So sidewinders live in Sounthwest Africa too. The sidewinder we have in South western U.S. is a rattle snake. I suspect this African version is a Pit Viper as well, judging by the head. they are pretty cool, I'll know to watch out for them if I ever travel to this desert. This guy looks as fast as the U.S. version, they are quick.

Um... not a rattlesnake and not a gecko. That snake is probably a Desert Adder, Bitis peringueyi. They are really cute little vipers. The lizard it was chasing is a skink. A Sandfish, Scincus scincus. They use their webbed feet to swim through the sand. Had to watch this several times to be sure.
