore.

  • I skim board a lot, so i wear no shoes and i get horrible shin splints after like 3 runs, what do i do ? ice my shins or some type of exercises ?

  • im 230lb and 6,4, i think my shin splnts is just because iv put on weight from going to the gym, but its not fat its all muscle, and iv just started running 30 min on the tredmill to lose sum fat so the muscle has more definition, think i shud stick to a cross trainer or a bike

  • that's not completely accurate...it's not cause by running, more than a muscle imbalance in the lower leg, right?

    creepy video

  • get a fukin grip

  • my shin splint only hurts during running and throbs after running. it wont hurt unless i run on it? do i have a shin splint or is it something else?

  • i thought i had just had bad shin splints for the last 8 months while training for and playing lacrosse found out 2 days ago that my i have bad stress fractures in both legs and have to were double boots for 4 to 6 weeks

  • i got mine from running on concrete sidewalks and switching from grass to concrete to gravel. also i dont have the greatest running shoes. but i bought some ace shin wraps and if i put those on and take a couple tylenol the discomfort is severely cut down

  • Hey, I think it's true, cuz I'm flat-footed and got shin splints. My doctor said that those who are flat-footed could get it faster than others. But there are also a lot of reasons people can get it too. Maybe u know already. For example: wrong shoes, over training, don't stretching the legs and much more..

  • Yes, it is true. I have shin splints, and my podiatrist found out that I am over-pronated, aka my feet are too flat, and that can be a huge cause of shin splints. Go to a podiatrist and they will probably give you orthotics--a fancy word for hard, not very comfortable shoe inserts--and they can really help, but you have to gradually wear them in because they are not like the soft arch support inserts. Hope you can get rid of your shin splints!

P.S.- He explains why this is from 0:50-1:20. :)

  • I FUCKIN HATE HAVING SHIN SPLINTS...I feel as if im paralyzed, sometimes i cant walk..

i play basketball and you can see how that is a problem if i cant walk, that eliminates jumping, running, slides etc. ALL THAT IS NEEDED FOR BASKETBALL !IM FUCKING SCRWED

  • I know, it really sucks.

I had that problem too, had to stop training. Then started to cycling and swimming.

If u cant walk sometimes, that's gonna take a long time to heal again naturally. But u can have a radiation treatment. I just heard that it can help u faster than other ways. I haven't tried it.

  • @yc3po same thing dude but it only hurts when I run and jump did it go away now for you?

  • That kid was too shy LOL.

  • damn, i wish i didnt have any problems with shin plints. i just want to train like a normal person -___-

  • poo. i got mine training for a half marathon. 4 days before the race i couldn't walk, but at least it's not my bone!!!

  • okay so is the front of your ankle hurting the same thing as shin splints? cause someone told me i had shin splints, but i'm not sure.

i got it from running on this shitty feild at my last soccer game. they're both fucked up now. :(

  • Should I run with shin splints? I have inserts like in the video, i never treat it tho, that's y im not getting any better but even if I iced it daily should I run with them, they are getting very serious now but Im in season

  • i got it from running short distances on a crappy dirt track.

  • I got mine from sprinting with the wrong shoes

  • same, i got it two weeks ago D:

  • you should stop talking like a ghetto fuck

  • wtf r talking about? im used to abbreviating, im no ghetto fuck, stfu

  • picking cotton helps alleviate shin splints.

  • SHIN SPLINT SUX. i have a fencing competition in a month and i had to get shin splint. zzz

  • yeah ive never heard of or had pain on the actual bone. I feel the pain the the meaty part on the outside.

  • i just started playing rugby and don't want to stop because of shin splints! sad... i made an appointment with my doc to see if he can hook me up with a physical therapist or podiatrist

  • you know what sux? i have flat feet so my shins are screwed cause arches rly hurt my feet...

  • i have flat feet too but what you should do is get really good arch supports very sturdy quite high almost uncomfortable... don't worry you'll get used to them. I do track and i need to get a pair myself

  • oh really? thanks i might get them considering i need new cleats haha

what kind of arch supports do you get?

  • Posterior means outside of the shin not inside. Anyway that's where I get them.

  • uhh posterior actually means behind as opposed to anterior(front)... inner would mean inside(inner fascia)

or when somebody says deep as in "deep to the skin" below the skin

  • I don't know what's going on, but I didn't post the previous comment about arch supports. Someone else seems to be using my name.

  • im in the police academy and after the 5 mile run i cant hardly walk...

  • you might try a really good arch support

  • thanks i'll try that

  • i play soccer and it hurts like a bitch

  • Yeh same ive had to stop for a bit i feel like a cripple

  • i had no idea how many people had shin splints! i ran track last year and had to quit because my shin splints got so bad. now i'm running cross country. they're getting worse and i don't know what to do!

  • man....its hurts -_-. its ok all these people also have shin slpints......SIGH

  • God i'm glad i looked this up...maybe mine will go away if i follow his directions

  • I wish I knew this stuff in High School. Shin splints ruined any chance I might've had continue with track. Blah...

  • ah! sorry that you had to end your career...but maybe it worked out fine for you anyways

  • thanks i'll try that
