I am a lover of art myself, and am very familiar with who Mark Ryden is, and I am also a big fan of his. I however do not see the similarities in his work and in Kukula's, so therefore I do not see what the bickering is all about. Ryden has had various themes in his collections, from vegetarianism to religion even political, Kukula's art to me, has a constant sense of sadness and heartbreak, without much of a drastic change in theme as Ryden's, so, in essence, it's like comparing an apple to an
when is everyone going to realise that artists are not trying to 'say' anything, they are just creating art....assuming that they are trying to make a statement, or express this, or that, is just bullshit that keeps rich idiots suitably amused....much to the amusement of the actual artists!!!!!!
her art is wonderful. It does kind of remind me of Mark Ryden, but it's because of the doll-like figures, other than that it stands on it's own 2 feet.
In regards to Wiilover4eva's comment... Its a question. How can you people answer a question with a thumbs down??? Because you dont have an interesting answer? or because it makes you uncomfortable and you dont want to speak on it? please dont answer with an ad naseaum trigger response... I challenge someone to share their veiws.....
I am happy for you that life is that simple. You must have it all figured out. However your reply was desperately uninteresting to me. I thought i would have weeded out people like you when i said please no trigger responses. People "tumbed" down my response because they couldnt find anything interesting to say. This artwork is like a copycat of Mark Ryden without the substance. There is no message and therefor becomes superficial empty eye candy, which says something about you. not me. Thanks
I agree with you, her artwork is like Ryden's without the spark, never the less beautiful.
But "life" is that simple? That short reply gave you an insight to my life? I have it figured out because I presume the artist wanted her figures to be naked?
Of course she wanted them naked, idiot. Naturally there is more to it than than, but just calm, I was not trying to make an interesting comment for you to enjoy.
look, your first comment to me was antagonistic and immature. that is what my problem is. maybe i should be more straight forward with you. i was using sarcasm when i said it was that simple. i am totally bored now, you are correct when you said you didnt comment for me to? CANT YOU JUST SPEAK ON THE ART?
@meghanscotti I disagree. See my answer to 'willow4eva'. I think the 'lack of substance' provides the message. Which gives you the substance. If that makes sense to you.
@wiilover4eva Ok, I'm just guessing here, but my impression from her artwork is that she is commenting on female body image. This would explain the nudity and also why all the figures look like fairly uninteresting 'people'. Like the artist is saying "yes, they're nice to look at, almost beautiful, but completely two dimensional". These pictures to me are almost deliberately uninteresting. (But I do like them!)

@clsacose are you stupid... they don't have to be the same to see the similarities... this looks a lot like Rydens work.

How nice Kukula's art!
Does Kukula mean anything in any language?
In Costa Rica Kukula is the name of the animal known as sloth.
Cheers from La Kukula Lodge!

xD Makes me laugh that people tumbed down your reply.
They disagree with his/her attitude so tumbed it down, I presume. They are naked because that's how she wanted to paint them. Simple as really..
